I don't care for #6 but it was an Emmy-winning series in it's early years before it started relying too much on stuntcasting. Sex And The City, Ally McBeal and Golden Girls all won Emmys for Best Comedy Series as well and all deserved them for the seasons they won for.

There are a lot of BAD tv shows that are far worse than shows that you might not like the content of. You think a show like Cavemen is better written and acted than Golden Girls or Sex And The City?

As for Will & Grace, I LOVED seasons 1-3, 4 was okay and the last decent overall season IMHO. The last four years of the show to me were for the most part a big disappointment. The characters became caricatures of themselves (and not in a good way), and then there is the guest star factor. I love a good guest star from time to time, but with W&G, it didn't seem to me like they thought the plot was that important. It was all about "ZOMG (insert celeb's name) IS ON THIS WEEK! ONLY ON NBC!" It just wasn't the same anymore. It was obvious there were creative changes, and those changes mostly were not for the better.

Also, funny how people only mention shows that they just personally hate rather than based on other factors. I mean, you won't see any of the younger people naming shows from the 50's or 60's or even 70's that they haven't seen because they haven't been in syndication. My point being that there are definitely some clunkers out there from every era, every year, every decade.

Absolutely. Also it depends how you look at things. I'm the type who focuses on what I like rather than onwhat I don't like. And there are so many great shows, that I really don't have the time or desire to think about what I hate. But I guess they'd likely be shows that got cancelled pretty quickly, that were so awful I've blanked them out--and certainly not the shows that have been listed thus far.

Let's not forget the horrid reality shows, so-called talk shows, late night shows that flopped, etc.

I agree with you totally. There are shows I dislike, like I admit I never got into the Will And Grace phenomenon, but was it one of the worst written/acted shows on television at the time? Absolutely not.

Same here. I never watched Will & Grace. The only time was when Madonna appeared, but other than that, never. I will not state though it is a bad show in any way simply because I didn't like it. There has to be more of a reason to call a show bad.

I never watched a lot of the hit shows. Friends is one of them. I don't like it, doesn't mean it was bad.

same here. will and grace isn't a bad show but i just thought it was overrated. friends eventually bored me by the 6th season onwards that i lost interest. i don't hate those shows- i just never got into them as much as others have

irene made a interesting point in regards to 50s, 60, 70s shows. i am 26 but i wasn't born in those decades although i have heard of and seen happy days, mork and mindy, diff'rent strokes, bewitched. 70s shows which were televised in the 80s and early 90s on tv. so my choices are personally based on what i've seen myself

i think that with our top 20 lists, each to our own i suppose. it all comes down to personal choice and what one person may find interesting and funny, the other person may feel the exact opposite and vice versa

Watch an episode one day if you can find it on. The dialogue was nothing but a bunch of catch phrases and one-liners strung together around a very weak plot. I can picture a writers meeting going something like this:

Writer 1: Do you think we've used the phrase "talk to the hand' too much in this episode?

Writer 2: Can you EVER use it too much? I mean, it's HILARIOUS!

Writer 3: Hey, that song "Mambo #5" is really hot right now. We should find a way to work a reference to it into the episode.

Writer 1: Ok, what's the plot going to be for this week's episode?

Writer 2 and 3: (In unison) Plot?

Writer 1: Yeah, you know. The story that ties everything together.

Writer 2: Oh uhhhh.....I don't know. Maybe....Jack gets a scooter?

Writer 1: BRILLIANT! Throw a couple of "Don't go there's" into the script, and we're done for the evening!


It's almost like the writers were more reliant on pop culture references, rather than actual good writing, to keep people watching.

Yeah, I think the thread should be changed to 'Least Favorite shows.' 'The 25 worst shows' seems a bit much...But that's just me. I think it was Irene who said it; There should be actual reasons for calling shows the WORST ever. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a BAD show. It just makes it a show you don't like.

BTW Chain Gang, if this were 1999/2000/2001, RAW would be my #1 show.

uh huh. I mean, everyone has their opinions, but can anyone honestly say that Seinfeld, Cheers or The Golden Girls (all have been namedropped on this thread) are the *worst* shows of all time? I admit I don't really care much for Cheers but it was a good series, just not a fave. It's like there are good musicians that I don't care for, but they're talented. Bob Dylan is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, I can't stand to listen to him sing, but I would never call him one of the worst, because that's an outright biased lie.

i understand what you guys mean by this. there is a clear distinction for worst shows- shows of which are just terrible and yet there is also another distinction of worst shows by means of which you personally dislike watching for various reasons, even though they are not considered as being downright crap.

i mean, i'm sure there are shows out there which have been popular and successful with the vast majority- and yet it those particular shows that one has never really cared for or loved themselves

There are some great shows that were low rated and canceled. There are some awful shows that were high rated and stayed on the air for years. And of course there were some lousy shows that were deservedly canceled and some great shows that stayed on for a good amount of time.

just because a show is successful ratings-wise, doesn't automatically mean that everyone likes it. for me, the argument about the amount of ratings it attracts is both a good and bad thing. will and grace, ER and friends for eg were highly rated shows and successful, but as i said before the longer they dragged on, the sooner they bored me to death and thus, i lost interest. usually, i would watch 2 episodes of a show and then afterwards i decide whether or not i enjoy it and to continue to persist with it.

the opinions of the critics are irrelevant- i don't care one bit because they get paid to write or say what they think. whereas with us the public we don't.
i think a show should last no longer say 5 seasons and if it goes beyond that, then well, it eventually loses its shape and all the great things that made it worth watching during the first 2 seasons for eg, are long forgotten.
the choices i make on the shows that i like to watch are based on what i've seen and what i enjoy personally

There's no point in talking about all the three, two, one-episode flops. Who cares about a bit of random noise?

I hate all mush and melodrama, but can't watch anything if there's no humanity to it.

So I guess I'd have to say Seinfeld. Though I watched it only once or twice, I could see it was not about nothing: it was all, "hey look, are you hip and edgy enough for me?". And that is not a good question to ask the audience.
