Why did Alan's buying that decorative bowl make Charlie go off the deep end? I thought this was kind of a strange episode.

I felt Alan was just trying to make a contribution to his brother's house and he was unhappy that Charlie didn't respect him, causing him and Jake to move out.

I thought it was a nice gesture on Alan's part. I didn't understand why it upset Charlie so much though. He even threw it in the fireplace and broke it.

I don’t think the bowl was a good example.. I think the writers were maybe half on strike when they came up with that idea.
