I have to pick the audience at Good Times...I really don't understand what the hooting, loud back comments to characters, and catcalls was all about... I practically didn't get some of the jokes and their comments "Yeah, girlfriend..." in agreements with one of the characters or something. I was always like..."Okay..."

Which did you find on certain shows that the audience seemed to the most obnoxious ever?

"Married With Children", no contest. You talk about loud cheering, hooting and hollering and obnoxious catcalls galore. It was like a big frat party.

Amen to that!!!! That was overboard and it seemed like only a bunch of h*rny, young, stupid high school guys were in that audience. If they showed two dogs "doing it" you bet your bottom dollar, that damn audience would be hootin' and hollerin' and cheering.

sitcoms-wise it has to be married with children, with non-sitcom shows, definitely jerry springer. the crowd can be very obnoxious, intimidating and whooping and yelling depending on the types of guests that are on the show

i've always liked that show but sometimes yes it did get silly at times and rather immature. particuarly in episodes where there would be al bundy and there would be some big chested chick wearing very little on next to him

It was obviously geared towards men and so it is understandable that men, guys, young guys would be in the audience. It was just a turn-off to hear that garbage coming from the audience. I think if it was turn-down a lot, it would have been more enjoyable to watch.

The next audience I found annoying was HAPPY DAYS after the appearance of Chachi and when he got older. It was annoying to see Fonzie or anyone else for that matter, having to wait to say their lines because the audience wasn't done screaming and applauding.

the women characters on married with children were either no brained air-heads, feminist male-bashers, or bikini clad whores

Actually I enjoyed the reactions of the audience. I react with them as well.

by far; the 2 worst ones are the audience on "HAPPY DAYS" and the one on "MARRIED WITH CHILDREN".

I like audience participation to a point. When the actors start pausing for 20 seconds before they can say their next line, though, that's a problem.

I agree. That is just a waste of time, not to mention making the whole thing not look spontaneous when an actor has to pause or they start to say something, stop, then repeat the few words they started to say.

I am not really bothered by the Good Times audience, the only time they annoyed me was when they laughed at what was serious moments. An occasional "right on" got to me too.

That's part of my enjoyment of "Good Times" lol. It makes me feel like I'm right there in 1975, watching with a group of people and hearing their reactions. That's quintessential 70s slang, you're hearing there, and it's unscripted lol It just means that the audience was in to the show, enjoying it for what it was.

I guess it is just me. I thought when the Good Times audience laugh at some serious moments, I thought they were not funny at all.

About the Married With Children audience...I remember when some guy always says, "Yeah, Al.." I was like...wow, who was this person? I noticed in the earlier Married With Children episodes...the audience wasn't mean to begin with...it is just as the seasons progressed, you could tell the popularity sky-rocketed to the point of no return.

That is how I feel. I watched GT since its debut on CBS and ever since then, the audience's reaction (laughter) to some serious stuff just never made sense.

Happy Days - no contest. Why can't the people who make the DVDs take out the annoying and loud audience feedback??

Almost every popular 70's show it seemed like had an obnoxious audience. Good Times, Sanford and Son, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, Three's Company, All in the Family . . . they all had obnoxious audiences.

The only studio audiences that knew when to laugh and when to shut up seemed to be for all the MTM shows: Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Rhoda, WKRP...etc. They seemed to add something. If only more audiences could be like that...

I gotta say the 1st season of Boy Meets World, only because whenever Cory makes a Beavis and Butthead reference, the studio audience goes nuts.

Saved By The Bell...OMG, when my girls watched that show all I could hear coming from the tv was "Whoooooooooooooooooooo"...usually when two of the characters were kissing...

the audience in Happy Days got worse and worse as the series progressed. You knew things were bad when Anson Williams would even get a standing ovation.

For a more recent show, Friends was pretty bad as well

oh my god, the "HAPPY DAYS" audience was TERRIBLE! The way they'd applaud every time someone (mostly Fonzie, Potsie, Chaci, or Richie) would just walk into the room! Then they'd have to wait for the audience to quiet down before they could say anything. And all you'd hear was "WOOOOO"!!!!! whenever 2 people kissed or Fonzie threatened someone, or someone threatened Richie or Pottsie....!

shows like Happy Days and Friends are why I am glad a lot of comedy shows these days lack a laughing track and require the viewer to figure out what parts are funny or not. Could you just imagine something like South Park or Curb Your Enthusiasm would fare with a laugh track for every funny moment? Actually, SP did poke fun at laugh tracks on the Jackovasaur episode back in season 3.

I always thought it was ironic that only Potsie, Richie, Fonzie, and Chachi all got the audience crazy while the rest like Marion Ross and Tom Bosley all got respectful standing ovation...I thought, the audience has age-ism with the middle age folks. You notice when they clapped their hands for the older characters, it usually does not last long at all. The only thing that goes over the top is Chachi, Richie, Fonzie, and Potsie.

Dean Winchester

actually, Marion started getting standing ovations later on. Hell, I remember seeing an episode where freaking Cathy Silvers even got a standing ovation when she came onscreen, it was seriously like "wtf!!!", have these people never seen a taping of a show before? LOL

Hey,Anson Williams rules

But yeah I agree, whenever Fonzie came on the screen or Chachi or Richie like people said it was like the freakin' POPE just walked in.

those teen sitcoms- saved by the bell, california dreams, hang time etc- were the worst for that. it was so embarassing i'd switch it off

I forgot about that one. Yeah, that's pretty much all the audience was capable of doing. You'd here it every 5 minutes, and it gets annoying real fast.

"Whoooo"

"Ooooooh"

**screams at Slater and Zack**

Do the drinking and you get a free drink at the Rambling House.

This is why I like shows like my name is Earl and South Park because they don't use laugh tracks nor do they have audiences it's basically you get it or you don't. I do agree that Happy Days and MWC were the biggest offenders in this area. What really irked me was every time you had a tender moment the audience would erupt into the ever present AWE that was worse than WHOOO.
