How do you feel about giving teachers/professors gifts? For example, a card or something small and sentimental as a sort of thank you for being an inspiration? Would you feel weird doing it? For those of you who have done it, what sort of reaction did you get from your teacher/professor? For those of you who haven't done it, has there ever been a teacher/professor that you've wanted to give something to?
The reason I am asking is because I saw a cute Shakespeare figurine that I know my Poetry prof. would get a kick out of, but I don't know whether to give it to him or not.

I see no problem with giving a gift to a professor, but I would do it after the semester is over, and after grading is done. Some might look at it as the student trying to get a better grade, or they might be worried about the school finding out and thinking that. Last year someone gave one of my professor's a gift, and he ended up giving it back to them for that very reason. Though, I see nothing wrong with giving a gift after the grades have been submitted.

I've never given a professor a gift because I rarely have that type of relationship with them. I have, on the other hand, just recently written a couple of thank you notes to two of my professor for writing me letters of recommendation.

Go for it girlfriend. I know your teacher would surely appreciate it. So many of our teacher's are taken for granted and I think any token would be a sign that you really care and appreciate the hard work they did and all they taught was not in vain.
The same goes for any professional you may want to give a gift to, whether it is a card, a gift card, etc.

Yes go for it I think you should give them that shakespeare figurene. Yea I'm thinking of giving my favorite teacher some type of 80's thing. She's a total 80's fan probably a movie or a cd. I had her for english last year but now I service for her and we talk on and on about the 80's

I see no problem with giving a teacher or professor a card or a small gift as a token of appreciation. All too often, teachers don't get the praise and respect they deserve.
Some wonderful gift ideas include: a donation to the school's library or PTO, classroom supplies, personal care items like tissues, cleaning supplies, and hand sanitizer, or even (I've seen some parents do this and I think this is the best idea.) a memory book that includes a picture of each child in the classroom and some fond memories of what went on in the class that school year.
