Do a couple more successful shows playing pretty much the same character? Lucy did it with "I Love Lucy", "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" (not to mention Life with Lucy). Bob Newhart did it with "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart" (not to mention Bob). Bill Cosby did it with "The Bill Cosby Show", "The Cosby Show" and "Cosby".

So, do you think there could be some more Raymond series with Ray as the star, playing a very similar character but with all new characters around him?

I don't think so. This show, I believe, will be his only starring role in television.

I agree - I think Ray will be like Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen. They only had one successful, long-running sitcom and will be forever typecast on TV because of it. I see Ray doing more with voiceovers, writing, producing and maybe even going back onto the standup circuit. The UPSCALE standup gigs only, of course.

OH Nuts!

I hope he does something different. Or he stars on another show perhaps in a supporting role. It's always really special when you see a good TV actor do a new role that's very different from their last. For example Ted Knight, who played the bumbling and overbearing Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and then played a much more intelligent character on Too Close For Comfort.

Another example is Betty White who played the saccharine sweet and phony Sue Ann Nivens on MTM, and then played the innocent and kind-hearted Rose on The Golden Girls.
