Oscar winner Marisa Tomei will always regret turning down a leading role in smash-hit comedy Four Weddings + A Funeral.
The actress reveals she was offered a part - believed to be the one Andie MacDowell landed - but had to reluctantly say no.
She explains, "My grandfather was sick at the time, and I didn't want to leave (New York). I'm sure it would have been fine with him, but I felt like I didn't want to

i'm still mad at that movie - it wasn't a comedy, and Rowan Atkinson's entire role in the movie was shown in the promos to sell the movie as a 'comedy'
the rest of it was a boring piece of crap.

That reminds me of something I saw on ET a few years back. They were interviewing Butch Patrick (The Munsters). George Lucas wanted him to play a role in a little 50s movie he was producing. Mr. Patrick turned the role down. It turned out to be the role of Curt in American Graffiti, which eventually went to Richard Dreyfuss. Mr. Patrick said turning down that role was one of the stupidest things he's ever done. :o

that movie was dull as crap though. i'm actually glad that tomei didn't star in that film. and yeah, for a so-called comedy it wasn't even that funny. people would say that if she had done so, then perhaps she would've had a much more successful movie career. having said that andie macdowell did play the role that was originally stated for tomei, and since four weddings, she has struggled when it comes to getting movie work as an actress. she hasn't had a hit movie since.
as for tomei, i think she is very talented and yet so underrated i just don't understand why she is not getting enough scripts. having said that the hollywood movie business has gone to **** in recent years
