Eddy was that way, only thinking about himself. Or girls, of course. He also thought about girls. But besides that, he didn't think much about anything, especially not in the beginning of the show.

Yeah it was wrong for him to ask for the sneakers but that's the way some children are. Everything is always all about them but in Eddie's defense didn't he tell Carl to use the money for the sneakers for the household?

Eddy was really stupid too in the first season. We shouldn't have expected more from him.
