NewsRadio - I still remember sitting in my sister's room watching the pilot with her. She was recording it (thankfully) and I fell in love with the show right then and there.

Saved by the Bell: The New Class - It was Saturday morning and I was anxious to see the new cast. At the time, I enjoyed it, knowing (even then) that it was a crappy show. I'm a fan of the show and have all the DVDs.

Boy Meets World - I was thinking it would be like a "Dennis the Menace" of the 90s, with Cory as Dennis and Mr. Feeny as Mr. Wilson. It was a nice pilot, even though my dad didn't care for the show. I watched the show from beginning to end on TGIF.

8 Simple Rules - I taped the first ten episodes before putting the show on hold. I really loved the pilot and saw a bright future ahead for this show. It lasted three seasons, but unfortunately did not have a "bright" future ahead of it. :(

Home Improvement - I remember watching it and liking it, though I didn't really watch the show a lot afterwards until the DVDs.

Family Matters - I watched it with my sister on TGIF and we both liked the show. The pilot had a different Judy and I remember watching the second episode and being upset because I liked the original better.

I don't know if "In the House" counts as a hit show, but I watched (and taped) the pilot and first two seasons.

I'm sure there are others, though I can't think of them right now.

That's exactly what happened with me. I enjoyed the Pilot, and the first couple episodes afterwards. But then they started doing those continuing storylines, plus every episode seemed to revolve around Bridget complaining, so I said forget it. Then I watched the couple episodes following John's death, and that was it. I have been watching on ABC Family, though, and realizing the last 2 seasons are actually a little better than the first one.

You are one cool 60 year old if you watched Supernatural, Buffy, Charmed, Roswell, etc... from the start yet also watched all the 50's, 60's and 70's classics from their inception as well. Totally proves wrong a certain poster who a long while back cited that being in his 40's, he could never watch shows like those because they "only work if you have sentimental childhood memories attached to them". Thanks for going against the mold and proving that there are many people out there over 45 who haven't yet settled into Matlock and Murder She Wrote reruns.

I can't even begin to express how much I LOVE your variety of TV viewing over the years. I'm glad your not the kind to ONLY stick with "Classic" or "Current" shows. That is awesome.

Thanks, guys. I guess I still think young. I've always enjoyed a mix of old and new entertainment, be it music, movies or television. But television is
(and always has been) my first love. It amuses me that so many people look
down on television as a medium that is inferior to motion pictures. That has
been the case since the beginning. Yet as many movie stars have taken a
stab at TV as TV stars who have "graduated" to movies. And usually the movie stars who try TV fail, while the TV stars who go into movies succeed.
What does that tell you?

What were you saying to yourself when watching Louise and George in the Cab during the opening of the new show-"THE JEFFERSONS" credits on January 18, 1975?

I realize now that I should have edited my earlier post. I misread the header;
I didn't see the word "HIT" shows so I included ALL the shows whose pilots I'd
remembered seeing when first aired. Of course, many of those that I
mentioned only lasted one season (or even less than a season in some cases).
For the most part, I also only mentioned shows that premiered in the fall
thus omitting some hit shows that were mid-season replacements. Other
shows that I watched early on, e.g., THE FLINTSTONES, I wasn't sure if I saw
the very first episode or not (when it first aired). I wanted to clarify that; I
guess I'm a compulsive completist.

When the "Family Matters" pilot aired, I was only six. It was probably just a matter of she was first and then all of a sudden there's a different Judy.

I was never a fan of Judy, though I wish she had stayed because I can't stand when characters just vanish without explanation.

And I'd like to add a couple more pilots I watched when they first aired:

King of the Hill - I taped the whole first season and part of the second.

Futurama - I watched the pilot and a few other episodes before quitting, only to buy the DVDs and fall in love with the show.

I know I must have watched the pilot to "Step by Step" because I watched all the TGIF shows back then. But I don't remember specifically watching it.

Same here. A majority of shows in my DVD collection, for instance, were either on before I was born, I was too young to see them from the beginning, or I just picked them up later on. I have a habit of starting a show a couple years in.

I do the same thing with music. In the 80s, I was listening to 50s and 60s. Now I listen to 80s in the 2000s. :lol:
