My Christmas tree is going to be artificial like it has been for the last three years. It's cheaper and I've also got two cats which would probably wreck the tree or tip it over anyway. My other cats have tipped trees over in the past.

Real, we've had real forever.... I love going to this one place to get it. There's these alreayd cut ones [which we buy] and a field of ones you needa cut... then there's a barn with chickens and horses and sheep and you get to pet the sheep and have hot cider.... it's fun. We always go around the 2nd week in December. Then when we come home, we make ornaments :D Then a few days later we put them on the tree.

Ditto to all of that. I have 5 cats and they love snacking on the real trees. Of course that would make them sick, but they always did it. Finally we decided to buy the artificial trees.

It's fake! (My dad wanted a real one, but I talked him out of it...lol.) Right now, it's got garland on one of the branches (with the cardboard still on it) and a two box of red and purple ornaments next to it (i was supposed to help decorate two weeks ago, but i haven't had time, so i've forbidden them to decorate without me). We need to go buy more colorful ornaments. AND BIGGER ONES TOO! My dad bought these wimpy mini-ones. And our tree is big too. (Word to the wise, when you move, put ALL of your christmas decorations in one box, that way, you won't lose them.)

It will be fake if I can motivate myself to even put it up.

I tried to use the excuse that I didn't have ornaments/lights/hooks and my best friend went and bought me ornaments at Old Navy and white lights.

Now I dont have that excuse. Other than not wanting to bother I have no excuse.

So I think sunday we are putting up the tree.

We have a real tree(about 7 feet tall) in our computer room(just behind where I am sitting now), it is decorated with all clear lights and my mom's ornaments. I have a ceramic tree. It's about 3 ft tall...iridescent pearl with beautiful detail....colored lights at the branch tips. It's imported from Italy.
I put it on a tall box covered with a tree skirt and put that icicle looking grass stuff underneath it. All around it are the gifts, wrapped in silver or gold foil paper and gift bags with angels on them. On each side are animated Mr. and Mrs. Claus holding moving lighted candles.
I put crystal and ceramic angels on top and around the gifts.
The look is elegant and striking.

We have like a 10 ft. artificial tree in our family room (Oy, I'm in the middle of putting on the *2,000 lights for it). We usually have two trees, and since our other artificial tree splattered all over the freeway last year while on its way back to storage (thanks dad), we have decided to get a real tree for tree #2 that goes in the living room.

I prefer artificial because there is no risk of drying out (we keep it up for a month). But, hey... this year I get both. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/attachment.php?s=&postid=2226562

Owned it for years and I wouldnt want it any other way. In ways, it's almost like a tradition here too. I've spend so many Christmases around that thing I wouldnt want to give it up, anyways. It actually looks better today than it did in 1998.

Same here, I love our tree.

Ditto. I remember when we would go to my uncle's house for Christmas dinner. Their neighbor across the street would throw their tree out on the curb by 3 p.m. that day. It even had all of the lights on the tree!

I have a beautiful pearlized white ceramic lighted tree. It's about 2 1/2 feet tall. I place it on a stand with animated Mr. and Mrs. Claus dolls on each side of it. It looks great.

Artificial. We had a real tree last year in our living room, but it was very messy and a hassle. We have 4 fake trees this year. Mine's about 5 1/2 feet tall with lots of colored lights, ornanments, and a beautiful star with lights to top it off.

REAL tree! I love them! But unfortunately for like the past 3 years we've had to have a fake tree because of my cat! We got a real tree the first year we had her and that was a big mistake! she drank the tree water ALL the time and would climb up the tree. she got REALLY sick afterwards, so then the years after that we got a fake tree. I hate fake trees, but I'd rather see my kitty be alive and OK!

No big deal.... it's not like they are random trees being cut down.

It's like with meat, the animals (or in this case, trees), were made from the start for the intention of being food (in this case, Christmas trees).

I'm definately not an environmentalist, but I think wasting all the materials used on an artificial tree is more harmful than cutting down real trees.

At least the real trees can be decomposed.

My aunt replants hers, and it grows just fine

I don't why people can't chop them up and use them for mulch or whatever.

It really is a waste to throw them out to the curb, to me that's like killing a deer, then just taking the antlers and throwing the rest of the deer in the trash or something, to me if you aren't gonna eat it, then don't kill it :grr: Same with a tree if you're gonna waste it then why have one?

But that's the point.
It doesn't go to waste.
No typical person can chop up a tree and make mulch of it.... that's why they put it to the curb -- the city picks it up and makes mulch out of it.

And it's not like killing a deer.
Deer aren't manufactured liked trees are -- for the sole purpose of Christmas.

It's more along the lines of a.... napkin.
If you're going to waste the napkin, by making it dirty, then why have one??

Some cats are easier than others. Nothing stops my cat. She climbs it, swats at the ornaments, she'll do anything she can to get that tree down. We weren't going to put one up either, no one cares about it except my sister. I'd rather not put one up this year than have the whole thing fall down and lose all of our precious ornaments.

Anyway, to answer the question, I do have an artificial tree. I'd much rather have a real one, but I don't want to fork over the $70 a year, have to worry about watering it every day, vacuuming up pine needles; etc.

But really, the artificial tree doesn't look phony at all. In fact, most of the ones I've seen don't.

Growing up, my family always had a real tree...I could never imagine having a fake one. But when we moved into my new house when I was 15 we got a fake one, partially because my mom has always wanted a huge tree and we now had room for a 12 foot one and it was just easier to get a fake one instead of a real one.

Always had real, but started using a fake one in 2003.

This fake tree is from 1989 and it looks real, it's perfect(simple assembly too).

I don't have to deal with needles everywhere, putting up the tree (centering, cutting branches, getting fullest side facing front), watering it, watching the cat attack it, taking it down and then saddest of all: see it lying on the curb waiting to be picked up like garbage.

I like real trees a whole lot (really miss the scent), and I assume one day I will go back to real, but not yet.
