OH Nuts!

There are so many reasons I love The Jeffersons. It's subtle yet funny. I love the way George likes to come across as an obnoxious little pr*ck but in reality has a heart as big as Louise's. The many supporting characters who add so much-esp. Mother Jefferson and Florence. It also raised our consciousness about many important social issues such as equality and giving back to others once you yoursefl have become affluent.

My apt. is cluttered and so I don't have an extensive collection of The J's like I do of I Love Lucy, Bewitched, AITF & The Adv. of O & H but I'm seriously rethinking this. On my list of best shows ever, The J's will probably make the top 10 someplace, and certainly top 15.

I am a fanatic of the show. I just love everyone for their different personalities. I prefer Mike Evans as Lionel though.

She was perhaps the least likable character. I thought the way she treated Louise was abominable. But I do not think she was the low pt of the show. You needed an unlikeable character to contrast w the other chars--who were, for the most part, engaging & likeable. And Mother J could be outrageously funny. Weezie, God bless her, had an amazing amt of tolerance. Somone else might have pushed the old bat off the roof! LOL

I have two seasons on DVD. I will slowly build that up soon.

I liked Mother Jefferson for her sass. But she really did treat Louise poorly. It would not have been funny had she really liked her and treated her well. There are waaaaay too many mothers out there who don't care for the woman who married their son, and Mother Jefferson felt like her son was so damn good, he could do better than Louise.

Yes Mother J was a sassy old battleax. The woman had spunk no doubt about it. Unfortunately, there are many mothers out there who don't care for their daughter-in-law or don't think they are good enough for their son. Louise however, was a lovely woman and wife and Mother J was just dreadful. A less nice daughter-in-law would have found a way to get Mother J out of the picture--or well faded into the woodwork. Louise was a sweet and tolerant lady--Florence called her a saint, which is not too far off.

Exactly! Louise was a great lady, with class, style and a lot of hard-work under her belt. She deserved everything George gave her simply because she stood by him and helped him to achieve his greatness in the business world. What made her stand out is she didn't really care for the fancy things, she would have been happy in a small home with simple living. She never even wanted a maid. Louise was great!:D She reminds me in some ways of my late mother.

I've watched the reruns here and there throughout my life but just recently have been watching the DVDs. I found 5 of the first 6 seasons in the library (the only one not there was Season 3) and checked them out. I'm right now on Disc 2 of Season 2. I just laughed out loud at episodes like "Mr. Piano Man" and "George's Best Friend". :brent They just don't make shows like this anymore!!

i wasn't born when it was debuted on TV but also it was because here in the uk they have never shown the jeffersons, ever.

i read a lot about the show on the internet and how people regard the jeffersons as one of the all-time great U.S. sitcoms ever. i then watched the episodes that were posted on you tube to see if i would like the show.

i loved it- the humour, characters, situations and it was well written and acted. it's up there with good times, which has recently become a favourite of mine- again thanks to you tube. so yes, the jeffersons alongside good times are 2 of my favourite sitcoms.

great show from norman lear. :)
