ELEANOR

LOL my mom and I went to Seaside to go to the Christmas Parade, and we got there earlier, and this lady was walking her dog and when they were going somewhere else I guess she goes "Come on , Eleanor"
:rotflmao: WHO NAMES THEIR DOG THAT? That's my GRANDMA'S name, not a dog. It was just weird its like naming your dog Fred or Steve

It's different, for sure. It seems to be the thing these days. My sister-in-law has two Jack Russell terriers, Emma and Molly.

On the radio the other day, the deejay purchased a puppy and asked the audience to call in with name suggestions. Some stupid woman called in and said "Bertha"... The deejay said that was one of the stupidest names to call a pet! He said he'd rather name his dog "My Penis" than Bertha.

The name really depends on the breed and looks of the dog. Naming a french poodle Bertha would seem odd. Naming a big heavy bulldog Bertha would not.

In general though, Bertha is, to me, not a pretty name. It would surely not come to mind as a first or second choice. Even for a bulldog or St. Bernard.

But calling a dog "My P**is" is truly off the charts, unless the dog is connected to an X-rated place, I suppose

I like Eleanor - you could call her Elly May or Miss Ellie for short.

I kinda like it! Course, I've also named a cat "Norman" (for Stormin' Norman Schwartzkoff). lol

I also have a friend who has a cat named "Angus" and thought that was cute. I laughed when another friend was considering naming his dog "Steve".

Hey, whatever turns you on I guess!

IMO, Eleanor is not an odd name, per se, for a pet. However, if a particular name has a personal connotation that attracts or repels us to it, trust your instinct.

I read somewhere (it was either Parade or USA Weekend, one of those magazine inserts that comes in the Sunday newspaper) that the tendency
today is to give dogs "human" names rather than names like Rover, Fido or
Spot because most people regard their dog as a member of the family. I named my miniature Dachshund "Heidi" because it's German and the breed originated there. But "Eleanor" does sound a bit stuffy; me, I'd shorten
it to Elly.

OH Nuts!

Yes, I think that's why this happens too. Very good insight and thx for putting it forward.

The lady across the street has a dog named Mabel and a dog named Chester. They're both little small dogs. She calls Chester "Chessie." I don't think I would have named a dog Mabel but it seems to fit those dogs. Those dogs even look like a Chester and a Mabel. Explain that one.
