Is it true she's covered the Billy Preston/Syreeta classic With You I'm Born Again (1979)? If so, is it going to be on the CD coming out in February?

View Full Version : MonarC, is this true about Mariah Carey? catlover79 11-09-2007, 10:26 PM Is it true she's covered the Billy Preston/Syreeta classic With You I'm Born Again (1979)? If so, is it going to be on the CD coming out in February? MonarC 11-09-2007, 10:51 PM I have no idea. Where did you hear about this? catlover79 11-09-2007, 10:58 PM I just saw the video of her singing it on youtube!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHfziZUicx4 Dean Winchester 11-09-2007, 11:02 PM I like Mariah, but I wish she'd move away from the r&b genre for once. When she first came out, she was a cross between r&b, pop and dance music, but ever since critics in the black community accused her of "selling out" in the mid-90's, it's been r&b and only r&b like she's trying to overcompensate. Hell, Mary has been r&b from the get-go and her new song is almost disco-ish, and she's worked with decisively non-urban artists like Bono, Sting, Elton, etc... I wish Mariah could follow suit because it's like she tries too hard at being a credible urban artist these days, what about her pop fans? MonarC 11-09-2007, 11:23 PM Wow I had never heard that before. Thanks. catlover79 11-10-2007, 11:35 AM Wow I had never heard that before. Thanks. You're welcome! I still prefer the original, however. Some things just can't be topped. MonarC 11-11-2007, 07:39 PM Yeah that's true. :) I don't think she will be releasing this song as a single or on her album. Just a guess. catlover79 11-13-2007, 01:42 AM Mariah has done an able job covering many artists' songs (The Jackson 5's I'll Be There was her finest, in my opinion) but her versions just don't move me like the originals. For instance, I much prefer Brenda K. Starr's version of I Still Believe to Mariah's. I think Mariah does a much better job with her own material, but again, that's just my opinion. |
