which shows- be it sitcoms, dramas for eg, which ran for say more than 5 seasons, should've came to a halt much sooner and at what point in the series should the show have finished?

I say Friends ran a couple years too long. Will & Grace... pretty much the majority of the last half of that run I never cared for. The quality IMO really went downhill.

"FRIENDS" went on to long, it should have ended when Monica and Chandler got married. "FRASIER" should have ended when Niles and Daphne got together. "ALL IN THE FAMILY" should have ended when Mike and Gloria left for California.

Friends should've ended in 2000 or 2001, 2002 at the latest. The last two seasons weren't the best and people pretty much stuck around out of habit

The Facts Of Life - Should have ended after Season 7. Though the 8th season was an improvement, I could have done without the 9th.

Family Matters - Though I really liked the 9th season, the show should have ended after it's 7th. It would have been much better if they made Laura get her crush on Steve in season 7, then ended the show at the end of that year.

Frasier - I'm torn with this one. I would say it probably should have ended after Season 9, because Seasons 8 and 9 were the weakest of the whole show. But then Seasons 10 and 11 came, and they were great.

Friends - Should have ended after season 9. I didn't love the last 2 seasons, but I wouldn't have wanted the show to end with Rachel giving birth. I wanted to see at least 1 of them have a kid before the show was over (and actually be a parent to the kid).

Laverne & Shirley - Should have ended after season 7. There was no reason to continue a show with one of the title characters gone (especially when she was my favorite!). I forgive them for the season 7 move to California, but not for going on without "Shirl."

Married...With Children - Went on for 2 seasons too long.

That 70's Show - The 6th season was the last really good one. I could have gone on without Season 7, but it was still tolerable. The last season should not have happened. No Topher, no show.

Will & Grace - Should have ended after Season 7 (only because things picked up half way through that year). The show was tired during the 5th and 6th seasons.

Ally McBeal - Should have ended after Season 4, 5 at least.The last two seasons (though they did have their moments) were pretty weak. They should have never killed Billy, or given Ally a kid. And once Cage and Ling left, you had to know it was going to go downhill...

Beverly Hills 90210 - Should have ended after Season 8.

Charmed - It should have ended after Season 6, 7 at least.

7th Heaven - It should have ended after Season 8, 9 at least.

The X-Files - Should have ended after Season 7. I haven't watched the show too much since it was originally on, but from what I remember - the show really went down the tube after Mulder left. Usually I don't mind cast changes, as long as their done well. The first season with the new Agents wasn't too bad. But the last season with the new Agents wasn't very good. And when they attempted to wrap up all the loose ends, I found that it made very little sense.

That one is another that I'm torn about. The 7th season was when the show started showing it's age, and was pretty boring (especially since the previous year was so great). But I do think the 8th was an improvement. And I'm one of those rare fans that loved the last season. So I'm not really sure if I would have ended it after the 7th, 8th, or 9th season...I probably would have kept it going through the 9th season though.

Once Phil Hartman left, I quit watching it regularly. Even though Will Ferrell was funny on the show, I could have done with 'SNL' ending after the 1993-94 season.

And yet, I find it hard that they continued once Lorne Michaels (along with the rest of the original cast) left back in 1980.

But in my mind the two great eras are done with (1975-80 & 1986-94).

I'll second that amen.....SNL is probably the only show in history that has gone 25 seasons past where it should have ended!
Just because YOU dislike a show doesn't mean it should have ended. We all have our opinions, of course - but you should have actually enjoyed some of the show to determine where it should have stopped.

I only saw "Best Of" moments from the "Classic" eras of SNL. I'm sure they were great. I grew up watching the Tina Fey/Molly Shannen/Will Ferrell/Jimmy Fallon/Chris Kattan/Chris Parnell/Tracy Morgan/Rachel Dratch/Dana Carvey/Amy Poehler, etc. cast's (mid/late 1990's-2002 or so).

I agree. I watched SNL back in the late 80s-early 90s when it was funny. Now it's just painful.

Amen to that statement as well. :lol: I watched when Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy were on there during their tenures, I will admit, depending what guest star appeared, I watched it JUST FOR THAT MOMENT, but as for watching the WHOLE SHOW that has been a very very very long time. Probably 25 years as you stated. :lol:

Family Matters: They should have ended that show with the last episode of the 7th season, when Laura kissed Stephan and Steve kissed Myra. I hate the very idea of Steve and Laura as a couple.

The OC: I actually liked this show, but it just went on too damn long. I was getting tired of seeing the couples breaking up and getting back together, just so there would be storylines. That show should have ended after two seasons at most.

The Jeffersons. By at least three seasons. The S11 debut where Lionel and Jenny divorce was excruciating to watch.

All In The Family. The last season with annoying Stephanie introduced was bad enough, but continuing another four years in the dopey Archie Bunker's Place format was even worse.

I wholeheartedly agreed about the Jeffersons. I like Mike Evans and Berlinda Tolbert together. They were compatible and the chemistry between was good. It was unfortunate that Norman Lear had to go to that measure to get a storyline.

Roseanne: should have stopped after the Conners won the lottery. After that, money made people turned on becasue the girls got preggers one after the other.
As bad as I hate to say it, All in the Family. After Mike and Gloria left, it wasn't the same. :( I didn't mind Stephanie, but it wasn't a laugh-a-minute deal like it was with Sally and Rob.

And notice how in the last season of AITF, storylines just reek of gimmickry. Like having new black neighbors move into the Jefferson/Mike and Gloria house next door. Or having Stephanie be revealed as Jewish. All of those are just of the "how can we find ways to probe Archie's bigotry in new ways" variety and don't stem from any kind of realistic undercurrent which supposedly is what made AITF so great to begin with.

The 7th and 8th seasons of The Facts Of Life were good. I don't think they were terrific though.

And from what I remember, The X-Files' 6th and 7th seasons were good too. I say maybe the show should have ended after the 7th season because that's when it was clear that they did as much as they could. The show was showing it's age. There weren't THAT many memorable moments and episodes during the last 3 seasons. I really should watch the whole show again.
