View Full Version : Welcome Back Janice: The Janice Appreciation Thread
Mr. Television 11-10-2007, 09:32 PM Janice has given me permission to make this thread. Members have had Appreciation threads for years, and if anyone deserves one now, it's Janice. I don't want this thread to be about why she left. That shouldn't be discussed on the boards. Instead this thread should be about Janice...the person...who made SO a pleasure to come too all these years.
She is a good friend and one of the nicest people I ever met. Anyone who had any problems could go to her with issues and she would try to help them out. Until I started talking with Janice regularly I never realized how much time and devotion she gave to SO. I frankly couldn't do it. SO won't be the same without her. :(
Ireneparalegal 11-10-2007, 09:36 PM This place has not been the same since Janice has left. I know she has not been feeling well, but overall, she was much appreciated around here and she had to deal with people blasting her on the board, calling her names, she had to deal with petty arguments, deal with trolls, etc. I miss her around these parts and I made sure she knew how much she was appreciated for the times she helped out with certain issues on the board. Believe me, I wouldn't want to have dealt with the stuff Janice had to put up with on this board. I never realized how much of herself she put into this board until she and I began to PM each other. Sometimes you give so much of yourself and you feel like you are not appreciated.
MISS YOU JANICE :( ...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!
Brian Damage 11-10-2007, 09:59 PM As you know, Janice is my best online friend. A part of SO died when she left. She was the heart and soul of Chit Chat. She is the only person who should be qualified to make birthday threads.
Hollow 11-10-2007, 10:03 PM bloop hehe
LuLu Rogers 11-10-2007, 10:26 PM Janice is a very kind person and so easy to talk to. I will most definately miss her. :(
qwerty 11-10-2007, 10:32 PM She is the only person who should be qualified to make birthday threads.
She also did a great job with the weekend chat threads. Even though I mostly lurk here I was able to tell she put a lot of time into SO and she will be missed here. She must have great respect around here because from reading other threads several of you know why she is not here now but regard her privacy enough not to post it online.
PZelda 11-10-2007, 10:49 PM she's definitely one of the most respectful, caring, patient, and thoughtful people i've ever known. i couldn't have ever put up with as much garbage from people on this board as she did. she'll be missed a lot.
Agreed.
Let's not forget who was the one to help us with names for the Secret Santa exchange when we decided to start it up in 2004 -- Janice. We entrusted her with things we wouldn't give out to other members. I dunno about you guys, but it's a big thing to do that, and she was (and is) a trustworthy person.
I mean, sure, I've had my share of problems with her over the years. But we always resolved 'em and moved on. I remember a few years ago when she was having a problem with a member that I had also had problems with in the past, she would vent to me about it and I'd offer her insight (and stories). I know she definitely felt better knowing she wasn't alone.
I hope she decides to come back soon - I go by the line of thought "If you leave or back down, you are just letting the other party win." I know she's not that kind of person who gives up.
Brian Damage 11-10-2007, 10:50 PM She also did a great job with the weekend chat threads. Even though I mostly lurk here I was able to tell she put a lot of time into SO and she will be missed here. She must have great respect around here because from reading other threads several of you know why she is not here now but regard her privacy enough not to post it online.
Not only birthday threads and Weekend Chat threads, but she also helped organize secret santa's during the holidays, organized CC, made joke threads, moderated politics, she really cared about everything she did for sitcoms online.
Skywalker 11-10-2007, 10:53 PM Janice was without a doubt the best moderator this board has ever had. I don't know her all that well like most of you do unfortunately, but people have always said that she was one of the nicest people around and from the few times I had talked to her, I could see that. :) She always took the time to start birthday threads and she was someone you could talk to if you had a problem. She will be missed and SO will never be the same without her. :(
Ireneparalegal 11-10-2007, 10:54 PM She also helped out when I felt there was something fishy going on around these boards. She would check things out for me and clarify whether my intuition was right abt certain posters who were here to only cause trouble.
She shared so much of her personal life with me and we shared so much in common. She made me laugh and she made me cry several times. We had our fights, our debates, our disagreements, but all in all, we were adult enough to put those things aside and not let things get in the way of friendship.
MsOrange 11-10-2007, 10:54 PM I've been gone for quite a while, and only back part of the time due to some personal stuff... but could someone PM me and tell me what happened to Janice (so as not to stir up anything...)
Anyway, Janice is an awesome person... I'll always remember us going from hating each other, to being great online buddies. That's just the kind of person she was; her personality could easily take someone from hating her to loving her. She is one classy lady.
catlover79 11-10-2007, 11:12 PM I only have one thing to say to Janice - the glue of SO:
:yourock:
HuntingtonM15 11-10-2007, 11:18 PM I agree with everyone else. SO is just not SO without Janice. I hope she's doing well and will return someday.
EmoJoe 11-10-2007, 11:26 PM i cant believe Janice has left :( i know we've had our disagreements in the past but Janice was/is truly an awesome mod and she's an even better person. i've been mostly lurking here lately so i dont really know what happened, but i've already noticed a change. this board will be really different without her. :/ hopefully she decides to come back sometime.
Stormtracker TF 11-10-2007, 11:28 PM You were the last good thing about this part of town.
*InThisMoment* 11-10-2007, 11:30 PM I don't know the situation or what happened to make Janice leave but I think she was a HUGE part of SO and a very sweet person. I haven't been around much lately, but it definitely won't be the same without her here at SO anymore. I hope one day she can return. If not, we'll miss ya, Janice. :( I hope you know how appreciated you were.
Brian Damage 11-10-2007, 11:34 PM Agreed.

There are certain things that wound a person so bad that they can't move beyond, no matter how hard they try. When you help someone for years, literally devote yourself to helping them and their cause, and they have a public hanging with you on the rope, how does a person move beyond that? Without so much as a decent apology. There are some things that are just too hurtful, disrespectful and done with such a cruel lack of gratitude. That type of betrayal strikes at a person's heart. It's also hard to forgive someone when they haven't asked for your forgiveness. It's very sad. Janice deserved better.
Cactus Jack 11-10-2007, 11:34 PM Yeah we had our disagreements in the past , but I do hope she comes back soon, I ditto what everyone said. If ya dont return, we'll miss ya :(
Buffyboy323 11-11-2007, 12:15 AM I know Janice spent a lot of time in the Chit Chat section of the boards. I didn't really acknowledge this section until about a year or so ago - so she and I hardly had any discussions. All I really knew about her was that she was a very popular member and that she was one of the top moderators here...Then a few months ago we started crossing paths in some Chit Chat discussions, the Other Shows forum, but the most I talked to her was on the "Back To You" board - airing Wednesdays on FOX. ;)
We hit it off well on that board - in several discussions. She had interesting things to say. And you can tell she put actual thought into her posts. It was a blast having those talks - and those that were there know they were some memorable ones.
About a week or two ago, I realized she wasn't posting - which might explain some of the quietness around here. The mood certainly has changed. Janice is clearly a very respected person here, and a good friend to many of you. I wish her nothing but the best. Hopefully the situation (whatever it may be) will be resolved soon, and she'll be here hanging out with all of us again.
TVFactFan 11-11-2007, 12:17 AM Well this is sad to hear. I noticed that I seen less and less of her and was expecting to see her post any day now but it never happened. Very sad to see someone go who was here when I first joined 5 years ago and now a lot of excitement has been sucked out this board. Janice has been a great friend to me for 5 years and this will be very tough for me to deal with. I never got over one of my friends leaving this site 3 years ago and now for another friend to leave just makes this site hard to come to. I hope she returns before the end of the year but if not I hope she atleast stays in contact with me because if not that would really hurt. Hearing Janice leaving this site just adds to what a BAD YEAR this has been for me. I'm so ready for this year to end I don't what to do.

*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-11-2007, 12:34 AM This is enough to make me post after about two months. I know I had a little disagreement with her before I left and if I hurt her feelings I never meant to. I hope I had nothing to do with this. I left because I just wasn't happy here anymore, but I never meant to upset anyone.

Mr. Television 11-11-2007, 12:48 AM When my father was in the hospital last summer Janice was there for me. She listened and really cared. She's always been a great friend who takes time out to be there for you. She is the best. :)
Courtnee 11-11-2007, 01:16 AM Could someone tell me what's going on?
Number 9 Dream 11-11-2007, 01:16 AM I am really sorry Janice is gone now :( I always remember her starting the birthday threads and lending a sympathetic ear to anyone who needed it. That was really sweet of her to do. Chit Chat is just not the same without her.
I hope you feel better, Janice! :bighug:
Nighthawk76 11-11-2007, 01:20 AM I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said except that Janice was the heart and soul of the Chit Chat board. She went all out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and part of the family. When ever there was a problem here, Janice was the one person who would always listen. She will be greatly missed.
Ireneparalegal 11-11-2007, 01:46 AM she also sent me a cute christmas card in the mail two years ago. it was a really thoughtful thing to do, i sent her a PM and thanked her. i still have the card, in fact i just took it out and looked at it again.
She sent me cards as well. It was nice to open my email and see something Janice sent me. Whether it was a "How are you?" or a funny email with a funny pic...she just knew how to make my day. I remember receiving a Mother's Day card. How sweet. I still have all of those saved.
I think what I cherish most is how she opened up to me with such private information and that made me comfortable to open up myself to her. It was great to vent to her or just chat.
I felt honored when she confided in me with certain issues and it really made me feel special.
Dean Winchester 11-11-2007, 02:04 AM What has been going on with Janice? We had our ups and downs but I loved seeing her around when I came back and we'd made up for the past. I noticed she hadn't posted much lately. What's going on?
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-11-2007, 02:23 AM This is enough to make me post after about two months. I know I had a little disagreement with her before I left and if I hurt her feelings I never meant to. and to anyone who's in contact with Janice, tell her I say hi (that we all do)...I'm sorta back and I'm sorry for the disagreement we had before I left.
and this is for her too :p

Dr. John Becker 11-11-2007, 02:57 AM This is very sad. I haven't been able to post here as much as I used to, so I didn't know Janice had left. What a terrible day for this site.:(

I didn't realize it, either.
Janice will be missed. :(
She has sent me several cards by "regular" mail and quite a few emails.

:yeahthat Much love to you Janice! ;)
theshark8777 11-11-2007, 11:18 AM We've all had our breaks from here, sometimes it just gets to us.
Hopefully, like all of us, Janice will return too! We had our differences in the past, but she was always there to help when I needed it.
coffield3 11-11-2007, 12:04 PM Why exactly has she left?
Penny Lane 11-11-2007, 12:37 PM The time and energy that she spent on this board is amazing! As was stated previously, it's just not the same without her! She is truly missed! Take care Janice and thanks!

Sonny, I am very sorry to hear about Janice leaving. I'll never forget how helpful and kind Janice, you, Irene TJ and Brian were to me when I first started to get active on SO and was dealing with a menacing poster on the O & H bd. All of you intervened and allowed me to become a real part of the forums. I was just starting to get to know Janice. I sent her a p.m. a few days ago but I didn't know abt her leaving then. If you stay in touch with her, pls. give her my warmest regards. The bd will surely not be the same w/o her. She has a deep heart and really cares abt others. I'll miss her deeply.
I'm also sorry to hear Janice is leaving. Maybe after a little break, she'll feel like returning. I really enjoyed reading her posts. And I hope everything works out well for her.
bandito 11-11-2007, 01:33 PM It's a shame Janice left. She did a great job as Mod also helping ppl out. :(

Hopefully, like all of us, Janice will return too! We had our differences in the past, but she was always there to help when I needed it.
I agree. Sometimes it is best to walk away from here and stay away from awhile. Tempers seem to flare among people here A LOT. Perhaps the boldness of not being face to face.
Anyway, we don't really agree a whole lot, imo, but we've had some fun times with spammers and she's dedicated to a bunch of people she's never met. That takes a special personality many people don't have. :)
Dr. John Becker 11-11-2007, 09:05 PM Janice used to PM me periodically and ask about my daughter. That always meant alot. She was more then a mod, IMO.
Dutabi84 11-11-2007, 09:26 PM Definitely feels like there's something missing without Janice around. I noticed she isn't listed as a moderator; hopefully she'll come back at least as a regular poster again.
Janice has been a friend of mine on Sitcoms Online for the last five years. She has counseled me through some pretty rough times, and shown me Christlike forgiveness other times when I said rotten things about her on other forums after being called out for acting like a spoiled child all over these boards.
She genuinely cares what's going on in my life and always expresses gladness when I return to the board after a prolonged absence. I'm sure I'm not the only one who receives this kind of kindness from Janice.
I love going to Sitcoms Online and finding out that I have a private message from Janice asking me how I am, how my family is, how I'm doing with my illness; etc.
This board has been blessed the last six years to have someone like Janice as a regular. It's certainly not the same without her around here. Frankly, chit chat is kind of... boring.
Finding a person as genuinely loving and caring as Janice is a hard task. She's a very classy person.
It is clear by this thread and from what I've heard privately, she is liked and respected by many here. Even those that had agreements with her in the past have wondered where she went and wished that she would come back. One of the nice things about Janice is that she is a very forgiving person. Also, if you treat her with respect she will treat you the same way.
Janice is an important part of this community and irreplaceable in so many ways. Sometimes I forget how much she brings to the site. She goes way beyond what I would ask of any moderator. The birthday threads, weekend chat, welcoming of new members, motherly advice.. she really does it all. If you want to know how devoted she is to this site, she has gotten out of bed at midnight to post birthday threads. Now that is devotion.
Janice and I have had our share of disagreements in the past. We've usually handled them privately, but a recent one was public. I'm sorry for handling it like that and for any hurt that it may have caused her. Sometimes my emotions get the best of me and things are said in the heat of the moment.
If Janice can forgive me, I'd love to have her back in her previous role. This community wouldn't be the same without her. Janice is more than a moderator. She is a friend.

Todd, thank you for your kind words, and of course I'll return as moderator. Things happen sometimes, and it takes a good person to apologize, my friend, and we have some catching up to do. :)
To everyone here, my dear Lord, I sniffled my way through this thread. I had no idea, and that's not false modesty. I consider everyone my friend here. Sonny, a special thank you for making this thread. It's wonderful to feel so appreciated. To those I've ever offended, I apologize. Brand new start. HugeTVFan 11-12-2007, 02:06 PM Janice was a person whom when I went on a tirade, that person stated the truth. I had to appreciate the site--and now I'm going to take a moment to appreciate her for what she is--a kind-hearted moderator. Sure, I've only made one thread at Chit Chat (and after a while, it got dead) but it was something and something good at that. Everyone for a brief moment was welcoming to me and Janice replied either first or second. Anyways, she was kind. She is kind. She is active but on top of that, she is kind. She is honest and compassionate and warm-hearted. Anyways I'm just rambling. Janice...I don't really know you that well (nor does anybody else) but you rock!
Everything works out in the end. Like a sitcom. ;)
HugeTVFan 11-12-2007, 02:09 PM Aw, yes. And this is Sitcoms Online...so isn't everything supposed to work out like a sitcom?
qwerty 11-12-2007, 02:09 PM Welcome back!!! Glad it was only temporary. The board missed you.
ABlairican Pie 11-12-2007, 02:16 PM I was not even aware that she was gone, I certainly didn't want her to go away indefinitely. I know often times we had differences of opinion on the Political/Current Events board, but it was always best for everyone to maintain a spirit of civility and kindness. In spite of what anyone ever thought or did, Janice has always been very giving to people, especially on their birthdays with a nice message, or when a loved one passed away or had a personal tragedy occurred in someone's life, she was always there for them, and encouraged others to show kindness as well.
In honor of Janice's amazing contributions to the the boards, Yer Captain ABlairican Pie Rock & Roll Historian salutes Janice, the hardest working gal in Show Bizness, with a full on rock and roll salute with the following politically right-of-center-leaning musicians:

Big hug and kisses!:) I posted about a fraud of a boyfriend I have, and I was thinking, 'I hope Janice gives me advice on this guy." Irene gave me some advice on him, however, but I wish you had too. I wanted to PM you and ask if you could give me your input on this fraud guy Mark, but of course you had left temporarily. :( I am so glad that you are back though!:D

I want to apologize for a heated disagreement that we had a few years ago. You might not even remember it now, but I've felt slightly guilty about it ever since.
Janice 11-13-2007, 02:26 PM I love you guys. Really, so sweet and kind. I rarely recall disagreements, unless a person gets personal, so Sara Micelli, I don't recall anything. :)
It's great to be back!

I'm assuming she was saying that Hollywood was weird, and that it's name should be changed to Hollyweird.

Exactly, she was talking about her avatar, not you Holly.

I've never had an interest in buying shows. I just watch what they're offering. I just wish that they would air more Fresh Prince. It's just not on enough. I'll have to check out the Barney Miller board. I used to post there a lot.
