View Full Version : Weirdest day of work ever
It was so strange at work today. A radio station was at the grocery store I work at for a promotion. People could buy Spamalot tickets today from 5 to 7 before they go on sale tomorrow. People started lining up around 4. The line of people was fine what was wierd was people from the theater guild were there in medieval costumes doing bits from Monty Python. They were flinging cow at people in line, running around while clomping coconut shells. There was a guy juggling. When I got back from my break I had to wait a minute before I could get on my lane, because they were doing the black knight skit and I couldn't get around the girl hopping on one leg. Of course when they would do the bits they would all use their theater voices that carried across the store. Plus they were giving away Spam as a prize for trivia! If I had a nickle for every customer that said "What is going on." I could retire. All in all it was very surreal.

You sure this wasn't a dream?;)
catlover79 11-10-2007, 11:22 AM I remember all the promotions that went on when I was a cashier at the local movie theater. I was there for all three Star Wars prequels, all three Lord of the Rings movies, and the first couple of Harry Potter films. You can just imagine the excitement (and costumes!). I also once dressed as Samantha from Bewitched when the Kidman/Ferrell movie came out to give out prizes.
bingbangbaby 11-10-2007, 07:16 PM I had a weird day too!! I didn't know it, but today was the day of the Ironman Triathlon competition, and they took most of our streets for the cyclists to ride their 52 miles. It's Florida (which is why it's happening in November), and I live on a peninsula, so there's not a lot of directions you can go before you hit ocean. So I'm on my way to work, and I open, so our appointments start at 9am and if I'm not there to open the door then we'd have lots of upset people because they pay by the hour. I'm driving along and all of a sudden I'm shuffled with a lot of other cars around the corner on a street I didn't want to be on. Suddenly as we go around the corner there's hundreds of people on bicycles next to us! The street was divided with a lane for them and a lane for us (cars). So I'm thinking, this isn't the way I need to be going, I have to turn around! Well every single turn was blocked by police (and they weren't kidding) and we all just had to keep going straight because you couldn't cross the bicycle course. So about 6 or 8 miles down and about ten til 9, I call my coworker whose day off it is and tell him he's going to have to go open the door because I can't get to the building! All this time I'm driving along with hundreds of cyclists riding along next to me, all in spandex and helmets. If I wasn't so frustrated and worried it would have been hilarious. So my coworker says he can't get out of his apartment building parking lot because the race is routed right in front of his building and it's all blocked off. I don't know where in the world I am by this time...somewhere waaaaay off course, like 10 or 12 miles the wrong way north on the peninsula, and I have him on the phone, when all of a sudden the whole flock of cyclists looped around on their course and went the other way! I'm yelling on the phone that they turned off! they turned off!! and he's laughing so hard! The only problem was now I had no idea where I was or how to get to work...I finally made it, 5 mins late and although there were a few people waiting, most everyone else was late too and some of our appointments couldn't find their way in at all. It's all everyone was talking about today...it was the craziest thing! Who closes roads so you can only go one direction? On a peninsula, no less??
