I recently bought the Billboard chart books from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's off ebay which list every single chart from those weeks. Some great stuff, I figure from time to time I may post exerpts from a vintage chart.

This is the top 20 from this week in 1987. I think few weeks truly represent the decade as well as this. Arguably the top 4 biggest music icons of the Reagan era (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and Bruce Springsteen) all are in the top 10 this week. Other 1980's superstars like U2 (#14 with Where The Streets Have No Name), John Mellencamp (#26 for Paper In Fire, #58 for Cherry Bomb), R.E.M. (#24 for The One I Love), George Michael (#37 with Faith), Huey Lewis And The News (#92 with Doing It All For My Baby), REO Speedwagon (#22 for In My Dreams), Gloria Estefan (#36 for Betcha Say That), Debbie Gibson (#33 for Shake Your Love and #59 for Only In My Dreams) and Whitney Houston (#35 for Didn't We Almost Have It All, and debuting at #47 with So Emotional) are on the list. Alongside tracks from legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Sting, Yes, Aerosmith, Smokey Robinson, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Donna Summer, Kiss, Dionne Warwick and Grateful Dead amongst others.

Time to put on your acid washed jeans and heat up the jiffypop waiting for The Cosby Show to come on.
