Chapter 1

Blair couldn’t believe it, two men had proposed to her baby sister. Natalie Green may have had absolutely no biological tie to Blair, but during the nine years that they lived together it was her that Nat had always turned to. Blair and Jo were close, as were Natalie and Tootie; yet it was Blair and Natalie that had that extra special connection. They’d gotten closer in later years; Jo moved away with her family, and Tootie had transformed into Dorothy. It wasn’t an obvious connection, but it was a deep one. Blair just needed to make sure that Natalie was taken care of no matter what. Blair knew full well that one-day, Nat have to do things without her. She hoped that whichever of the two proposers Nat chose, took over her job of protecting Nat. She also needed to get the other girls to come, eventually Natalie would discover everything. It would take Mrs. Garrett, Jo, and Tootie to get her through. Robert or Harper could try, but only the girls could see Natalie through this particularly crushing blow. She needed them to come, and she couldn’t let them know what was going on. If they found out, then their attitudes towards her would alert Natalie to the fact that not everything was right. She needed them strong. They’d have to be kept in the dark, for the sake of everybody they had to be strong when the moment came that Blair’s strength finally failed.

******************************************************************************************

Tad Warner’s world was falling apart right before his very eyes. How could this be happening? It had to be a nightmare. He felt as though someone was taking the heart out of his chest. Blair was his life, without her there was absolutely no reason to continue living. He had to forget that for now. Blair didn’t want for the girls or Mrs. Garrett to know what was going on, so for the next two weeks he was going to have to pretend that everything was just peachy keen. These two weeks would truly test his strength. It was time to go home, he’d done his job. Blair had asked him to call everyone and coordinate their arrivals. Natalie of course was coming. Mrs. Garrett, Jo, and Dorothy were supposedly a surprise for her. Tad, however, knew the truth; Blair wanted them their when the time came. It was important that Nat be taken care of, and Blair wouldn’t be in peace when the time finally came if she was not. He just hoped that this trip only involved preperation for that event. Jo was at some retreat for her job as a guidance counselor, and not only could she not come but Jo and Rick could only get in touch in case of an emergency. The receptionists at the camp had orders to prioritize calls. Rick and Jamie were coming, they’d promised not to miss this miniature reunion. He just hoped that Jo checked in soon, so that she could figure out how to attend.

******************************************************************************************

Dorothy was amazed, Natalie had two proposals. She was overjoyed for her best friend but it was hard. She was struggling to raise Tisha alone, and Natalie had two men. She still felt bitterness towards Jeff, or should she say Jefferson. She thought that being pregnant would be great, it wasn’t. When Grandmother Williams had found out, she had said that Tootie was out to ruin Jeff’s career. Tootie and Jeff had gone baby shopping and when they got home their was a message on the answering machine from Grandmother Williams: “ Jefferson I expect you to come see me as soon as you get home, we must speak seriously about your future.” Jeff had of course gone running like a loyal puppy dog. He never came home. The next day she got the call, he wanted a divorce. He told her that she’d gotten on pregnant on purpose to hold him down, and that the baby probably wasn’t even his. He then added that to show what a great guy he was he’d still pay child support as long as she never brought the baby anywhere near him. She’d told him that all she wanted from him was for him to resign his parental rights, she’d raise her baby by herself. Grandmother Williams had everything taken care of: six months into her pregnancy the divorce was finalized, when Tisha was nine-months-old Grandmother Williams married Jeff off to a young socialite. The day that they finalized the divorce Tootie had died and Dorothy had been born. He’d called recently and told Tisha that she had a little brother, a one and a half year old named Jefferson Williams, Jr., she was about to also have a little sister his wife was due any day now. Grandmother Williams had gotten everything that she wanted Jeff and Emily waited five years to start a family, until Jeff’s career was established. He now had a successful law practice that he used to make all of his wife and children’s dreams come true, while she and Tisha had to make every meal last at least for two. It wasn’t like they were on welfare or anything they just had to economize. She didn’t regret her decision, it had left her with her dignity intact. She simply wished that Jeff would stop his occasional calls. He didn’t have any rights to Tisha, and he just made her suffer. He told Tisha about his kids, and made her realize what she didn’t have. Oh well, it was time to go to the airport. She couldn’t wait for the next two weeks to start, in Peekskill there was no Jeff, no Grandmother Williams, no Emily, and no children to rub in Tisha’s face. The only thing waiting for them there would be people filled with love for them.

******************************************************************************************

Edna couldn’t shake her apprehension. There was something going on with Blair. Edna wasn’t sure what, but her maternal instinct was screaming: something isn’t right. Tad was too urgent to make Blair happy in this instance. Edna had always loved the fact that Tad bent over backwards to make Blair’s dreams come true, it made her feel good to see Blair with a man that adored her and treated her like a queen. This time, however it was different. Tad sounded like he was dying inside. She sure was glad that she’d be back in Peekskill soon; Blair had always had a hard time lying to her. Once in Peekskill, she knew that it wouldn’t take her long to get Blair to tell her everything.

******************************************************************************************

Rick was ecstatic that Tad had called. He was going crazy taking care of a little girl and Jo had only been gone two days. He didn’t think that he would survive the month long retreat, but then they were asked to go to Peekskill which meant four women to help him out. He and Jamie would be there in record time.

******************************************************************************************

Natalie was confused. She had never really gotten any attention from men, and now she had two proposing to her at the same time. She was incredibly grateful that she had Blair. She knew that Blair would help her sort all of this out. She couldn’t wait to see the inn and stay up all night talking and of course eating with her big sister, little did she know that this get together would change her world forever. How can anybody predict that their world is about to come down around them?

I thought that I'd have Chapter 2 up tonight, but I have a lot of Chemistry homework to do. I'll have it up tomorrow. The other thing that I know is that " Journey of Faith" is really coming along. I've figured out the kinks, I just am going to wait to finish this one first. I tried doing to at once, Enlightening Reunion and Mama's Boy but one was always being neglected. One last thing I've got my next one started. It's going to be called " Labor of Love." Blair is in a car accident. The doctors have to operate, and then tell her that she and Cliff may not be able to get pregnant due to damage to her uterus from the surgery. Jo steps in as a surrogate. Of course after the baby's born, everyone gets a pleasant surprise.

Chapter 2

Edna arrived at the inn the night before any of them was supposed to be there. She had to get there first, it was important that she talk to Blair by herself. She loved the girls, but she knew that their presence would keep Blair from opening up. She went to ring the doorbell. It was time for the moment of truth; it was now or never.

******************************************************************************************

Blair was cuddled up in her favorite chair reading a book in front of the fire, when the doorbell rang. She wondered who it could be. The inn didn’t have any guests for the next two weeks, to accommodate the reunion, and Tad was away for the night on business. He hadn’t wanted to go, but she knew that he needed time to himself and had made him leave telling him that the business in Manhattan was important. She was sure the clincher was, Tad that business has to be taken care of this week, it’s more important that you be here when the girls find out the truth than that you be here tonight. She felt bad. She had done it for him, but also for herself she needed time to deal with what was happening to her. She went to the door to tell whoever it was that there was no vacancy. Instead of a wayward guest she found herself looking straight into a pair of eyes that were filled with concern. The eyes that had always been able to make her buckle during the nine years that she spent with their owner as her protector and confidant. Those eyes could only belong to one person, Mrs. Garrett.

Blair: Mrs. Garrett. I wasn’t expecting you until tomorrow. Come on in.

Edna: Thank-you.

Blair: What brings you here tonight? Where’s Bruce?

Edna: Bruce is flying in tomorrow. Blair I thought that it was important that I talk to you alone.

Blair: Why?

Edna: Both you and I know that something isn’t right. You called us here for Natalie, but there’s something
else.

Blair knew instantly that she’d have to share her secret. The girls she could stall, they had no clue; but Mrs. Garrett was different. Mrs. Garrett wouldn’t stand for anything but the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Blair: Edna sit down. This is a conversation that has to take place from woman to woman, not mother to
daughter.

******************************************************************************************

Edna’s heart sank when she heard Edna come from Blair’s mouth. If Blair wanted a woman to woman talk then whatever was wrong was serious.

******************************************************************************************

Blair could see the fear in Mrs. Garrett’s eyes. There was no turning back, for the remainder of this conversation it had to remain Edna and Blair; afterwards the Mrs. Garrett and Blair relationship could continue. The only thing that she could do now for this woman that she considered her mother was to just continue and not hold out the suspense any longer than she already had.

Blair: Edna, do you remember when I was at Eastland and my mother had that breast-cancer scare?

Edna: Yes. Are you telling me that you have breast cancer?

Blair: No. As you probably know it was a tumor it was simply benign. Well, that counts to higher my
chances of cancer. This has made me get regular check-ups. At my last check-up, my mammogram
was perfect; however, my pap smear wasn’t, it showed irregular cells. Edna, I have cervical cancer.

At this point Edna fell into Blair’s arms sobbing. Blair was trying to be strong, but she finally succumbed to the tears.

Blair: Mrs. Garrett. I’m not getting the chemo. It doesn’t improve my chances, and if it fails it’s just going
to make me too sick to enjoy whatever time I have left. I want to dance with Tad at Nat’s wedding,
not be too sick to even attend.

Edna: So you’re just going to let yourself die.

Blair: No. I’m going in for blood work next week. If everything is okay, I’ll have a hysterectomy, in two
weeks; after you and the girls go home.

Edna: I won’t leave you, sweetie.

Blair took Mrs. Garrett’s chin in her hand.

Blair: Listen to me, Mrs. Garrett. You were right when you said that I had called you here for Natalie. She
and I have become very close in the last few years. I’m very sick, I can get a lot sicker very quickly.
If things don’t workout and I get sick, I’m going to need you Mrs. Garrett. I need you and the girls
to get her through this if push comes to shove. I need you to be at her wedding. I need you to take
care of my baby sister. I also need you to keep this between us, Tootie and Natalie can’t find out
unless the worst case scenario comes to pass.

Edna: I will.

Blair: Promise me, please Mrs. Garrett, promise me.

Edna: I promise.

Blair just held Mrs. Garrett in her arms as she sobbed, just as she had held Blair when Blair was in pain. The next morning when he came home, Tad found his wife holding Mrs. Garrett as they both slept in each other’s arms.

Chapter 3

In the morning, the first thought that crossed Edna’s mind was Davey. Tad had woken both she and Blair, but she had yet to see Blair’s son. David Edward Warner had been born when Blair was only twenty-two years old. Blair and her boyfriend Casey had broken up, when they realized that they wanted different things. Casey wanted for them to live together and didn’t want any children; Blair wanted to get married and have kids. Two weeks after the break up, Blair found out that she was pregnant. Casey only stuck around for the first trimester, then he ran. Edna had come back to the states, when she found out about the baby. She knew that Beverly Ann wasn’t prepared to help Blair through this, she still felt that she was an outsider and that it was Edna that had the girls love and trust. Luckily, when Davey was a year old Blair had met Tad, and when Davey was two they had married. Blair and Tad had tried for years to have a baby together, but hadn’t been successful. They focused on Davey, Tad was his father although they had the tendency to not get along. Blair was the love of his life, if he knew it had to be killing him inside. Just then Blair came down the stairs.

Edna: Blair.

Blair: Yes, Mrs. Garrett.

Edna: Does Davey know?

Blair: Yes and no. He knows about the cancer, he was there when I found out and he knows about the hysterectomy. He doesn’t know that if it doesn’t work, I’m going to die. I guess I’ve been in denial. I’ve focused on how badly Nat’s going to take it because I can’t handle what this is going to do to Davey.

Edna: Blair, you have to tell him. You know that Tad and he aren’t really close. He can’t find it out from anybody else.

Blair: I know. I wanted to wait until after the surgery, but I see now that I can’t continue to make him think that there’s no chance of me dying when there is. I have to make sure that whatever happens, he’s ready for it. I’ll tell him this afternoon, when he gets home from his cub scout trip.

******************************************************************************************

Blair and Edna spent the rest of the morning reminiscing. At four o’clock the door opened.

Davey: MOM! Where are you?

Blair: In here sweetie, with Grandma.

Davey ran up the stairs and hugged his mother and grandmother.

Davey: Mommy, I brought you something.

Blair: Oh, let me see.

Davey pulled out a silver bracelet from his pocket. It had an inscription and when Blair read it she cried.

David Edward Warner
February 14, 1990
Mommy’s Little Boy
Forever

Blair: Davey, I love. It’s absolutely beautiful, and you’re right. You are going to be my little boy forever.

Davey: The offered us shop class or jewelry making, my friend’s thought that I was a wimp, but I told them that I wanted to bring you back something special.

Blair: Baby, you have no idea just how special this is to me. We need to talk, sweetheart.

******************************************************************************************

Davey was so happy. He loved cub scout trips, but he preferred being home with his mom. Then he’d gotten a surprise, his grandma was there. His heart, however, was quickly sinking. The tone of his mother’s voice told him that whatever she was going to tell him, wasn’t good.

******************************************************************************************

Blair hated what she was doing to her son. There was a moment when she almost backed out, but then she realized that she couldn’t. Mrs. Garrett was right, she had to tell him before someone else accidentally let it slip. She took him into her arms and started to do the hardest thing that she had ever had to, tell her son that she might die.

Blair: Davey, do you remember when I got my test results from the doctor?

Davey: Yes.

******************************************************************************************

Davey was really scared now. He had done some reading on cervical cancer, and he knew that it could be fatal If this conversation that his mom was taking so seriously had to do with that, then this really wasn’t going to be good.

******************************************************************************************

Blair saw the fear rise up in his eyes, but she continued. She knew that if she stopped, she wouldn’t continue.

Blair: Davey, there’s a chance that the operation that I told you about won’t work. It probably will; but if it doesn’t, then baby there’s a chance that I won’t make it.

Davey snuggled up into his mother’s arms and cried with his head buried into her chest.

Davey: Mommy, please don’t leave me.

Blair: Hey, I don’t plan on going anywhere so make your plans with me in them, okay.

Davey: Okay, mommy.

Edna’s heart broke as she walked out of the room and closed the door, leaving mother and son to face this difficult moment together.

Chapter 4

Edna went to her room and cried herself to sleep. An hour later the doorbell rang, she went to check on Blair and Davey. Davey was fast asleep in Blair’s arms, so she asked that Edna open the door and tell whoever it was that both of them were asleep. This way, Blair could have a little more uninterrupted time with her son.

******************************************************************************************

Natalie was already starting to get antsy. She had rung the doorbell ten full minutes ago. Where were Blair, Tad, and Davey? She got out her cell phone to call them, when the door was opened by Mrs. Garrett. Nat didn’t like this at all. She was glad to see Mrs. Garrett, but her eyes were all puffy. Why had she opened the door and why had she been crying?

******************************************************************************************

Edna knew that Blair wasn’t ready to tell Natalie any of the truth, so she hid her feelings as best she could. She felt that Natalie should be told immediately, but she had promised Blair that Nat would only find out if the worst case scenario played out. Edna had always kept her promises to her girls, and she wasn’t about to stop now. She hugged Natalie and brought her inside.

Natalie: Mrs. Garrett, what’s wrong?

Edna: Nothing, sweetie.

Natalie: Then why are your eyes all puffy.

Edna: Blair, Davey, and I were watching Bambi.

Natalie: Davey’s back from his cub scout trip?

Blair: Yes, and you should see what he brought me.

******************************************************************************************

Blair heard the doorbell, and slid Davey over. She was sure that it was Natalie and she couldn’t leave Mrs. Garrett alone to handle the situation. It wasn’t fair. She went down the stairs and sure enough there was Natalie. She called out to her and went to say hi. Natalie hugged Blair.

Natalie: Hey, sis.

Blair: I knew that you’d be the first to get here.

Natalie: But I’m not, Mrs. Garrett was.

Blair: Yeah, but you got here before Tootie, I’m sorry Dorothy. It’s still hard for me to accept that you
guys are grown women.

Natalie: Hey, no problem. I still can’t accept that she’s a grown woman. Where’s Tad?

Blair: He’s at work. He got home from Manhattan last night, now he’s at the site making sure that
everything with the Eastland renovations go according to the plans that he and the board at Warner
Industries agreed on.

******************************************************************************************
Davey woke up with a start, his mom wasn’t there. Then he heard his Aunt Natalie and knew exactly where his mom was. He went into the bathroom and washed his face. He didn’t want her to see that he had cried. He knew the truth, but there was absolutely no need for her to know it too. He went down stairs and straight into her arms.

Davey: Hey, Aunt Nat. I thought you’d never get here.

Natalie: Hey, little man.

Davey: Am I going to approve of the guys that proposed to you, or am I going to have to run them off?

Natalie laughed.

Natalie: I’m sure that you’ll like them. Your new uncle is a very nice man, whichever one I choose.

Edna: Well that’s what we’re here for, to help you make that decision.

Blair: Yeah, Nat. Start talking.

Natalie: Okay. There’s Harper, he’s a doctor; and Robert he’s a contractor.

Blair: No, no, no. That’s all very nice, but I want to know if they’re good looking. Come on, let’s get to the
important stuff.

Edna: You took the words right out of my mouth.

Natalie: They’re both incredibly good looking.

******************************************************************************************

Blair was glad at her choice of topics, by keeping the atmosphere playful she could avoid any conversations that may lead to Natalie finding everything out. Four hours of discussion over whether salt, pepper, and distinguished looking was more attractive than the young, built look; Rick arrived with Jamie. Blair couldn’t be happier than when Davey and Jamie hit it off. They would be great friends, and if things got bad he would have someone to talk to. Now, all that was left was for him to get along just as well Tisha. If these two were anything like there mothers, they would be his safety net if she didn’t pull through.

I'm thinking of posting " Labor of Love" on Saturday. If I do, I'll do a chapter every Saturday. If I do it any other way one of the fanfictions will be neglected. " Journey of Faith" I'm not posting until I have at least five chapters on the pad, because that one is going to take a lot of my time. If I do it any other way it will only be updated like monthly.

Chapter 5

Jamie liked being here. Aunt Blair was the best, and she really liked Davey. He played soccer and was really good. There was only one thing bugging her, she wished that she knew what was hurting him. There was a look in his eyes that said that he was hurting. They had only been getting to know each other for a couple of days, but he was already her best friend. She wished that her mother hadn’t moved away. If they had grown-up together, then may be just may be she would have felt more comfortable asking her best friend what was wrong. It broke her heart to see him in so much pain, but there was nothing that she could do about it.

******************************************************************************************

Tootie and Tisha arrived to a full house. Tootie couldn’t believe how big Davey and Jamie had gotten. Davey was an amazing young man, it gave her hope for Tisha. He didn’t have Casey, just like Tisha didn’t have Jeff. Tootie knew that it was different, he at least had Tad, but still his biological father wasn’t around and he wasn’t some horror story of today’s fatherless youth.

******************************************************************************************

Tisha was in-love. Davey Warner was the cutest guy that she had ever met. He for his part didn’t know that she was even alive. She was going to get Aunt Blair to take them out to the movies. This way she would have something to talk to him about. All of the grown-ups were sitting at the table, while Jamie and Davey were playing Nintendo. She went over and sat on her mom’s lap.

Tootie: Hey, hon.

Tisha: Hey.

Tootie: What’s the matter?

Tisha: Nothing.

Tootie: Bored, huh?

Tisha: A little.

Blair: Tootie, why don’t we go to the movies tonight, instead of tomorrow?

Tootie: Blair, I couldn’t ask you to do that.

Blair: It’s no trouble at all. I’ll go get the paper from the kitchen, so that we can find a movie that we all
want to see.

Tad: I left it on the table, sweetheart.

As the words left his mouth, Tad saw his wife double over in intense pain.

******************************************************************************************

Blair was hit by the sharp pain as she walked through the door that separated the dining room from the kitchen. The pain was so intense that it forced her to double over. The one good thing about having converted Mrs. Garrett’s old house into an inn, was that it was small so Tad was by her side in mere seconds. He sweeped her into her arms and laid her down on the couch. There were tears in her eyes as she spoke to him.

Blair: Tad, it hurts really, really bad.

Tad: Sweetheart, may be I should call an ambulance.

******************************************************************************************

Natalie was terrified, she wanted to know exactly what was wrong with Blair.

Nat: What’s going on?

Tad: Nothing.

Tad spoke to Blair.

Tad: Do you want me to call?

Natalie was getting fed up.

Natalie: I WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON, RIGHT NOW!!!

******************************************************************************************

Blair could sense the fear in Natalie’s voice, and knew that if she wanted the severity of the situation kept a secret she had to speak now.

Blair: Natalie, calm down. Tad, there’s no need for an ambulance just let me explain everything to Natalie, and then I’d like for you to take me upstairs.

Tad: Yes, dear.

Blair: Nat, the doctor thinks that I have an ulcer. I’m going in for tests next week, and surgery the week after. Years of running Warner Industries and the hotel chain and keeping Eastland open finally caught up with my body.

Blair could feel Mrs. Garrett’s disapproving gaze, but she pressed on. This was a necessary lie, that would avoid Natalie a lot of pain. In a way, it wasn’t a lie; just a half truth. She was having tests and surgery, just not for an ulcer.

Blair: I’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.

Natalie: Get upstairs, and in bed now. You shouldn’t be going a mile a minute. You know what for the next two weeks, we’re going to take care of you.

Blair: Yes, m’am.

Natalie: Now Tad, take her upstairs and put her to bed.

Tad: My pleasure. I’ve been trying to get her to slow down.

******************************************************************************************

Jamie saw Davey go outside, as his Dad took his Mom to bed. She followed him. It looked like he had tears in his eyes and she was going to find out why. She had been scared to push, but after seeing her Aunt Natalie with her Aunt Blair; she knew what she had to do. Jamie’s duty as a friend was to push when necessary, and right now it was definitely necessary to push.

I know that at the end of this chapter, Blair suddenly seems to feel no pain. In fact she does. In the next chapter, Tad has to give her an injection because her oral medication just isn't strong enough. She just didn't want to scare Natalie, Tootie, Tisha, Rick, or Jamie seeing as they don't know the truth. I'm writing this reply because the next chapter brings a lot of complications, and I had to clear these things up to help the next chapter's plot.

Chapter 6

Jamie went and sat on the porch by Davey’s side, unaware that they had company. Tisha was sitting right inside the door, listening in. Jamie put her arm around Davey as he cried. This had to be bad, he wasn’t even trying to hold in his tears.

Jamie: Davey, what’s going on?

Davey: Jamie, will you do me a favor?

Jamie: Anything.

Davey: Get your mom up here. Please.

Jamie: Why?

Davey: Swear that you won’t tell anyone.

Jamie: I swear.

Davey: My mom doesn’t have an ulcer. She has cancer, she’s having surgery in a couple of weeks. I found out when I came home from camp, that she’s probably going to die. She says she doesn’t plan on it, but I did some research. She won’t take the medicine, she’s just having the surgery. All of the books that I read said that surgery without chemotherapy and/or radiation has a very low success rate.

Jamie felt the tears well up in her eyes against her will.

Jamie: Are you trying to tell me that Aunt Blair is dying?

Davey: Yes.

Jamie: Is that what this reunion is about?

Davey: Yeah. She says that it’s about Aunt Nat’s wedding, but it isn’t. This is about her seeing all of her friends one last time. I know that seeing your mom would mean a lot to her.

Jamie: I’ll do what I can.

Davey: If you have to, tell your mom everything. She should know, just don’t let the others find out another part of this is making sure that everyone especially Aunt Nat is taken care of should the time come.

Jamie and Davey just sat there, both thinking about what this disease was going to do to their mothers. Blair would probably die, and Jo would be devastated should that happen.

******************************************************************************************

Edna went upstairs as Tad was coming out of the master bedroom.

Edna: How is she? I know everything, so tell me the truth. I came up here to keep the girls in the dark like I promised Blair, but I want to know what’s really going on.

Tad: I know. She told me that she had told you. Edna, I’m taking her to the doctor tomorrow. She finally fell asleep after I gave her the morphine injection, but she was still in pain. Edna this can’t be good, the oral medication has always worked and now not even did the injection work completely. Edna it got so bad, that she was sobbing. She tried to be strong downstairs, but as soon as we were alone the tears started. She fell asleep in my arms. I just feel so helpless. We’ve had ten years together nine of them in marriage, and I’ve always been able to make everything all better. I don’t know how to make this all better.

Edna: I know, Tad, believe me I know. I helped to raise those girls and I can’t make this better either. I saw them through broken hearts. I mean I was there when Blair was being treated like dirt by one of her boyfriends. I was there when Casey abandoned Blair and she had to go through her pregnancy and her son’s birth without him. I was there when Natalie didn’t feel attractive. I was there when Tootie, was changing for a guy and when Jeff left her. I was there when Jo wanted to get married in high school. I saw them through all of that and more, but this I can’t fix. I can’t keep her from dying, and I can’t keep the other three from having to go through that kind of pain.

Edna and Tad held each other for a moment and them headed downstairs to calm Natalie.

Natalie: How is she?

Tad: Sleeping. I gave her some of her pain medicine and I called her doctor. We’re going in for the blood work tomorrow. He’s scared that the ulcer may be starting to rupture, so he’s going to push the tests through. We’ll have the results tomorrow before we leave his office.

Natalie: Good.

******************************************************************************************

Blair and Tad left for the doctor’s office early the next morning, not knowing that they were in for a big surprise. It took three hours, but they were finally sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for the results. The second that they saw the look on the doctor’s face, they knew that whatever was going on was bad, very, very bad.

Doctor: Mr. and Mrs. Warner, we’ve got a problem.

Tad: Doctor, what did you find in my wife’s test results?

Doctor: A second procedure is going to be necessary. I fear that when Mrs. Warner finds out what the procedure is she’ll decline treatment or at least postpone it. Before I tell you what it is, I just want to explain that if this complication is not dealt with immediately Mrs. Warner’s chances of survival go down from twenty percent to two percent. The second procedure is quite basically essential to Mrs. Warner’s survival.

Blair: Doctor, what exactly is this procedure?

Doctor: An abortion.

Blair: What!

Doctor: Mrs. Warner, your test results have revealed that you are approximately six weeks pregnant.

Tad responds with tears in his eyes.

Tad: Doctor, this baby means the world to us. However, if it’s either the baby or my wife; I want for you to go ahead and schedule the abortion.

Blair: No, I won’t do it Tad. I can’t believe that you would even consider it, let alone just agree to it without even asking me. It’s not going to happen, it just isn’t. No way.

Okay, one last post. Sorry, I just saw your question. Davey was born on February 14, 1990 liked he engraved on the braclet. Jamie followed on April 26, 1990. Tisha's ten. It actually answers another question. Yes, I am doing this like the reunion. Like, I said in a previous post I read about the reunion and felt that a few adjustments were necessary. I like drama, so I added cancer and very possibly death. I like the Blair/Jo dynamic, so I added a reason that would bring Jo back no matter what. I couldn't believe that they had written Blair childless, so I gave her a son. I'm one of those people who get's ideas from watching or reading something and just needing to tweak it a little. It certain details about somthing annoy me enough, I write based on whaever it is and change it. Okay, now bed. Good-night.

P. S. Sorry about the two posted reply, but as I was going over everything before bed I ran across those to questions. I felt that it would be rude to not answer, so I replied again.

Another chapter tonight. I couldn't think of what to write. Then all of the sudden after seventh period, the guy that I like asked me to go to homecoming with him. You'd be amazed at what an extremely incredible good mood and I do mean extremely incredible good mood can do for writer's block. Hopefully, after the dance on Friday I will no longer be single. I'm ecstatic right now. The chapter's coming soon, I just need to tie up a few things.

Chapter 7

Natalie decided that she would call her father. He might know of a more effective and less invasive treatment for Blair’s ulcer. She went up to Tad and Blair’s bedroom to see what the medication that Blair was on was called, that information might help her father. She never expected to find a syringe and a bottle of morphine.

Natalie: Tootie!

Tootie and Tisha came running up the stairs.

Tootie: Natalie, what is it?

Natalie: Where’s Mrs. Garrett?

Tootie: She took Davey and Jamie to the sporting goods store. Why?

Natalie: If anybody knows the meaning of this, it’ll be her.

Tootie: What are you talking about?

Natalie: I came up here to find out what medication Blair is on, so that I could tell me dad. I thought that may be he could help her. This was in the trash. Tootie, doctors don’t give their ulcer patients this. They give them oral medications.

Tootie: We’ll know everything as soon as Mrs. Garrett gets back. You’re right she knows, whatever it is she knows.

Tisha: She’s not the only one.

Tootie: What do you mean by that?

Tisha: Mom, I overheard Jamie and Davey talking yesterday. Aunt Natalie, she doesn’t want anybody to know. Aunt Blair has cancer. She’s dying, this reunion was about seeing you guys one last time. It was also about making sure that you guys especially you, Aunt Natalie, were taken care of when she died. She was supposed to have the tests that she’s doing today next week, and surgery two weeks from now.

Natalie was in shock, Tootie went over and put her arms around her best friend. Tisha left the room, this was one of those moments where you let the grown ups be alone.

Tootie: Natalie, we have to calm down. It’s important to Blair, that we not know. If we really do love her, then we have to pretend for her sake. Just until after the surgery. Okay, Nat?

Natalie: Okay. I hate this, but I’ll do it for Blair.

******************************************************************************************

In ten years together, never had Blair and Tad gotten into a fight of this magnitude. He insisted on abortion, while she insisted that over her dead body would anyone harm her baby. Tad hurt her then, he told her that if she didn’t agree to the abortion that is exactly what would happen. Tad saw this statement as a dose of reality, Blair saw it as a dose of cruelty. The rode the rest of the way home is suffocating tension and utter silence. It would be a long, long time before Blair forgave him for feeling that the baby was in anyway secondary to her.

******************************************************************************************

Edna took Davey and Jamie out to the sporting goods store, before anyone could wake up. Jamie needed to try to get in touch with her mother. Davey’s need of new shoes for soccer practice, was the perfect excuse to get them out of the house where Jamie could make her call in private.

Jamie: Hello, Fountain of Youth Consoling Retreat?

Receptionist: Yes, how can I help you?

Jamie: I need to speak to my mother, Mrs. Joanna Bonner.

Receptionist: I’m sorry, Mrs. Bonner is on our isolation retreat.

Jamie: You don’t get it. I NEED to speak with my mother now. My Aunt Blair is really, really sick. She could die. It’s important that my mom be here if that happens.

Receptionist: I’ll patch you straight through, m’am. As a matter of fact, I’ll start the paper work now that has to be shown at the gate. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that your Mom gets there

Jamie: Just please don’t tell her why. Let me be the one.

Receptionist: Will do.

Jamie: Thanks.

Receptionist: No problem.

It only took the receptionist five minutes after that, to patch Jamie through to her mother.

Jo: Jamie?

Jamie: Mommy, you need to come up here.

Jo: What’s going on, why do you need me to go up there, and why are you using Mommy? Baby, you only use that when you’re really scared. Have you been crying? Jamie, you’re scaring me. Tell me what’s going on.

Jamie: Mommy, it’s Aunt Blair.

Jo: What about Aunt Blair?

Jamie: Mommy, she has cervical cancer. She might die.

Jo: What!

Jamie: We all came to Peekskill for a little reunion. She had a really bad pain, and told us that it was an ulcer. Davey told me the truth, it’s cancer. The reunion was to see all of you guys one last time and make sure that you were all taken care of when the time came.

Jo: I’ll be there by morning.

Sorry, just saw that. I guess I should have put that in the post that I made clearing things up. Yes, in my story Natalie's dad is still alive. I remember that episode well, I just thought that it would give Natalie a good reason to go snooping around for Blair's medicine. Later in the story her dad also plays into why, she's having trouble deciding which man to choose. If anyone has anymore questions please ask. There are times when I'm writing and I forget that my audience doesn't necessarily know what is swimming through my head. I get " brilliant ideas " and forget to give them a developing, so just let me know.

Chapter 8

Jamie was comforted by the fact that her mother was coming. She didn’t want for her Aunt Blair to die, but if she did at least her mother would be there.

Jamie: You promise.

Jo: Bright and early.

Jamie: Bye, Mommy.

Jo: See you tomorrow, baby.

Jamie hung up the cellular phone, and was immediately pounced upon.

Davey: So?

Edna: Is she coming?

Jamie: She’ll be here by tomorrow morning. In her words, bright and early.

Davey: Good. It’ll really help my mom to see her.

Jamie: May be even tonight. I love my mother dearly, but to her bright and early means dreadful hours like three o’clock in the morning.

Edna: I’ll wait up for her. Jamie, this is going to be hard for her. It might be better if she talks to me first. She’s your mother and wants to protect you, so there are things that she may need to get off her chest that she might not necessarily tell you or may be even your dad.

Davey: Grandma, let’s go home. I really want to know how it went with my Mom’s test results.

Edna: Okay, honey.

Edna, Davey, and Jamie went back to the inn.

Edna: Natalie, Tootie, Tisha, Rick, Bruce, anyone?

Natalie, Tootie, and Tisha come into the room.

Natalie: Mrs. Garrett, you’re back.

Edna: Yes. Are Blair and Tad back from the doctor’s office yet?

Tootie: No, not yet.

Tisha is looking out the window when she sees her aunt and uncle’s limo, she also sees that her aunt and uncle look angry. It’s amazing they appear angry at each other, especially her Aunt Blair.

Tisha: They just pulled up and Aunt Blair, looks like she’s ANGRY.

Davey: Uh-oh.

******************************************************************************************

Blair had never been so furious. She stormed in to the house and slammed the door in Tad’s face. He had been so insensitive to her feelings that she really didn’t care if he got his feelings hurt. If this was the game that he wanted to play then so be it. He had no idea how cruel she could be, if she wanted to.

******************************************************************************************

Davey went and hugged his mother the second that his Dad opened the door. It was obvious that for some reason he was in the dog house, big time. Davey wasn’t about to let his Dad continue to upset his Mom. She needed to have peace and tranquility, not the fight of the century. He made sure that his Mom knew that whatever had happened, he was behind her. Davey went and wrapped his arms around her waist. Davey glared at his father, with his head against Blair chest. To her he spoke with a voice filled with the unconditional love that only a child and parent can share.

Davey: Mommy, what’s wrong?

******************************************************************************************

Blair felt better in the moment that her son arms wrapped around her, than she had felt since this whole ordeal began.

Blair: Nothing, baby. Your Dad and I just had a slight disagreement that’s all.

Jamie thought to herself, slight disagreement - the understatement of the century.

Tad: TELL HIM WHY!

Blair: DON’T YOU DARE YELL AT ME!

Tad: Fine, I’m not yelling. Tell him.

Blair: Baby, you know that surgery that I told you about.

Davey: Yeah.

Blair: I’m postponing it for awhile.

Blair could have sworn that she saw disbelief in the faces of all present, but that was impossible. The only people that knew the gravity of the situation were Davey, Mrs. Garrett, and Tad. It must be her imagination playing tricks on her.

Davey: Why?

Blair: Davey, my test results showed that I’m pregnant. The surgery is very dangerous for the baby. Your Dad thinks that I should have the surgery even though it puts the baby at risk. I think that I should just wait for the baby to be ready. Do you understand?

Davey: Yes, Mommy. I don’t like it, but I understand.

******************************************************************************************

Natalie felt the like the floor had been pulled out from under her. As a doctor’s daughter she knew that Blair’s refusal of surgery, was basically the sign and seal on her death sentence. There was very little chance of Blair surviving if she waited for nine more months to have the surgery. The pregnancy would speed up the cancer’s progress.

Chapter 9

Blair and the others went to bed, after an exhausting day. Edna was still awake, as were Jamie and Davey. Edna, however, was the only one downstairs. She knew that she had to be the one to talk to Jo first, not the children. Jo was a grown up to them they would look to her for comfort. Jo was going to need to be the comforted not the comforter. Edna was amazed by Jamie’s knowledge of her mother. At three o’clock in the morning on the dot, there was a light knock on the inn door.

******************************************************************************************

Jo was so glad to see Mrs. Garrett at the door. She loved her daughter, but she wasn’t what she needed at this particular moment.

Jo: Hey, Mrs. G.

Edna: Hey, Jo. Come in and sit on the couch with me.

Jo and Edna slump down onto the couch next to one another.

Jo: So is it true, does she have cancer? Jamie told me that she did, but I would like to think that Jamie just misunderstood what Davey told her about his mother’s health.

Edna: Unfortunately, Jamie didn’t misunderstand. Blair really does have cancer.

Jo: So, she’ll have surgery and chemo and be fine.

Edna: She refuses to get the chemo. She says that if treatment doesn’t work, she wants to spend the time she has left, as healthy as can be expected.

Jo: So, she’ll have surgery and be fine.

Edna: No. Jo, when Jamie, Davey, and I got back from calling you there was bad news.

Jo: What happened?

Edna: Tad’s sleeping in a guestroom tonight.

Jo: What does that have to do with Blair’s health?

Edna: They got in a fight. Blair found out today that she’s pregnant. She’s postponing the surgery until after the baby is born. Tad told me that the doctor said that should she have the baby and postpone the surgery, her chances of survival would go down to about two percent. Tad wanted her to have an abortion and have the surgery. She said over my dead body, he responded by telling her that it was likely that over her dead body would be the outcome if she didn’t have the abortion. It didn’t go over well with Blair.

Jo: So she’s going to die.

Edna: Yes, sweetie. Blair is dying.

Jo huddle into Mrs. Garrett and wept.

******************************************************************************************

Edna knew that keeping Jamie and Davey away from Jo was the right decision. Jo was currently huddled against her much like a small child against its mother weeping inconsolably. She was feeling a lot of pain at the knowledge that her best friend may not have that much longer to live. She never would have let it out in the presence of the two children that she knew were also hurting inside.

******************************************************************************************

The first thing that Blair saw when she came downstairs the next morning, was the mischievous look in Mrs. Garrett’s eyes.

Blair: Mrs. Garrett, why do you have that look in your eye?

Edna: Davey, Jamie, and I have a surprise for you.

Blair: What is it?

Jamie: Guess.

Blair: Diamonds.

Davey: No, Mommy. Now guess for real.

Blair: I don’t know.

Davey: I’ll give you a hint. Your surprise once gave you a black eye, stay up with you all night when you were dating a jerk, and supported you after you had the car accident.

There are tears and Blair’s eyes by now. Jo comes down the stairs behind Blair.

Jo: Yeah, I think my favorite was the black eye.

Blair swung around to face the voice the had just spoken.

Blair: JO! You’re here.

Jo: Yup.

Blair and Jo hugged, holding each other long and hard. Jo then whispered into her best friend’s ear.

Jo: Warner, I know everything. Davey told Jamie, and she told me. You can stop being the strong one now, I’m here to be strong for you.

At that moment the emotional dam that had been inside of Blair since the diagnosis broke down. She had been strong and hidden her own fears for the sake of her loved ones. Now, that burden had been lifted, and so she cried freely on the shoulder of her best friend.

******************************************************************************************

Davey loved his Aunt Jo for what she was doing. He, his father, and his Grandma had tried being strong for his mother but she wouldn’t let them. He saw his Aunt Jo tell his mother something. He didn’t know what the words she spoke were, but it was obvious that the position of his mother’s rock had finally found someone who could fill it.

Tad got to work the next day by pure miracle. He’d been so preoccupied with the possibility of losing his wife and having to raise their children together. Davey, who hated him, and the new baby. He’d always remember the day that he met Blair. She was struggling to get into Eastland with a beautiful blonde haired baby boy on her hip. He had gone to the school to accompany his little sister to her first day of class. He’d left a man in-love with both the beautiful woman and her bouncing baby boy. How was he to have known that he and that baby would later feel the need to compete for her heart? He was trying to accept that Blair’s love for them was equal yet different; he just hoped that Davey did the same. They loved each other deeply, the just needed to learn to show it. Suddenly, his daydreaming was interrupted. A letter with his name in Blair’s handwriting fell out of his briefcase.

My Dearest Tad,

Darling, I know that you think that I’m being selfish by having this baby even though if might very well kill me. I found this poem last night and hope that it explains my feelings.

If Tomorrow Starts Without Me

If tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not there to see.
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say.

I know how you love me, as much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too.
But if tomorrow starts without me, please understand
That an angel and called my name, and took me by the hand.
He said my place was ready, in heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from me eye
For all my life, I’d always thought, I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for, so much left yet to do.
It seemed impossible, that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.

If I could relive a yesterday, just for even a while,
I’d say good-bye and kiss you and may be see you smile.
But then I fully realized, that this could never be,
For emptiness and memories, would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things, I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven’s gates, I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me, from his golden throne,

He said, “This is eternity, and all I’ve promised you.”
Today your life on earth is past, but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last,
And since each day’s the same way there’s no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful, so trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn’t do.
But you have been forgiven and now at last you’re free.
So won’t you come and take my hand, and share my life with me?

So if tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart.
For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.

I always be in your heart, Tad. It doesn’t matter what the outcome of this ordeal is our love will last forever. If I don’t make it, our baby will remind you that I’m with you always. I love you, with all of my heart and always will. After Casey left I wasn’t sure how I’d make it through, but then you came along. You were the night in shining armor that returned the light to my life. Our little princess will do the same for you. I know your thinking “princess”, huh? I know deep down inside that this is a little girl inside or me. In her eyes, you’ll see my love. In hers and in Davey’s. I know that you two don’t get along now. She will bring you together. I don’t want to even think about leaving either of you, but it may happen. I need both you and Davey to always remember that you have my love.

Yours always and forever,

Blair

As he read it, he understood. The baby was her gift to him. She knew that she might die, and she wanted to leave him a piece of the two of them. He’d simply had to come to terms with reality, his wife was dying.
It was a cruel reality that he never thought he’d have to accept. He was going to make sure that whatever amount of time was left was nothing but pure joy for Blair. The next several months Tad Warner was going to transform into a true blue prince charming. He would buy roses. He would take her on candlelit beach picnics. He’d paper crepe the whole neighborhood in pink when his daughter came. He’d be in the delivery room holding her hand through it all. He’d hold her in his arms when the time came to say good-bye. He laid his head on his desk and wept. The time to say good-bye, that’s something that he prayed never ever came. He was ready for everything, but losing Blair was more than he could possibly bear to live with. This loss was already killing him. He had gotten married and become a father, and now he was about to have another one. It was his dream to be a family man. Now his dream was ending. He had his son, and was about to have a daughter. He, however, was losing the most important part of the equation. Blair kept his sanity intact. She was the reason that he got up every morning. He was losing his reason to live. He just hoped that it didn’t take long for the angel that was coming to get his beloved Blair to come and get him as well. If she had to leave, so would he. He knew that Edna and the girls would take care of the kids. He just had to wait for the time to come. When the time came, Blair wouldn’t leave alone. He wouldn’t ever allow for that to happen. He and she would be together forever. If fate was destining them to be apart in this life, he would reunite them in the next life. He wept remembering the past, for the present sweetness that had been marred by cancer, and for the future that he and his wife would more than likely not see together. Tad Warner would take destiny into his own hands if that’s what he had to do to avoid losing the love of his life.

The next chapters are going to be between Blair and someone else. The chapters in no particular order will be:

1. Blair and Tad
2. Blair and Davey
3. Blair and Jamie
4. Blair and Tisha
5. Blair and Tootie
6. Blair and Natalie
7. Blair and Mrs. Garrett
8. Blair and her newborn daughter

As you can see some of these chapter's are definetely going to be later. Nat, Tootie, and the baby primarily. The baby will be like a good-bye before Blair's surgery. It will be a Mommy might have to go away, if she does just remember that she loves you and will always be with you even if you can't see her. This chapter is to let you in on what is playing out in Tad's mind. Hope you liked it.

Just in case I missed something. If there are any moments in the realationships that I mentioned before that you feel must be included in Blair's conversations with the others please let me know. I'm not going to post until Friday, so that I have a chance to review the moments that you mention. These moments both the ones that I've thought of and yours will influence the order of the next chapters.

IF you have Best Siter part two watch the "chat" between Blair and MRs.G. and if you have Cousin Geri watch that little "chat" between Blair and Mrs.G. It really has nothing to do with this except that they are GREAT examples of when Mrs.G helped her out.By talking to her.

I write two pages on Microsoft Word per chapter. This means that one page is going to be devoted to a special moment from 1979-1988 and one page for a moment that I'm writing as having happened since the show ended. So, I'll have the next chapter up tomorrow. I know what I think the bonding moment between Blair and each of the characters was, but I haven't seen the "conterversial" episodes. I also may have missed something in the ones I've seen. I'm going to leave one more day for suggestions. Thanks for the input Charlotte Rae Fan. I love your new story; write more soon.

It's going to take a little longer than expected. I reread the chapter and realized that it needed a filler chapter first. It was one of those things where you know what's going on because you wrote it, but anyone who's reading is won't have a clue. I need to write the filler and then do some rewrites to accomodate the filler in the chapter. It'll be up before the weekend is out.

P.S. Part of the trouble is a certain character's return. The character will shake everything up, and I think the readers will be glad to see the character back.

Chapter 11

Jo had spent the entire morning comforting Blair. She had sent everyone out on a mission. They were to get her all of the ingredient’s for her mother’s pizza. It worked out perfectly, Jo had called all of the supermarkets in Peekskill all were out of Artichoke Hearts. Of course, she hadn’t told the others. They would spend hours looking for the Artichoke Hearts, and even longer driving out of town to get them. This insured that she would get some time alone with Blair. The only people left in the inn were her, Blair, Rick, and Davey. The other two had insisted on staying just in case they were needed. Now that she had Blair napping, it was her turn to not be strong. She lay in her husband’s arms and allowed herself to be protected by him.

Rick: Dorothy and Natalie being in the dark probably makes it even harder for you, doesn’t it?

Jo: It makes it a lot harder. I have to be strong all of the time to keep them from figuring everything out.

Rick: I think that if Blair doesn’t want Natalie to know she should at least allow you all to tell Dorothy.

Jo: You do realize that you can call her Tootie right. It helps to keep us on the same wavelength if I don’t have to try to remember who you’re talking about.

Rick: The last time that I called her Tootie, I got my head chewed off about how she’s a woman now not a little girl. I think that Dorothy’s best for now. You, Edna, and the other girls are the only ones still allowed to call her Tootie.

Jo laughs.

Jo: I don’t like my men headless, so I think that you should stick with Dorothy.

Rick: I made you laugh.

Jo: Yeah, I guess you did.

Rick: Good. You can’t keep being strong for everyone if you’re falling apart.

******************************************************************************************

Blair woke up on the couch. She smiled at the memory of the long talk that she had with Jo. The only thing that brought her spirits down was that she was asleep on the couch. She had been so tired that she couldn’t even manage to get up the stairs to go to her bedroom. If it was like this now, what would it be like later? Would she be of any use to her family? Davey came and sat next to her.

Davey: Hey, Mommy.

Blair: Hey, baby.

Davey: Why are you so sad?

Blair: I’m just thinking about the months to come.

Davey lay his head on her shoulder.

Davey: Whatever comes, it’s going to be okay. You, me, the baby, and Dad are going to be fine.

Blair: Thanks, sweetie. It helps so much having you guys by my side. You know I was thinking.

Davey: Yeah?

Blair: Who better to name the baby than its big brother?

Davey: I thought you’d never ask. Her name is going to be Samantha Emiliana Warner, Emily for short not Sami.

Blair: Her?

Davey: I had a dream, it’s a her.

Blair: I like the name, it’s unique.

Davey: I thought Samantha sounded like a nice strong name, and Emiliana is the name of a character in a book who beats cancer. The two of you are going to beat this so I thought it was appropriate.

Blair: It’s absolutely perfect.

Blair and Davey share a warm embrace. It is simply one of those moments where words are completely obsolete because only actions can express the emotions that are being felt. Neither one of the were ready to have the moment interrupted by the doorbell. They separate from their embrace baffled by the rude interruption of their time together. They had been comforting one another to the point where any interruptions what so ever were unwelcome.

Blair: Who could that be?

Blair starts to get up to open the door, but Davey pulled her back to her seat.

Davey: I’ll get it, you just rest.

Davey opened the door and saw a tall man with dark hair look down at him and then into the house at his mother. He had no idea who it was, but the look in his mother’s eyes said that she did.

******************************************************************************************

The man looked down at the boy standing in front of him, and then at Blair. The boy was to close to the age that their baby would have been, it had to be him. So she hadn’t had an abortion like his note and check had asked, and she hadn’t given it up for adoption. She had given birth to and raised his son.

******************************************************************************************

Davey was getting exasperated. Who the heck was this man? Why had his presence left his mother speechless?

Davey: May I help you?

Man: Yes, I’m here to see your mother.

Davey: Mommy, who is this?

Blair: An old friend. Hello, Casey.

Chapter 12

Davey could not believe what was going on. This couldn’t be the Casey. He had never even met his biological father. Casey Clarke here, no it couldn’t be.

Davey: Mommy, is this who I think it is?

******************************************************************************************

Casey Clarke was the last person that Blair had ever planned on seeing again. How in the world was she going to explain to her son that this man was the same man that had walked out on them when she was only three months pregnant?

Blair: This is your biological father.

Casey: Do you think that I could come in? I would like to get to know my son.

Blair: My son and I don’t need or want you, and no you may not come in. You lost your right to get to know him when you ran away from us like a coward. Now do us all a favor and leave.

Casey: Blair, I’m not going anywhere.

******************************************************************************************

Never in his life had Davey been so exasperated. Everyone always left his mom alone, and now that she was sick and in need of tranquility everyone was bugging her. Davey wasn’t about to let this happen. If he had kept his dad from upsetting his mom, he would certainly keep this man from doing so.

Davey: May be you didn’t hear my mother, she asked you to leave. I have a dad and I have a mom. His name is Tad Warner not Casey Clarke. Now please turn around and leave.

Casey: Fine, I’ll leave. However I’m going to leave my phone number, just in case you decide that you’re willing to talk to me.

Casey hands Davey a card with the phone number to his hotel, and then turns around and leave.

Davey sees that his mom doesn’t look to good.

Davey: Mommy, are you okay?

Blair: Yes baby, I’m fine. Why don’t you go upstairs and play that new video game I got you?

Davey: Okay Mommy. I love you.

Blair: I love you too.

Davey goes upstairs, but instead of going straight to his computer he went straight to his aunt.

******************************************************************************************

Jo and Rick heard a light knock on their bedroom door.

Jo: Who is it?

Davey: It’s just me.

Jo: Come on in.

Davey opened the door and entered the room.

Davey: Aunt Jo, I think you should go talk to my mom.

Jo: Why? What’s going on?

Davey: We just had company, and I think that she’s kind of upset.

Jo: Who was it?

Davey: Casey.

Jo automatically understood the significance of the visit.

Jo: Rick, I’ll be back. I need to talk to Blair, as a matter-of-fact why don’t you take Davey out for a video. We can watch it with the pizza.

Rick: Sure, hon.

Rick and Davey left, leaving Jo with the opportunity that she needed to talk alone with Blair. She walked up to the couch.

Jo: Move over, Warner.

Blair shifted so that Jo could sit down.

Jo: So, do you want to talk about it?

Blair: Not really.

Jo: Well, I want to hear it.

Blair: The last time that I saw that man he was dropping off at the house with a promise that we’d go baby furniture shopping the next day.

Jo: And then?

Blair: The next day there was an envelope under the door. It had a check and a note saying that, that should cover the expenses of “dealing” with the baby. It said that he wasn’t ready for a baby and he didn’t think that I was either.

Jo: I can’t believe he had the nerve to treat you like that.

Blair: He did. Beverly Ann called Mrs. Garrett as soon as she found me crying hysterically in the living room. Two weeks later Mrs. Garrett had done all the paper work necessary for her and Bruce to resign from the Peace Corps. and she and Bruce were back here. Six months later she was holding my hand as a gave birth to a perfect baby boy.

Jo: In the end Casey got what he deserved. It feels good to see him paying for the pain he caused. Davey is a wonderful boy. He adores you and thinks that you hung the stars, the moon, and the stars; and only refers to Casey as Casey.

I'm sorry guys. My first week as a sixteen year old has been kind of hectic(Progress Reports came out). I'll have a chapter of each story up soon. "Labor of Love" late tonight or early tomorrow, and "The Fact of Life" tomorrow, if I finish my homework; if not it'll be up Monday.

I worked out all of the kinks in "Labor of Love" so chapter five is up. Surprise 2, a.k.a "The Fact of Life" next chapter will be de-kinked soon. By the eighteenth to be exact. Right now I'm getting ready for Mariachi competion. It's on Friday which all of you who compete in extracurriculars know means, work really hard to get everything down in time. Just wanted to let you know that it's written I just haven't had time to sit and fix all the little kinks that I've found(no chapter is ever 100% kink free, but I'm going to try).

Okay, before posting I'm going to clear up a few story details.

1) Casey hasn't been forgotten. When I get back to Davey, you'll see Casey again.

2) Blair is going to realize that Natalie knew all along in the next chapter.

I think that covers it, if you find anymore little details, please let me know.

Chapter 13

Six Months Later:

Jo was getting scared, she’d just received a call from Tad. He thought that it would be a good idea for her to come to Peekskill. Blair didn’t have much time left, and telling Natalie was no longer avoidable. Of course, she was going to go. She told him that she would call Tootie, Mrs. G., and Natalie. She was going to avoid telling Natalie anything, that was up to Blair to do. When she called about the impromptu get together they immediately agreed to go to Peekskill, as soon as she picked up the girls, they and their families would head to the airport where the Warner jet was waiting for them.

******************************************************************************************

Blair couldn’t figure out how she was going to break the news to Natalie. The only part that she had figured out was that Tad was going to have to set her up on the living room couch. She was not about to have Natalie find out by finding her in her bed looking like death warmed over.

******************************************************************************************

Jo was never happier to see Peekskill than when the jet landed. Natalie had spent the entire flight pumping her for information on Blair’s sudden desire for another get together. She rang the doorbell and waited for them to be let in.

Tad: Coming.

Tad opened the door for Jo, Tootie, Natalie and Edna. As soon as the door opened Jo knew that coming back to Peekskill was the right thing to do. She hadn’t wanted to believe Tad, but there was no escaping the fact that Blair’s time was running out. She felt little arms wrap around her, and had to try very hard not to cry. She knew that Blair had also sensed Jamie’s sad little presence.

Blair: Hi guys. Jamie why don’t you come give me a hug?

Jo watched as her daughter slowly walked and then ran into her aunt’s waiting arms. Blair spoke to all present as she lovingly rubbed Jamie’s trembling back.

Blair: Well, I was going to wait to talk to you guys, but I think that now seems to be the time. This little one isn’t going to let me put this off much longer, and that’s a good thing. If keeping everything in is
doing this to her and she gets to separate herself from it, I can’t imagine what it’s doing to Davey and Tad who have to face it every single day.

Edna: Blair, sweetie. Don’t ware yourself out, take everything at your own pace.

Blair: Mrs. Garrett, I have to do this and I have to do it now. Guys, sit down. Let me start by saying that I’m sorry to Tootie and Natalie. In trying to protect you, I’ve made what I have to do today even more cruel for both of you.

Edna: What are you talking about?

Blair: Edna, I received bad news at my last appointment.

******************************************************************************************

Edna’s heart jumped into her throat. Blair had once again referred to her as Edna. She didn’t know if her heart could take whatever was going to come out of Blair’s mouth.

******************************************************************************************

Blair was feeling physically ill, at the thought of once again turning Mrs. Garrett’s world upside down. Unfortunately, there weren’t many alternatives.

Tisha: What kind of bad news Aunt Blair?

Blair swallowed hard.

Blair: Honey, before I can answer that I have to let you, your mom, and your Aunt Natalie in on everything that’s been happening for the last six months. Six months ago, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I was supposed to undergo a hysterectomy, but then the baby came along. I chose to have the baby instead of having an abortion. The problem is that the doctor says that the pregnancy has severely advanced the progress of my cancer. In six weeks, after the baby comes, I’ll have the surgery and follow it up with chemo and radiation, but that isn’t likely to work. The doctor says that there are no
two ways about it, there is slim to no chance of me making it through this disease.

Natalie felt like something deep down inside of her was about to pop.

Natalie: You’re wrong. We’ll get a second opinion, a third if necessary. I asked my dad and he told me that there are daily advances in cancer research. One of them is going to be the one that saves your life.

Blair could sense Natalie’s upcoming reaction.

Blair: Jo, why don’t you take Jamie upstairs? Tootie, Mrs. Garrett, Tisha your rooms are ready, so why don’t you go with Jo and Jamie.

Jo: Will do.

Jo took her little girl up in her arms. Jamie may be eleven, but right now all Jo was seeing was her baby in pain. Mrs. Garrett and Tootie knew what she was feeling. Tootie had to try and explain death to Tisha, and Mrs. Garrett had to witness one of her girls slowly leaving and her other girls experience that departure.

Blair watched as the tears began to fall down Natalie’s face.

Blair: Nat, hon, there’s nothing that can be done. It’s in God’s hands now.

Natalie: NO! YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVEN’T LISTENED TO ME. YOU AREN’T GOING TO DIE, YOU JUST AREN’T DO YOU HEAR ME BLAIR NICOLE WARNER WARNER! YOU’VE GOT ONE THING RIGHT, IT’S IN GOD’S HANDS, AND HE WON’T LET YOU DIE.

Blair: Come here baby.

Natalie went into her arms in tear-filled obedience. Blair just held her as she cried. She held her as she had held Jamie, Tad, and Mrs. Garrett. She held her as she had always held her baby boy.

Blair’s heart was breaking, as Natalie lay against her crying. She felt like recently the only things that she was causing her loved ones were pain and tears.

Natalie: Blair?

Blair: Yes, baby.

Natalie: Why is this happening?

Blair: I wish I knew, sweetie. I wish I knew.

Natalie: Blair, there’s something that you need to know.

Blair: What is it?

Natalie: Tootie and I have known about the cancer for the last six months.

Blair looked down at her in disbelief.

Blair: What?

Natalie: We’ve known for six months, we just didn’t know that it had gotten this bad.

Blair: How did you guys find out?

Natalie: The day that you found out about the baby, I walked into your room and saw the syringe. I called out for Tootie, and she and Tisha went up to the room. Tisha told us the truth right then and there, apparently she had overheard Davey telling Jamie what was going on.

Blair: Why didn’t you guys tell me that you knew?

Natalie: We decided that it was obviously important to you that we not know. Please, don’t be mad at us.

By now Blair had tears streaming down her face.

Blair: Of course, I’m not mad at you guys. I’m just really, really sorry that you’ve had to deal with this by yourselves.

Natalie: Well, I haven’t had to deal with this completely alone.

Blair: Oh really.

Natalie: I’ve had a couple of good friends to lean on, namely Robert and Harper. Robert has especially been there for me, I don’t know what I would have done without him. He’s been my rock, I just feel so safe when he holds me.

Blair: That’s right with everything that’s been going on, we have completely forgotten to go about choosing you a husband; although, it seems to me like your pretty close to making a choice all by yourself.

Natalie: Yes, yes I am.

Blair: If he’s the one you love, then he’s the one that you should marry.

Natalie: I do love him.

Blair: Then what are you waiting for, marry him.

Natalie: Will you be there?

Blair: I wouldn’t miss it for anything in this world.

Natalie: Promise?

Blair: I promise.

Natalie: I’m going to hold you to that.

Blair: You better. I have every intention of being there and of dancing with Tad at your reception.

Natalie: Really?

Blair: Really.

Natalie: Blair, it wouldn’t be the same without you.

Blair: I know sweetie, and that’s why I’m going to be there no matter what may happen.

Natalie: Thanks.

Blair: No need for thanks, it’s going to be my honor to dance at my baby sister’s wedding. Now it’s time for you to promise.

Natalie: Anything.

Blair: Two things. First that Roberts a good man, who is going to treat you like you deserve. Second, I want you to promise me that you’ll be happy.

Natalie: I promise.

Blair: Good.

Natalie: Blair?

Blair: Yes?

Natalie: Promise me one more thing.

Blair: What?

Natalie: Promise me that you aren’t going to die.

Blair: I wish I could, I really do.

Okay, I finally got some time to sit and write. I hope you guys like this chapter. I've decided to add a little something extra.
You decide: Does Blair succumb to her cancer, or does the treatment work?

(This is for the end which is still a ways off.)

I think that the treatment should work. Blair should live.
