It bugged me when Fred would comment negatively on Lucy's singing. Did he think he was a great singer himself? Just because he was in vaudeville a hundred years ago, didn't mean he was any good now. I thought he was pretty bad. When he harmonized he sang any note and he often bungled the words. Check out "Sweet Sue" or "Oh By Jingo." omg: They should be called "Sour Sue" and "I Can't Singo."

I know Bill was in vaudeville, but he sure couldn't pull his weight on ILL.

Just my opinion...

Which episodes are those songs sung in so I can look out for that.

"Sweet Sue" is in "Breaking the Lease," and "Oh By Jingo" is in "Mertz and Kurtz."

To be fair to Bill, he was responsible early in his career for popularizing songs like Carolina in the Morning and Melancholy Baby, which became classics for that era. In the late '50s, he did a record album singing his old hits. About ten years ago, someone made me a copy of that album. He sounded pretty good to me. Perhaps he was no Bing Crosby, but it wasn't bad. I haven't really thought about the quality of his voice on I Love Lucy, but I guess I see what you're saying. Unlike Lucy, though, I don't think he was tone deaf.
