Never read the novels at all, but is there any difference from what's on T.V or on paperback fiction? Curious to know if anybody ever read these books before at all?

I own the 1984 paperback of the original pilot episode. It is a terrific book. It tells the story of how Charles came to work for the Pembrokes and chronicles his first three months living with the family. The last couple of chapters deal with the events shown in the pilot episode. The book does give some background on Charles that was later proven wrong by the series. In the book it states that Charles was adopted, for example. There is also some really great pictures in the center of the book.
