PITTSBURGH - Thieves tried to rob three Subway shops in Pittsburgh, but in each case their efforts were torpedoed by employees and patrons. In two holdups, the robber left empty-handed. Once, he got away with just a few dollars.

On Oct. 23, Subway employees refused a masked robber's demand that they open the cash drawer. The robber got angry, threw the tip jar on the floor and stormed out.

Two days later, at another Subway, a revolver-wielding robber demanded money, but the nervous clerk couldn't open the register and a female patron refused to hand over her purse. A third customer gave up his wallet, but only when the robber promised to mail it back.

On Tuesday, a robber hit a Subway cashier with a pistol, but the dazed clerk couldn't open the drawer. The robber demanded the wallet of the store's only customer, but that patron refused.

Police say the same person may be responsible for at least two of the holdups.

And he's probably one of those stupid criminals who would put his return address on the envelope!!:D
