View Full Version : What's your favorite Lucy line?
SPLAIN 11-02-2007, 01:42 PM Or any other line that as soon as we read it, we'll smile and think of the shows? I'll start with SINCE WE SAID I DO, THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS WE DON'T! Probably the one line that best describes the series and the many talents of Bob and Madelyn.

WhiteTiger 11-03-2007, 12:47 PM Well, I'm your Vitavigavegivat Girl. Are you tired, run down, listless? Do you pop out at parties? Are you unpoopular?

drewfussclass101 11-03-2007, 11:24 PM in "building a barbeque"
lucy: "Aww, thanks ethel its times like these you know what real friends are for."
Ethel: "if i had known this is what friends were for i would have signed up as an enemy!"
In the same episode after ricky found the barbeque had been taken apart and put back together
Ethel: Maybe a huricane came through and did this
Lucy: Yeah, thats it.
Ricky: Conneticut doesnt have huricanes.
Lucy: YEA THATS NOT IT
Lucy: Maybe it was a tornado
Ricky: Conneticut doesn't have tornados either
Lucy: BOY THIS IS A DULL STATE!
NOVARick 11-03-2007, 11:48 PM Lucy: If Fred were seeing someone else you'd be singing a different tune!
Ethel: Yeah, "Happy Days Are Here Again"!
comedyfreak 11-04-2007, 01:19 AM From Lucy Does A TV Commercial in the Apartment inside her tv set. Ricky goes over plugs in the tv set and pow! Lucy nearly gets electicuted.
Lucy:" What are you crazy or something! "What are you trying to do, Barbeque me!"
Czas na Zywiec 11-04-2007, 03:08 AM Not exact, but close enough.
Ricky: Do you know anything about rice?
Fred: All I know is that I had it thrown at me on one of the darkest days of my life!
And it's not a line, but I love the episode where Lucy is lost on the subway train with that loving cup on her head. :rotflmao: When she finally finds out that she lost her veil and people can see that loving cup, she tries to hide it by reading that newspaper then covers her head with it. One of my favorite episodes ever. :rotflmao:
SPLAIN 11-05-2007, 12:03 PM What's that line about Ethel's age? Somewhere between Speedy Cleaners and Goldblatt's delicatessen?
MOWERDAN 11-05-2007, 01:25 PM In "The Court Room" episode:
Fred: "Or we'll sue you!"
Ricky: "Yeah well, we'll see who's gonna sue who."
Lucy: "Yeah...We'll sue who's gonna see..."
I don't remember that much from The Lucy Show (or was it Here's Lucy?), but I do seem to remember what I'm inclined to think is a takeoff from "The Court Room." Lucy is threatening to sue Mr. Mooney [and how did they ever come up with his name?] and their conversation goes something like this:
Lucy: ...I'm gonna sue!
Mooney: Sue?
Lucy (affirming): Sue!
Mooney: Sue who?
Lucy: Sue you!
Mooney: Ooh, noo!
Ireneparalegal 11-05-2007, 06:42 PM Washing machine episode:
"YOU BEGGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :brent
SPLAIN 11-07-2007, 03:28 PM Here's one from The Lucy show i always liked, JUST JIGGLE IT A LITTLE IT'LL OPEN, said really fast by Lucy over the phone.
SPLAIN 11-07-2007, 03:29 PM Here's one from Here's Lucy: Ginger Rogers leaves and turns back to say, DO ME A FAVOR, BECOME A KATHARINE HEPBURN FAN!
LucilleBallfan 11-13-2010, 02:41 PM my favorite "Lucy Line", is whenever she makes her "spider face" and makes that noise that is hard to determine what she says.
Timoth26 11-13-2010, 04:58 PM I Love Lucy
"Lucy Is Jealous Of Girl Singer"
Lucy: Where were you this afternoon!
"Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying To Murder her"
Ricky: Lucy is acting crazy!
Fred: Crazy for Lucy or crazy for normal people?
Ricky: Crazy for anybody! She seems to have some idea that I'm going to kill'er.
Fred: That doesen't mean anything. Sooner or later every woman decides that her husband wants to kill'er. She's usually right.
The Lucy Show
"Lucy Waits Up for Chris"
When Lucy is on the trampoline trying to get in through Viv's window. Lucy tells Viv to try and catch her but she misses when she comes up and goes back down.
Viv: Oh, Lucy it won't work!
Lucy: It's got to work
Viv: But it won't!
Lucy (comes back up) There you go with that negative (then goes back down and comes up again) Thinking.
Lucy Sues Money
Lucy: (to herself) Are you sure? (then she sets back down on the bench looking up with her head turn towards the honor) I'm positive!
Tap Dancer 11-14-2010, 06:40 AM I'm paraphrasing here:
Lucy: "You wanna go to dinner with the boys?"
Ethel: "Yes!" (pause) "What boys?"
There are soooo many funny lines in every episode, though. I'd never be able to narrow it down. The one above just popped into my head. :)
Tap Dancer 11-14-2010, 06:41 AM How about when Lucy wants to go to charm school? Ethel asks if she thinks they can help her. Lucy says, "Sure. It says right here they work miracles."
catwoman1 11-14-2010, 04:20 PM Or any other line that as soon as we read it, we'll smile and think of the shows? I'll start with SINCE WE SAID I DO, THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS WE DON'T! Probably the one line that best describes the series and the many talents of Bob and Madelyn.
When Lucy and Ethel get their CQ (charm quotient) done. "Lovey" says to Lucy 'your powder leaves your skin with a wierd unnatural look". Lucy says "I'm not wearing powder"
Lucyeth's 12-09-2010, 06:45 AM Gee-whiz, I can't decide! There are so many lines that just make me laugh-out-loud .. but if I had to choose, here's the first that comes out of the top of my head -
"Later that night, Madge was crying softly in her room; waiting for the phone to ring. They said they’d call if they found Gordon’s battered body when they dragged the river .. she waited and waited, wouldn’t that phone ever ring? [phone rings] THEY FOUNNND THE BODDDY!" - Lucy; The Black Eye
ShamelessFanGirl 07-22-2011, 11:46 AM Mine was from the episode when Lucy, Ethel, Fred and Ricky switched roles in the marriages and Ricky was cooking chicken and rice and he asks Fred "What do you know about rice?" and Fred replies "Well I had it thrown at me on one of the darkest days of my life!"
tvfreak1987 08-16-2011, 02:05 AM From "Off To Florida":
Mrs. Grundy: I was just admiring your lovely red hair. Is it dyed?
Lucy: Dyed?
Ethel: WHO DIED?!!!!
Cracks me up everytime.

comedyfreak 08-24-2011, 08:25 AM Lucy Does A TV Commercial
Lucy takes the guts of her tv out and gets inside doing her own show, Ricky takes the tv cord and plugs it into the socket and the tv shorts out with Lucy still inside she exits and exclaims......
Lucy: What are you crazy or something, what are you trying to do Barbecue me!
marriedaniac 09-12-2011, 11:16 AM Are you wet?
That was hilarious.
There are a few surprisingly racy lines found throughout the series.
One I particularly like is from Lucy's Schedule...
Ricky: "We'll allow so much for each thing. 10 minutes for this, 15 minutes for that..."
Lucy: "Ohhh, I'm gonna need more than 15 minutes for THAT!"
*clutches pearls*
east215 11-03-2011, 05:35 AM In the episode where the girls are going to Florida and are eating one of Mrs Grundy's watercress sandwiches.
Ethel: "Not bad, kind of tasty".
Lucy: "If you liked buttered grass"
(Ethel reaches for Lucy's sandwich)
Lucy: "I LOVE buttered grass!"
missy's pop pop 11-19-2013, 02:20 PM Here are a few of mine!
LUCY: "It's a hotbed of bacteria!" ("Nursery School", 1955)
RICKY: "Keep jiggling, Peggy, keep jiggling!" ("The Young Fans," featuring Janet Waldo ["Judy Jetson"] and Richard Crenna, 1952)
ETHEL: "I could have loaded it better with a pitchfork!" (reacting to the overloaded Pontiac convertible in "California, Here We Come!", 1955)
RICKY: "What happened to my beautiful barbecue?"
LUCY: "An earthquake?"
RICKY: "They don't have earthquakes in Connecticut."
LUCY: "A tornado?"
RICKY: "They don't have tornadoes in Connecticut."
LUCY: "Boy, this is a dull state!"
RICKY: ..."I think it was two hurricanes...Hurricane Lucy and Hurricane Ethel." ("Building a Bar-B-Q", 1957)
(after the egg-tango crash in 'Lucy Does the Tango," 1957)
RICKY: "Ethel, were you in on this too?"
(Fred slams the door into Ethel's egg-filled fanny)
ETHEL: "...I WAS..."
ThisLittlePiggy 11-19-2013, 09:31 PM Lucy: Hey, Ethel. Guess what Ricky got me!
Ethel: Um... let's see. A hat? A new dress?
Lucy: Oh, Ethel, better! Think about what every woman wants from her husband!
Ethel: A divorce?
missy's pop pop 12-28-2013, 11:29 PM From the 1956 I Love Lucy Christmas Special:
LUCY, explaining Santa Claus' arrival in the Ricardo apartment:
"Well, he takes the North Pole with him and he just slides down the chimney...!"
During the discussion about what needs to be trimmed from the tree:
FRED (pulling a folding hand saw out of his pocket): "I've been putting up trees with this kid for 15 years!"
The singing sequence leading into "Sweet Adeline":
LUCY: "I just don't sing well anymore. I don't know what's wrong with me lately."
RICKY: "Anymore?"
ETHEL: "Lately?"
LUCY: "I know my voice isn't what it used to be."
RICKY: "It's exactly what it used to be and that's what wrong with it."
Just as Fred enters the kitchen, becoming the fifth of five Santas:
FRED: "Boy! Ya gotta get up pretty early if you want to play Santa around here!"
missy's pop pop 01-09-2014, 09:04 PM Lucy Does A TV Commercial
Lucy takes the guts of her tv out and gets inside doing her own show, Ricky takes the tv cord and plugs it into the socket and the tv shorts out with Lucy still inside she exits and exclaims......
Lucy: What are you crazy or something, what are you trying to do Barbecue me!
And notice that wicked grin on Ricky's face just before he plugs the power cord into the wall socket!
Babalu 06-22-2014, 06:52 PM "Senora Ricardo! Telefono!"
"You made a U-turn in the Holland Tunnel?"
"She'sa her birthday today too!"
"Entertainment tax!?"
"Yonkers."
"Who else would listen to 25 choruses of Babalu?"
"Harry and Bess Truman got the last table."
"I am not the father of that cheese!"
"The sap runs every two years."
"I brought you a six month's supply."
"From now on we drink goat's milk!"
"Ewwwwww..."
Golden Gloves 1909.
"Yeah but it took years of practice."
"I wanna go to Li'l Ricky's party!"
"Wait a minute. You mean to tell me you've been married to her for fifteen years? And they call me Superman!"
JeannieTylerMoore 06-24-2014, 11:34 PM "I'm not a maharincess; I'm a Henna-rinsess!"
Bonniegirl 08-01-2014, 12:41 PM Fred Mertz ---
"Oh for corn sake" and "Honey Bunch"!
Every time he says "Oh for corn sake" it cracks me up! I've never heard anyone besides Fred say that, but I say it sometimes!! People look at me funny, or they laugh and say that's what Fred Mertz used to say!
And the way he calls Ethel "Honey bunch" is hilarious in his deep, gruff voice!!! LOL!!!
Ohio8 08-23-2014, 02:41 PM Ricky: "Listen, Fred. I've got an awful problem on my hands." Fred: "You should've thought of that before you married her." Ricky: "Look, this is no joke."
tlc38tlc38 08-23-2014, 02:52 PM My all-time favorite Lucy line is used in just about every episode..."I have a plan!".
Bonniegirl 08-23-2014, 03:31 PM Lucy always says "Oh honestly"! After somebody says something or after something happens that annoys her. Not really a funny line, but an old expression. You don't hear people say that anymore. Like 'Oh for heavens sake" is another one you don't hear much anymore My mom always used to say that! I think Oh honestly is equivalent to how nowadays we say "Whatever" after someone annoys us!
Here are a few I remember:
"Pregnant Women are Unpredictable"
LUCY: You don't love little Robert or Madelyn!
LUCY: The names should be unique and Euphonious
RICKY: Okay, Unique if it's a boy and Euphonious if it's a girl
"The Freezer"
FRED: I got a song for you. "Let's Bamboozl-o to El Freezo"
"The Fur Coat"
ROBBER: Give me that Fur or I'll shoot!
LUCY: Wait a minute! (lifts the fur up) Okay, shoot!
"Ricky Loses His Voice"
Lucy: Is there anything else you like me to do for or TO you?
"The Ballet"
Lucy: ABBA!
"Off to Florida"
Lucy: Miratienecosamujeresta! (Kicking the tire cap)
"Lucy in the Swiss Alps"
LUCY: Fred, did you see any sky?
FRED: (Mocking) No I didn't see any sky!
ETHEL: I SMELL CHEESE!
"The Gossip"
LUCY: (Thinking to herself) Ooh, Ethel will die when she hears this. I can't keep it to myself another minute. I'll call her right now. Gee, it's pretty late. I wonder what time it is. Well, she might still be up. I can't tell her without losing that bet. It would be gossip. Darn it! (Ricky snoring) That's right, sleep, you big ox.
"The Hedda Hopper Story"
RICKY: Mother, dear, why didn't you tell us it was Hedda Hooper [coming to tea]?
MRS. MCGILLICUDDY: You didn't ask me!
"The Business Manager"
MR. HICKOX: Congratulations.
LUCY: What for?
MR. HICKOX: I finally found a set of books I can't figure out.
"Building a Barbecue"
ETHEL: I coudl have been in a nice, quiet apartment in New York. No, I had to move to Connecticut, so I could be near you.
missy's pop pop 09-03-2014, 08:44 PM ETHEL (attempting to help Lucy reassemble the barbecue):
"It's times like this I wish I kept a diary, so I can write in it, 'Dear Diary: Tonight I felt through wet cement.'"
Ohio8 09-20-2014, 01:21 PM Fred: "She said my mother looks like a weasel." Lucy: "Ethel, apologize." Ethel: "I'm sorry your mother looks like a weasel."
Ricky: "Lucy's actin' crazy." Fred: "Crazy for Lucy, or crazy for ordinary people?"
missy's pop pop 10-10-2014, 06:14 PM "If I didn't dye my hair, I'm sure by now my roots would be snow white!" -- Lucy to Ethel, after returning the Cadillac/Pontiac mash-up from the body shop in "Lucy Learns to Drive," airing on Me-TV this morning!
GameShowFan66 12-05-2014, 11:50 AM Ethel: "This is that new Italian haircut!"
Fred: "On you, it looks like 'Life...with Luigi'."
Fred: "Ethel, if you were meant to have a fur coat, you'd have been BORN with one!"
Ricky: "WHA HOPPENED?!?!?!??"
OH Nuts! 01-15-2015, 08:57 AM "Waaaahhhh" lol (the way she sometimes starts to cry when something goes really wrong)
Evil Zebra 01-15-2015, 10:48 AM And it TASTES GOOD TOO!!!!!
