Therer were so many great supporting characters on AITF, but one of my favs is Irene Lorenzo. I love the way her and Frank's marriage is sort of a "role reversal" --at least according to the conventional sterotypes of it's day. I love how she's a whiz at fixing things and knows how to give Archie the richly deserved zap he always merits.

And I love the actress who played IL too.

Share your appreciation of either the character/actor.!

She was a strong, positive role model for Edith, too.

Yes, another great thing about the show; there are so many.

I wished her and her husband was featured more and stayed on longer. Atleast when the Jeffersons left in 1975, the Lorenzos could have stayed.

Interesting that when Irene Lorenzo was added to All In the Family there were more episodes where you saw Edith standing up to Archie more. I love the episode when Edith got on Archie about how he treated her when they first moved in the neighborhood. When she took that can of food from Archie and told him that she was still talking that was classic.

I'm probably in the minorority here, but I didn't like the Lorenzos that much. Frank was too exuberant, always singing and gesturing, and he acted like preparing a gourmet meal was something like an orgasm to him. Yuck. As for Irene, I realize she was largely there to zap Archie and encourage Edith, but 'Frankly' it's hard for me to like people who can dish it out but can't take it, and Irene was like that. If she insults Archie it's supposed to be funny; if Archie insults her she goes off almost in tears, and Archie is supposed to then get it from Edith, and he does, and then that's supposed to be funny. As for that incident where Archie was eating spaghetti from a can and Edith says "And I'm talking!", is it also funny when Archie yells at Edith to shut up and pay attention? It's easy to see why Archie didn't like Irene, and I've already said why I didn't.

Love the ep. where Archie and Irene are talking about bringing home supplies and equipment from work. Irene asks Archie if he knew what the sign in the bathrooms meant: Pilfers will be prosecuted. And Archie says: Sure, that means **** stay out of the bathrooms.

Too funny.

Archie was such a dope, and his stupidity was only magnified next to the wise Irene. She just ran circles around him no matter what.

I've always enjoyed when Irene has to hide her laugh when Archie says something funny. Would love to see a blooper reel with the flubbed scenes because of laughing.
