View Full Version : Am I the only one on this board who expects everyone to have internet access at home?
TVFactFan 11-13-2007, 12:04 AM When I met someone and they tell me-" No I don't have web access at home" I put it in the same category as-"I don't have cable"
LOL.
When someone tells me they don't I always say to myself-"WHY?
Ireneparalegal 11-13-2007, 12:04 AM What do they tell you when you ask WHY?
TVFactFan 11-13-2007, 12:06 AM What do they tell you when you ask WHY?
Several Lies. To think of some off the top of my head
"My computer has a Virus"
"Something is wrong with the wire in back of my computer"
My computer needs to be repaired"
LOL

So, they have a computer, they just don't have access. I thought you were implying people who don't have computers PERIOD.
It costs money to get computers repaired. It took me over six months to finally get my CD player fixed on mine.

Some people for some reason just don't want to come out and say-"I don't have a computer" If you don't have a computer you don't have one but don't give me that VIRUS line-lol

Why? Remember that thread you made abt unplanned purchases...well, someone could have their computer crash, get a virus or have some problem and they don't have the money to go get it fixed. My computer guy charges me $65 per hour. When I finally had my CD player fixed a month ago (after six months of it being broken) it cost me $130 for two hours labor. That was no big deal to me, but I didn't take it in sooner because he had my computer for two days and I didn't want to be without it. To some people, $65 may be their food money, bill money, gas money, etc. You just finished complaining abt $2 chapstick...so don't you think someone can't afford to get their computer fixed?

Yeah Irene but if I'm getting the Virus line from 10 people, ONE of them has to be lying-lol
BTW: my DVD player died on saturday and I had to make another unplanned purchase-lol
Mr. Television 11-13-2007, 12:20 AM My computer finally broke down last summer and I thought I was probably going to be without one for quite awhile. I got this one at a used computer store for $50 and it works better than my last one.

Don't you hate unplanned purchases around the holidays???   sorry abt that!
I guess all those people can't just say they don't have the money. You'd be surprised at how many people can deal without their computers. I KNOW I CAN'T.

Since I have had internet access in 2002, I can no longer live without it in my apt. It's on the same level as cable, I NEED BOTH IN MY LIFE-lol
Ireneparalegal 11-13-2007, 12:37 AM Since I have had internet access in 2002, I can no longer live without it in my apt. It's on the same level as cable, I NEED BOTH IN MY LIFE-lol
Same here. I have never been without access...but I have been without my computer. Some people can't afford it or don't have the need to have their computer like us.
Mr. Television 11-13-2007, 01:01 AM Some people can take it or leave it. My sister has been without it for a few years. She's just getting the internet back now. She never missed it . I never even owned a computer until 2000. Now I am completely hooked and don't remember what I did before the internet. lol
OH Nuts! 11-13-2007, 01:05 AM I couldn't live w/o the Internet. It's like an electronic genie. And I don't have to buy newspapers anymore, and I can send e-holiday cards no more snail mail. I have Road Runner...so my internet comes up fast and easy--beep beep!! It's a little pricey $60 a month but worth it to me for the convenience.
Unfortunely, some are not able to fix an electronic item that breaks. I am grateful I can pay to replace something damaged fairly quickly.

The TV is the Hearbeat of my APT
The Internet and Cable is the Blood Flow of my Apt
LOL
OH Nuts! 11-13-2007, 01:26 AM When I think of all the VAST amts of info I get from the Internet, how much I save not buying newspaers and sending out snail mail, what I spend on having the Internet is well worth every penny. And you can pay bills quickly too.

I agree, but my web fee is only $21.95 a month-lol I been lucky because it has not gone up since 2002 so if it does I can't complain
Buffyboy323 11-13-2007, 09:18 AM The TV is the Hearbeat of my APT

Solomon: Best. Line. Ever.
I agree (except I barely watch cable anymore, so the DVD player is the blood flow of my house). And I wouldn't be comfortable saying that to many outside of this board, but since you all love TV as much than I do, it's alright. ;)
I actually know people who don't own a TV (and some of them are wealthy too!). Or they have a TV, just sitting there, collecting dust. The best is when people tell me they don't watch TV....In my head I'm yelling "WHAAAT!?"

When I was still living with my mom, the water heater broke about a week before Christmas in 2004. $800. That was a FABULOUS Christmas, lemme tell you. :faint:
SBTB Geek 11-13-2007, 04:41 PM I went to a library in the not-so-great area of the city and I was confused as to why that library had a ridiculous number of computers (about 30,) while the one closer to my home only has 10. It took me a while to realize why.
PZelda 11-13-2007, 04:52 PM I haven't had cable TV at home since August, and the only thing I really miss is watching Dr. 90210 and Miami Ink/LA Ink, but that's it. I've been able to live without cable TV, and I'm just fine with that since I have never been one for current TV to start with. And what with the WGA strike and all... *shrug*
EmoJoe 11-13-2007, 06:09 PM i actually know someone who doesnt and has never had a computer. i dont know how they survive tbh :(
TVFactFan 11-13-2007, 07:17 PM I went to a library in the not-so-great area of the city and I was confused as to why that library had a ridiculous number of computers (about 30,) while the one closer to my home only has 10. It took me a while to realize why.
I think in the Library you only get a certain amount of time to use a computer

Why? LOL
Ireneparalegal 11-14-2007, 12:15 AM I think SBTB Geek is stating that in the poorer areas of their town, people can't afford internet/computer...whereas in the better area of town, people there have their own computers at home, laptops, etc.
Buffyboy323 11-14-2007, 12:16 AM I think in the Library you only get a certain amount of time to use a computer
Yeah, I think only about 20 or 30 minutes...
I know someone that goes to an internet cafe around here. It's $1 for 6 minutes!

Oh yeah!....That makes sense. ;)

Geez. When I went to the UK a few years ago, the hotel I stayed in (London, England) had a computer but they charged you to use it. £1 for... ummm... I think 10 minutes of usage? (that's $2+USD, btw)
Mr. Television 11-14-2007, 12:28 AM Yeah, I think only about 20 or 30 minutes...

When my old computer broke down a few times I went to an internet cafe that's just downtown and it cost me $5 for 30 minutes.

Hell, tell them to give it to me. No more having to choose what to watch on certain nights.
I have a love/hate relationship with my computer... mostly hate. lol
Buffyboy323 11-14-2007, 01:04 AM When my old computer broke down a few times I went to an internet cafe that's just downtown and it cost me $5 for 30 minutes.
That sounds about right. The one around here charges $5 for 33 minutes. If it's after 10pm or before 11am, you get double the time for whatever price you put in.
Buffyboy323 11-14-2007, 01:11 AM Hell, tell them to give it to me. No more having to choose what to watch on certain nights.

I have a mostly hate relationship with my internet connection.
Ireneparalegal 11-14-2007, 11:38 AM My hate relationship applies to the bill I pay for my access to internet.
TVFactFan 11-14-2007, 07:21 PM My hate relationship applies to the bill I pay for my access to internet.
$21.95 for MSN-lol What do u pay???
Ireneparalegal 11-14-2007, 07:25 PM $21.99 monthly through my cable provider.
TVFactFan 11-14-2007, 07:37 PM $21.99 monthly through my cable provider.
so why is that a problem??
Ireneparalegal 11-14-2007, 07:40 PM It's not, it's just another bill. I hate bills. I have a hate relationship with ALL MY BILLS.
Brieannas21 11-14-2007, 07:40 PM My hate relationship applies to the bill I pay for my access to internet.
Same here and they just raised my bill.

That's why I don't have a cell phone, because I don't need another bill-lol
Ireneparalegal 11-14-2007, 07:46 PM I used to have a cell phone, but I hated being interrupted for petty stuff. I like being in the world without a phone stuck to my ear.
Buffyboy323 11-14-2007, 09:15 PM That's why I don't have a cell phone, because I don't need another bill-lol
And you thought being without a home computer was weird!?
TVFactFan 11-14-2007, 09:41 PM And you thought being without a home computer was weird!?
It's not that weird because I wouldn't have anyone to call. I'm not spending $50.00 a month to talk to my mother
Buffyboy323 11-14-2007, 09:57 PM It's not that weird because I wouldn't have anyone to call. I'm not spending $50.00 a month to talk to my mother
Oh, no. I understand what you mean. I just assumed everyone had a cell phone in this day and age. But you know what they say about people that ASSUME....LOL
What I find weird is when 11 year olds carry them around. I mean really, who are they talking to!?
