INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- AFTERNOON

It is Friday, May 28th, 1982. Jo is resting on her bed. Blair is packing. Tootie and Natalie walk in.

TOOTIE
Hey. You leaving now?

BLAIR
Yep. The Manhattan prom! I'm so excited. It's a major social event. I'll see you Sunday for my birthday.

Blair grabs two suitcases and a giant make up bag off the bed.

TOOTIE
Have a good weekend!

NATALIE
Hope you and Jason have a great time.

Tootie and Natalie each take turns hugging Blair. Blair looks at Jo. Jo gets up. The two girls hug. Blair walks to the door. She looks back.

BLAIR
Jo?

JO
Yeah.

BLAIR
Take care. It'll be okay.

They exchange a look. Blair leaves.

INT. LOUNGE -- LATER

Blair is waiting in the lounge when Mrs. Garrett walks in.

MRS. GARRETT
Is Sue Ann meeting you here?

BLAIR
Yeah. I know. Mrs. Garrett, I...I...thank you.

MRS. GARRETT
Sweetie-

BLAIR
No. You have been so incredible to me...I just... I just..I feel...well, I feel...frankly blessed. Everyone who I expected to pull through, did.

MRS. GARRETT
That should show you something. You're no jerk.

BLAIR
I know it wasn't easy.

MRS. GARRETT
I know. I would've missed you, you know that?

BLAIR
You would've?

MRS. GARRETT
Everyday.

Ally and Sue Ann walk in.

ALLY
You ready?

BLAIR
Yeah. Bye, Mrs. Garrett.

Mrs. Garrett and Blair hug. Blair gets up. The three girls leave.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- NIGHT

Jo is reading when Tootie and Natalie walk in.

TOOTIE
Hey, Jo. We're going to a movie. You wanna come?

J0
No, thanks.

TOOTIE
Come on. It's a comedy.

J0
No.

NATALIE
It'll make you feel better.

Mrs. Garrett walks in.

MRS. GARRETT
Hey, girls.

TOOTIE
Make Jo come with us?

J0
You're not going to.

MRS. GARRETT
Girls, why don't you two go to the movie by yourselves.

NATALIE
Fine. See you later, Jo.

Natalie and Tootie walk out of the room. Mrs. Garrett walks over to Jo's bed and sits next to her.

J0
No one gets it Mrs. G. I just lost a best friend and I know she wasn't what you would call an ideal friend....but still. But she wasn't a monster to me.

MRS. GARRETT
I don't think Sophie was ever a good friend to you. Even before the shooting. What she would put you through? I would get some of those messages when you weren't in and she would always ask why does Jo hate me? And she would pull stuff with you that if Blair pulled with you, you would never let her get away with.

J0
She once said to me, that she was sick of being blamed and that all she ever wanted to do was make me happy.

MRS. GARRETT
Would Blair ever say that to you?

J0
I don't think she would. She'd be laughing too hard.

MRS. GARRETT
Exactly. You need to place the priorities. Who is the better friend? If both had died, Blair and Sophie, who would you have missed the most?

This hits Jo. She turns and looks at Blair's bed. She smiles.

INT. BLAIR'S BEDROOM -- NIGHT

Christine, Blair, Dina, Ally and Sue Ann are getting ready. Ally is playing with the stereo. She comes on "Tainted Love"

DINA
This is great. Ladies, remember the ski trip. Tainted love.

ALLY
I toss and turn, I can't sleep at night.

CHRISTINE
Once I ran to you.

BLAIR
Now, I run from you.

GROUP
They say the love you've given, I give you more than a boy could give you. Take my tears and-

They look at each other.

DINA
That's not silly.

CHRISTINE
No, rap my belly.

ALLY
No, no. And call me, Nelly.

CHRISTINE
That's stupid.

ALLY
Like yours isn't.

BLAIR
Tainted love.

They look at each other.

GROUP
Don't touch me please, don't you understand. I toss and turn I can't sleep at night. Tainted love.

They laugh. The phone rings. Ally jumps on the bed and gets it.

ALLY
Hello, video killed the radio star. Agree or disagree?

J0
Ally?

ALLY
Jooooo. Girls, it's Jooooo.

Everyone says hi. Blair walks over to the phone and grabs it.

BLAIR
Dork. Hey, Josephine.

J0
Hey. Just calling to um, to hope--have fun.

BLAIR
Thanks. What are you doing tonight?

J0
Nothing.

BLAIR
Look, Liz said there was party at Bates tonight. Go. And invite Amy and Jessie.

J0
I don't know.

BLAIR
Jo...what are you gonna let Sophie win?

J0
No...I just-

BLAIR
No you're right, staying at home is better. Less chance of getting hurt.

J0
Alright, Warner. Maybe...I'll seriously...maybe go.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
Oh, and Jo, when you go try not to dress like too much of a barbarian.

Jo smiles.

J0
Talk to you later airbrain.

BLAIR
Bye, grease monkey.

They hang up. Blair looks at her friends.

CHRISTINE
You guys are so nice to each other it makes me sick.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
Jenny, I got your number. I didn't think you'd mind. Jenny, don't you change your number.

CHRISTINE
Shut up.

EVERYONE BUT CHRISTINE
867-5309. 867-5309. I got it. I got your number off wall. For a good time. For a good time call!

They laugh as they continue getting ready.

INT. LOUNGE -- NIGHT

Jo is pacing when Jessie and Amy walk in.

JO
Hey? You guys made it.

JESSIE
Why wouldn't we?

AMY
Yeah.

JO
I'm going to a party with a friend of mine. The party is at Bates. You wanna come?

JESSIE
No.

AMY
We drove an hour just to sit and stare at a wall. What's on TV tonight?

Jo smiles.

AMY
What made you decide to go to the party?

JO
A friend. Gotta move on, right?

AMY
Yeah. How's Blair doing?

JO
She's in Manhattan. Her friends are having their prom tonight and they are all going.

AMY
So you coming to ours?

JO
I can't. My prom is the same night. Come on, let's go.

The girls walk out of the room.

INT. GYM -- NIGHT

Blair and Jason are dancing.

JASON
Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?

BLAIR
Yes, but you can tell me again.

JASON
Naaaw.

BLAIR
I just...I can't believe we made it this far.

JASON
Me neither. What are we gonna do next year?

BLAIR
See what happens. You're going to NYU. It's not that far.

JASON
Yeah. I don't want anything to happen to us...I...after everything we've gone through and-

BLAIR
It'll be like it is now. Jason-

JASON
I'm so glad you're here.

They kiss. Christine and Mike, her date, dance up to them. Christine is wearing her tiara. She has a huge smile on her face.

CHRISTINE
Hey, I'm a homecoming queen!

Blair and Jason stop kissing.

BLAIR
Congratulations, Chris!

They hug.

CHRISTINE
My brothers are gonna steal my tiara. They have a welding project they wanna try.

Blair laughs.

JASON
I have nothing wrong with that.

Ally, Dina and their respective dates, John and Dan walk over to them.

ALLY
Hey, you having fun?

BLAIR
I'm having a great time.

DINA
Aren't you glad you're here.

BLAIR
More than you'll know and I have another prom next week. I'm rockin' in style.

Seth and Sue Ann walk over to them.

SUE ANN
I am in heaven.

Blair laughs. A waiter walks by carrying a tray of champagne.

SETH
Hey, Mr. Waiter man.

BLAIR
You have no class.

SETH
But you love me anyway.

BLAIR
Ehhh.

The waiter walks over to the group. Seth hands everyone a glass.

SETH
Here's to getting drunk.

WAITER
It's non-alcoholic champagne sir.

BLAIR
You're such a dork.

ALLY
I know.

JASON
It's there a way to get the alcohol back in?

BLAIR
Jason.

JASON
What?

SETH
Yeah. Can we?

WAITER
No.

SETH
We'll pay you.

WAITER
Sorry, sir.

SETH
You know, her father
(pointing to Blair)
Is the richest man in America.

WAITER
Congratulations, miss.

BLAIR
Thank you. I am so proud.

The waiter walks off. The group starts laughing.

JASON
It was worth a shot.

SETH
Maybe he didn't know what happened to you?

JASON
Yeah, go tell him.

BLAIR
What is wrong with you?

ALLY
Let's lift our glasses.

The group does.

ALLY
To the class of 1982.

CHRISTINE
And to Blair. We can't tell you how happy we are that you are still with us. You mean so much. And we know it's been really, really hard for you these last couple months and you're done.

ALLY
Yeah, I mean, did you even think you'd be standing here?

BLAIR
To be honest. Not a chance. I was...well, last month I-

JASON
What?

BLAIR
I'll tell you later tonight. But I was sad, but I...I am so grateful to have friends like you. And even though I didn't go to Manhattan with the rest of you, I-I'm just so thankful.

ALLY
Cheers!

The group clinks and drinks.

EXT. EASTLAND -- NIGHT

Jo, Amy and Jessie are walking back to the cafeteria, laughing.

AMY
That party was amazing. Oh and that guy, Eli.

JESSIE
He was checking you out.

AMY
He's hot and he's going to Harvard. I couldn't....and Jo, you swooped.

JO
No, no, my friend. I swooped and I conquered.

Jo takes a piece of paper out of her pocket and hands it to Amy.

JO
Congratulations.

AMY
Oh, I love you.

JO
Don't say that out loud.

JESSIE
You know who I saw the other day? Eddie?

AMY
Oh, yuck.

JESSIE
You know, if you hadn't you know banged him, you would've been graduating with us.

JO
True. But, you know the crime was so worth it.

AMY
Really? Eddie? You can't have great sex with guys named, Eddie. That's impossible. You can name your dog, Eddie. You can have a talking horse named, Eddie. But it is physically impossible to have great sex with guys named, Eddie.

JO
See, I blew that theory right out of the water.

JESSIE
No, pun intended?

JO
It was intended.

AMY
Okay, if he asked you to marry him, would you say yes?

JESSIE
Well, Amy...he did? And she said yes.

AMY
Okay, if he asked again, would you?

JO
In a heartbeat.

JESSIE
Oh, maaaan. You deserve better.

AMY
You know, I have a cousin you'd be perfect for. His name is Rick. He's like a fourth or fifth cousin twice removed. He's a pianist-

JESSIE
Stop.

AMY
What?

JESSIE
I'm not letting my best friend date a pianist.

JO
Well, Jess, depends. Amy, how big of pianist are we talking?

AMY
Ohhhhh.

JESSIE
Do your roommates know how gross you are?

JO
Blair does. The other two are still in denial.

The group laughs. The continue joking and talking. About 15 feet behind them, Tootie, Natalie, Cindy and Molly are walking.

TOOTIE
Is that Jo?

CINDY
She looks so happy.

TOOTIE
I haven't seen here that happy in months.

EXT. HOUSE -- NIGHT

Christine, Mike, Blair, Jason, Ally, John, Dina, Dan, Sue Ann and Seth are sitting and drinking.

SETH
That was a good prom. But I always say, here's to the After Prom.

JASON
You always say that?

SETH
Well, now.

CHRISTINE
Two more hours till Blair's birthday.

BLAIR
18 years. Wow.

ALLY
Hey, what were you talking about tonight? With the thing you wouldn't tell us?

SETH
Yeah, when are you gonna tell us about the time you tried to do yourself in?

Blair is stunned.

DINA
Seth! Even I'm shocked.

BLAIR
How did you-

SUE ANN
I told them. Natalie told me and I told Seth and Seth spread the word.

BLAIR
Oh.

SUE ANN
But don't get mad at Nat.

SETH
She was only worried.

CHRISTINE
We all were.

SETH
You can't pull crap like that.

CHRISTINE
Seth.

BLAIR
No, he's right. It was selfish and you guys have been so incredible. And I can't lose you as my friends. Ever.

ALLY
You won't.

SETH
We are sticking to you like glue.

BLAIR
Promise.

SETH
Everyday.

Blair smiles. They clink glasses.

INT. LOUNGE -- LATER

It is very early in the morning. Jo, Amy and Jessie are still up. They are laughing.

J0
I must say, this has been a great night.

AMY
It's 3am.

JESSIE
Wow.

AMY
Can I ask you three something? Can we try to keep in touch? We have a bond.

JESSIE
A special link to a killer.

AMY
You know what I mean. I mean, between the three of us-

JO
I know. It's just...why didn't you two stand by me at all?

AMY
Well, I didn't want to believe it. I kept thinking it wasn't true and I kept thinking if I ignored it, it would all go away. But it didn't. Everytime I would turn on the TV or read a newspaper. Blair Warner, daughter of textile millionaire David Warner....it was too much. And in hindsight, maybe that wasn't the best choice, but the time-

JESSIE
How did you stick by her? Between her and Blair?

JO
I ask myself that all the time. But I had to. I felt responsible, for both of them. I was watching out for them.

JESSIE
Who was watching out for you?

JO
No one.

AMY
We suck.

JESSIE
I know. We're sorry, Jo. We really are.

JO
I know. Maybe it's different cause it was in my face everyday. Blair's my roommate.

AMY
Is she doing alright?

JO
That's the bright spot, you know. I mean never tell her I said this, but I am really proud of her. She did it. She got through this. She didn't kill herself, she stopped herself. Natalie didn't stop her. Blair stopped it. Blair's...Blair's gotten nicer. Stronger and just more able...just odd.

JESSIE
You are gonna get through it to.

AMY
And we will help you this time, we promise.

JO
We'll help each other. Alright.

AMY
Sophie's parents are..I just...my parents think they're rotten. They're pretending like they never had a daughter.

JO
I know, they're pretending like she never existed.

AMY
After the shooting, the turned her bedroom into a study. They completely erased any memory of her. My parents went to their house to see if they needed anything, there wasn't a trace of Sophie anywhere. No picture, no anything.

JESSIE
My mom said the same.

JO
So did mine.

JESSIE
That's bizarre.

AMY
Do you think we'll ever forget?

JO
Not as long as I know Blair.

JESSIE
I think we will. Maybe not the action cause that's impossible. But the person....the way she once was? Definitely. We'll remember how she left it.

JO
Ugh.

AMY
I know.

JO
She wanted to be a doctor.

JESSIE
She would've been good at taking blood.

Amy and Jo look at her.

AMY
Jessica.

Jessie laughs.

JESSIE
I know.

Jessie tries to control her laughter. Jo and Amy start laughing too.

JO
She could hurt people and fix them up.

AMY
She always cleans up after herself.

They are cracking up.

JO
G-d, we're sick.

AMY
We really, really are.

JESSIE
You know, in all seriousness, I don't miss her at all.

AMY
Me neither.

JO
I miss the old Sophie. Not the one she left behind.

AMY
I would so not want her as my doctor. Doctor G. Reaper.

They start laughing again.

EXT. GARDEN -- MORNING

Ir is very early morning. Seth, Sue Ann, Christine, Mike, Dina, Dan, Ally and John are sitting out on a large porch swing overlooking a massive garden. It is very stunning with every possible flower imaginable.

SUE ANN
This is stunning.

Blair and Jason walk back to the group carrying ten champagne flutes and large bottle of champagne.

BLAIR
It pays to be rich.

Blair pours champagne into the glasses. Everyone takes one. Blair and Jason take a seat on the swing and cuddle together. Every couple cuddles together.

SUE ANN
Happy birthday, Blair.

BLAIR
Thanks. This has been an amazing night.

JASON
Oh, yeah.

CHRISTINE
Guys, the sun is starting to rise.

The group sits silently and watches as the sun rises. They smile. Jason steals a kiss from Blair. She smiles.

INT. LOUNGE -- DAY

It is May 30, 1982. It is later in the day. Blair walks into the lounge with her luggage and sees Amy, Jo and Jessie sound asleep in various parts of the room. Blair tries to move slowly and quietly through the lounge, but can't. Jo wakes.

JO
Hmmm, Blair?

BLAIR
Go back to sleep.

JO
How was it?

BLAIR
Incredible, but I'll tell you about it tonight.

JO
Okay. Happy birthday.

BLAIR
Thanks.

Jo goes back to sleep. Blair slowly walks out.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- MOMENTS LATER

Natalie and Tootie are studying on their respective beds when Blair walks in.

BLAIR
Hey, girls.

TOOTIE
How was it?

BLAIR
Simply amazing. You told them about what happened, Nat?

NATALIE
You found out?

BLAIR
Yeah.

NATALIE
I'm sorry...I know you didn't want me too, but....I felt like I had to. Don't be mad.

BLAIR
I was at first, but...but I really...I know you care. And I appreciate and I probably would've told them anyway.

NATALIE
Really? Good.

TOOTIE
Have you told your parents?

BLAIR
No.

TOOTIE
I think you should.

BLAIR
I may tell my mom at the Mother Daughter Breakfast. Right now, I'm gonna get some sleep before the party tonight. Walk me up in six hours.

TOOTIE
Will do.

NATALIE
Happy birthday.

TOOTIE
Happy birthday.

BLAIR
Thanks.

Blair walks over to her bed and lies down. She slowly falls asleep as Tootie and Natalie continue studying.

INT. RESTAURANT -- NIGHT

Blair, Tootie, Natalie, Jason, Jo, Seth, Sue Ann, Nancy, Molly, Cindy, Dina, Dan, Mike, Christine, John, Ally, Mrs. Garrett, Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Parker, Elizabeth, Taryn, Monica and David are all standing around, talking. Blair is standing with Dina, Christine, Ally, Jo, Nancy and Sue Ann. They are talking and laughing.

DINA
Wait, Ms. Warner why don't you tell your friends about the summer of '81?

ALLY
Oh, yeah. Why don't you tell them that?

BLAIR
No.

CHRISTINE
Come on. They'd be interested.

BLAIR
No they wouldn't.

JO
Yes, we would.

SUE ANN
You have no idea.

ALLY
We will. Let's see the four of us went-

BLAIR
Alright, Alright. Becker, Ally, Chris and I went to the Hamptons for a summer and there was this guy, Antonio. And he-he-

ALLY
Let's just say, we didn't see her lips for three months.

Blair glares at Ally. The rest of the group stares at Blair, stunned.

DINA
Or her face.

CHRISTINE
She didn't even wear half the clothes she brought.

BLAIR
Alright, alright. No...it was-

SUE ANN
Did you...you know?

BLAIR
No. We did get a little-we got close-but it was a summer fling.

CHRISTINE
And baby was she flung.

Blair gives Christine a look. Everyone laughs. Even Blair laughs a little bit.

JO
Antonio?

BLAIR
Oh, oh yeah.

NANCY
What did he look like?

DINA
She only saw him when the lights were out.

Everyone is cracking up.

JO
Oooo.

BLAIR
He was hot.

Suddenly, the lights dim. Mrs. Garrett walks out with a cake. Everyone starts singing.

GROUP
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear Blair. Happy birthday to you!

Blair smiles. Dina, Ally and Christine hug her. She bends down to blow out the candles.

INT. APARTMENT -- LATER

Blair, Sue Ann, Nancy, Ally, John, Christine, Mike, Jo, Dina, Dan, Seth, Jason, Amy and Jessie are all sitting around.

BLAIR
I so did not.

ALLY
Oh, yes you did.

JO
Blair Warner drunk. Dream come true.

BLAIR
I was not drunk. I never drink.

ALLY
Never. In fact, winter break that bar dancing thing....too much sugar.

JO
You were dancing on a bar? This is the dream.

BLAIR
You were on the bar too, Allyson.

ALLY
I don't know what you mean?

CHRISTINE
All of us got pretty plastered.

DINA
Oh, my. I'm still hung over.

DAN
Me too.

MIKE
That was fun.

SETH
Bar dancing to Def Leoppard. We were heaven.

CHRISTINE
I have never consumed that much alcohol in my life.

BLAIR
Not me.

NANCY
Admit it.

BLAIR
No.

JO
Come on.

BLAIR
Alright, alright. Winter Break, let's just say...well-

CHRISTINE
Trashed.

BLAIR
Oh G-d, yes.

SUE ANN
What were you like? What was she like?

CHRISTINE
Silly.

ALLY
Goofy.

DINA
Nutty.

JO
So no different than when she's sober.

BLAIR
Oh. No, no, Ms. Jo you can not make fun of me about drunkeness.

ALLY
What?

SUE ANN
Oh, yeah.

AMY
What?

BLAIR
You haven't told your own friends.

JO
They don't need to know.

JESSIE
Yes, they do.

NANCY
I remember...do you really want to hurt me?

BLAIR
Do you really want to make me cry?

JESSIE
You did not.

AMY
Oh, my G-d.

JO
Thank you Blair. I had just broken up with Eddie. I had an excuse.

BLAIR
No, you didn't.

ALLY
Eddie, oh, Eddie....I remember him. Wasn't he the one that Jo-

BLAIR
Ally.

JO
I'm going to kill you.

BLAIR
Ehhh, your friend couldn't do it and babe, neither can you.

JESSIE
Ouch.

They are all cracking up.

AMY
Jess, remember Alex Campton?

JESSIE
Oh, poor kid.

BLAIR
What?

JO
She doesn't need to know.

BLAIR
Yes, she does.

AMY
This kid had this massive crush on Jo. I have never seen anyone with this big of a crush.

BLAIR
Oh it happens everyday of my life.

ALLY
Not one of your best. I give it a five.

CHRISTINE
3.

DINA
4.

JASON
2.

SETH
Negative 13.

BLAIR
I'm recovering.

JASON
You've recovered.

AMY
Alright, he would leave these adorable messages. Jo, this is Alex Campton from seventh grade and I think you're so pretty and I wanna date you.

BLAIR
Awwww.

JESSIE
Jo, this Alex Campton from seventh grade I heard you're going Eastland next year. I'll visit you and call every day.

JO
He never did.

BLAIR
Oh, my G-d.

JO
What?

CHRISTINE
He called didn't he?

BLAIR
I forgot to give you the message. He called like seven different times. I'm sorry.

JO
That's okay. He visited.

BLAIR
Excuse me?

JO
Tenth grade. You and I were fighting.

BLAIR
We were?

JO
Odd.

BLAIR
Yeah, cause we never do that.

JO
Well, he visited.

AMY
Was he cute.

JO
No.

NANCY
Oh, no.

JO
Yep.

JESSIE
Wait, Manhattanites, we've embarrassed Jo. You're turn to embarrass Blair.

SETH
What? You wanna a novel?

JO
Yes. Greg Vinson.

ALLY
I got a story. Tenth grade. Blair came home for the weekend because she got sick of Jo.

JO
Oh, wait...Blair what fight number?

BLAIR
Ummm, it was October. So it was fight number......30.

AMY
You number your fights?

JO
Yeah.

BLAIR
So we don't repeat any. And we use them as referrals in new arguments.

JO
Oh, yeah. Fight number 30. Okay.

CHRISTINE
How are two friends?

BLAIR
Good fighters.

They laugh.

SETH
Alright, so here's what happened. Blair crashed into a shoe store.

JO
Excuse me.

BLAIR
I heard they were having a sale.

JESSIE
That wasn't funny.

BLAIR
I was really pissed and I wasn't paying attention and I overshot my turn. A little.

ALLY
A little? Blair, you took out the entire side of the store.

JO
That's what you get for getting the hot driving instructor.

BLAIR
I guess.

SETH
Alright, alright Eastlanders, new topic. What's your senior prank?

NANCY
Senior prank?

JO
I haven't even thought that far.

BLAIR
I think we're not having one.

MIKE
No, no.

JASON
That's why we're here.

SETH
We're here to save the day.

BLAIR
Come on, I think our school has been through so much turmoil-

SETH
That's why we should do it. A, end the year on a high note and B, no one is expecting it.

JO
So what do we do?

BLAIR
Jo?

JO
Did we just meet? I'm in.

JASON
We lined our school with bubble wrap.

JO
That's good.

BLAIR
How about hiring a marching band to follow Mr. Parker around and whenever he opens his mouth, the band starts to play.

The group looks at her, stunned.

JO
Blair.

BLAIR
Bad?

JO
No, ingenious.

BLAIR
Another one of my brilliant ideas?

ALLY
Brilliant.

JO
How did you learn such things?

BLAIR
From a very good friend.

Jo and Blair exchange looks.

JO
But it's too expensive.

SUE ANN
True.

SETH
Hiring a male stripper for Mrs. Garrett?

JO/BLAIR
No!

MIKE
Why not?

BLAIR
We work for Mrs. Garrett.

JASON
Then it's a treat for you, too.

BLAIR
No, because if she likes it and I'm there to witness her enjoyment, I am going to drown myself in a pot of refried beans.

JO
And save room for me. Besides....just so many things wrong with it.

BLAIR
On just so many levels.

SUE ANN
I got it...well, it may sound kinda dumb. But, a few years ago in Kansas, the class of 1980, filled the school with chickens.

MIKE
Go on.

SUE ANN
They put chicken feed every where and a giant chicken coop. Then they called the school late at night and left clucking sounds on the machine. They painted signs and stuff and-

BLAIR
Sue Ann, where are we gonna find live chickens in New York?

DINA
I am not touching a live chicken.

DAN
I know where we can get some.

MIKE
Me too.

DAN
Alright, here's the plan, we will get everything tomorrow. Jo, Blair, Nancy and Sue Ann, it is your job to contact all the seniors.

JO
And we can all meet tomorrow?

DAN
Exactly. 9 o'clock, tomorrow night.

JO
Front lawn.

BLAIR
We are so there.

The group begins to plan.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- EVENING

It is Monday, May 31st. Natalie and Tootie are studying. Jo is trying to study, but keeps looking at her watch.

NATALIE
Jo, are you alright?

J0
Yeah.

NATALIE
So is Blair sleeping at the apartment tonight?

J0
Yeah. They wanted to have a sleepover.

TOOTIE
Cool. I'm almost done with the dresses.

J0
Great.

Mrs. Garrett walks into the room.

MRS. GARRETT
Jo, phone.

J0
Great, I'll get it downstairs.

Jo gets up and walks out of the room.

NATALIE
They're up to something.

TOOTIE
I know.

MRS. GARRETT
I think I know what it is.

TOOTIE
What?

MRS. GARRETT
This time, every year.

NATALIE
Senior prank.

MRS. GARRETT
Exactly.

NATALIE
They wouldn't.

TOOTIE
After this semester, Blair and Jo are not in the mood.

NATALIE
On the other hand, they have been feeling better.

TOOTIE
Blair's not having as many nightmares. And Jo's been sleeping.

MRS. GARRETT
I think that's it.

NATALIE
Are you gonna do something?

MRS. GARRETT
No, they aren't gonna vandalize anything.

Jo walks back into the room.

J0
That was Blair. She needs a book.

Jo walks over to Blair's bed and grabs a book. Mrs. Garrett smiles.

MRS. GARRETT
And how long will this Senior Prank take?

J0
You know?

MRS. GARRETT
I'm assuming.

J0
A few hours, don't worry, we aren't vandalizing anything.

MRS. GARRETT
I know you won't, cause if you do, I will kill you.

Jo laughs.

J0
Bye, Mrs. G.. Bye, guys.

NATALIE
Bye, Jo.

TOOTIE
Bye, Jo. Tell Blair we said hi.

J0
Will do.

Jo walks out.

EXT. EASTLAND -- LATER

Blair, Ally, Mike, Dan, John, Seth, Jason, Dina, Christine, Elizabeth, Taryn, Sue Ann, Nancy, Amy, Jessie and a bunch of other seniors are waiting on the lawn. Jo walks over to them.

J0
You ready?

DAN
Alright, let's do it. Let's do it!

JASON
Here's to the class of 1982!

ALLY
We rock!

The group cheers and separates. We cut to a montage. The song, CELEBRATION starts playing.

INT. EASTLAND -- NIGHT

Jason, Seth, Mike, Dan, John, Sue Ann and Jo are setting up the coops.

EXT. EASTLAND -- LATER

Blair, Ally, Christine and Dina are dancing around and acting silly.

EXT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Blair, Elizabeth and Christine are painting a sign that says "CLASS OF 1982". Amy, Ally and Nancy are painting another sign that says, "LIVES ON"

INT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Blair is painting Ally's hair, red. They are laughing.

INT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Jo, Seth, John, Sue Ann, Mike and Dan are placing the chickens in various places.

INT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Blair, Ally, Christine and Dina and Nancy are skipping and placing raw eggs around the school.

EXT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Elizabeth and Blair are toilet papering the trees outside the school when suddenly, they are pelted with raw eggs. They turn to see Jo and Ally smiling. Blair and Elizabeth run to get eggs of their own and a small war breaks out.

EXT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Dina is resting when Christine, Blair and Ally walk up behind her. They are each carrying small buckets of paint. They dump it on her. Dina jumps up and sees her friends. They race off with Dina chasing after them.

EXT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

Amy, Jessie and Jo are putting a bucket of water on the front door. They call for Blair. Nancy instead opens the door and the water dumps on her. Blair appears behind Nancy, smiling.

EXT. EASTLAND -- NIGHT

Various seniors are signing the "CLASS OF 1982" sign and the "LIVES ON" sign. Elizabeth walks over to Blair and hands her a picture. Blair looks at it and smiles. She puts it down. It's a picture of Rachel. Underneath, Blair writes, "In memory of Rachel Sorenson. In spite of it all...we will never forget." She puts the picture in the middle of both signs so it looks like Rachel's picture is holding both signs together.

INT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

The seniors are tossing chicken feed everywhere. Small fights are breaking out everywhere. Some seniors are also putting up chicken feed.

EXT. EASTLAND -- NIGHT

Blair, Elizabeth, Christine and Ally are pasting up the two signs to cover the doors. It says "CLASS OF 1982 LIVES ON" complete with a signatures from every member of the senior class. Connecting the two signs is the picture of Rachel. On walls next to the door are three more pictures on a separate sign with the saying, "In memory of those who never had a chance, but still made a difference". One is a picture of Cassie, another of Lauren and another picture of Emily. The group stands outside to admire their feat.

BLAIR
We did it!

ALLY
This is incredible.

J0
I know. Thank you.

BLAIR
For what?

J0
For getting me to do this. It was really relaxing.

BLAIR
Do you mind that we didn't put Sophie's picture up?

Jo thinks about it.

J0
No.

AMY
It's for the seniors that made a contribution. Sophie didn't make one.

DINA
She did, we just didn't like the one she made.

BLAIR
True. Here's to the class of 1982.

J0
We rock!

They all stand around to admire their work.

INT. MRS. GARRETT'S BEDROOM -- MORNING

It is Tuesday, June 1, 1982. The phone rings. Mrs. Garrett rolls over to pick up the phone.

MRS. GARRETT
Hello?

MR. PARKER
Edna?

MRS. GARRETT
Yeah?

MR. PARKER
It's Kevin Parker.

MRS. GARRETT
Mr. Parker. What can I do for you?

MR. PARKER
Did you know anything about this?

MRS. GARRETT
What?

MR. PARKER
Senior prank.

Mrs. Garrett sits up. She smiles.

MRS. GARRETT
Oh, what did they do?

MR. PARKER
They filled the school with chickens.

Mrs. Garrett holds in their laughter.

MRS. GARRETT
Really?

MR. PARKER
Yes. I never saw it coming. I know I should be mad. I hate the senior pranks. This made me laugh. And besides, they did come together at the end. It shows something about this class. They've got strength. And Edna, we also have some wonderful chicken cluckers.

MRS. GARRETT
Excuse me?

MR. PARKER
This morning, we must've gotten ten messages on the machine from various seniors clucking.

Mrs. Garrett starts laughing.

MR. PARKER
I know, I was laughing too. I really should be angry. But I don't have the heart to be. They've been through so much. Might as well let them have the last laugh.

MRS. GARRETT
Yeah. Let them have their fun.

MR. PARKER
I'll see you later.

MRS. GARRETT
I gotta go get breakfast ready.

MR. PARKER
Bye. Oh, and tell Blair and Jo, they did a lovely job.

MRS. GARRETT
Will do.

They hang up. Mrs. Garrett laughs to herself.

INT. KITCHEN -- MORNING

Mrs. Garrett, Tootie and Natalie are getting breakfast ready when Blair and Jo walk downstairs.

MRS. GARRETT
Good morning.

J0
Hey, Mrs. G..

BLAIR
Do I have to work today? I'm feeling ill. I'm still recovering.

J0
You're recovered.

BLAIR
You don't know.

MRS. GARRETT
You can sit breakfast out, Blair.

BLAIR
Thank you.

Blair sits.

NATALIE
I knew it was too good to be true. Blair working.

TOOTIE
I know.

Blair gives them a look.

MRS. GARRETT
Hey, girls what are your thoughts for lunch today?

Blair and Jo exchange a look.

BLAIR
(mouthing)
Chicken, anyone?

Jo laughs. Mrs. Garrett catches what Blair said.

NATALIE
What's so funny?

J0
Nothing.

MRS. GARRETT
That's a great idea, Blair. Chicken. Why don't you and Jo stop by school and pick some up.

Jo and Blair's eyes widen. Mrs. Garrett laughs. Tootie and Natalie exchange puzzled looks.

J0
What?

MRS. GARRETT
Mr. Parker called this morning. He loved what he saw when he opened up the doors to Eastland this morning.

NATALIE
What did he see?

BLAIR
Chicken.

TOOTIE
Are you serious?

BLAIR
It was Jo's idea.

J0
Not a chance. You're the one with the chicken friends.

MRS. GARRETT
Don't worry no one is in trouble.

BLAIR
You're not mad?

MRS. GARRETT
No.

J0
Mr. Parker's not mad?

MRS. GARRETT
No, he actually found it funny.

BLAIR
Good.

J0
We thought it was funny as well.

They laugh and continue making breakfast.

EXT. EASTLAND -- MORNING

Everyone is standing outside the school. Blair, Jo, Sue Ann, Nancy, Elizabeth, Taryn and about twenty other seniors are standing on the steps facing the crowd. Mr. Parker is standing along side them.

MR. PARKER
So, do you girls have something to say.

BLAIR
I will. Yes! In January, our school suffered a massive tragedy and in honor of the people we lost, senior Rachel Sorenson, juniors, Cassie Bernstein and Lauren Rosen and sixth grader, Emily Freed we are taking back our school!

Everyone cheers.

NANCY
Ladies, we the class of 1982 decided to carry on tradition and show our school the way it was meant to be shown.

SUE ANN
It's our our pleasure too introduce to you.

The group parts to reveal the sign.

J0
The class of 1982! We can overcome anything!

BLAIR
Shall we?

Some of the seniors remove the sign and open the doors.

BLAIR
And remember the words we will live on!

The crowds start to move forward. The seniors make way for everyone to enter the building.

INT. EASTLAND -- CONTINUOUS

The halls are lined with chicken feed and eggs. There are chickens roaming through the halls and in chicken coops. There are signs everywhere that say "EVOLUTION OF THE BIGGEST CHICKEN" and show a copy of a chicken with Mr. Parker's face on it. There are also signs that say "TOP TEN REASONS CHICKENS ARE BETTER THAN COLLEGE!" With ten reasons below. Students are laughing as they watch everything. In the midst of it all stand Tootie, Natalie, Cindy and Molly.

NATALIE
Our friends are not normal.

TOOTIE
No, apparently not.

MOLLY
This is kinda funny.

CINDY
I know.

MOLLY
This deserves a song.

TOOTIE
Most definitely.

They laugh and link arms. They begin to skip off down the hall, singing "Old McDonald" at the tops of their lungs. Blair, Jo, Nancy and Sue Ann are huddled together laughing. Mr. Parker walks up to them. He is holding the sign with his face on it.

MR. PARKER
My favorite flier.

J0
Mr. Parker, you're our favorite chicken.

MR. PARKER
Well, girls, this is one of the better senior pranks. I must say.

BLAIR
We're glad you're not mad.

MR. PARKER
No...I mean, what can I do? It's a tradition. Not one I like, but there it is. But when will you girls come by and clean everything up?

BLAIR
Tonight.

J0
After school.

MR. PARKER
Which one of you four clucked into my machine?

Sue Ann and Jo exchange looks and slowly raise their hands. They laugh.

MR. PARKER
Well, I think we have our graduation theme song in the works.

Mr. Parker walks off. The four girls look at each other.

BLAIR
It's celebration time, come on.

NANCY
Celebrate and have a good time.

BLAIR
So what's your pleasure? Everyone around the world, come on!

The girls walk off, singing.

INT. EASTLAND -- AFTERNOON

It is after lunch and the halls of Eastland are roaming with students finished with lunch. There are still chickens roaming the halls, but things are slowly getting cleaned up. A group of students are gathered around a big bulletin board. Jo, Blair, Nancy and Sue Ann are walking together when Natalie and Tootie race over to them. Natalie grabs Blair's hand.

NATALIE
Come with me.

Natalie drags Blair off.

NANCY
What's that all about?

TOOTIE
The Homecoming Court is up. Natalie is a sophomore princess.

They follow Natalie and Blair to the board. On it is the list of everyone in the court.

NATALIE
I am a sophomore princess. Nancy, Sue Ann-

SUE ANN
Senior princesses!

J0
Congrats.

NATALIE
And the homecoming queen-

BLAIR
Is me! Oh, finally a court I really wanna be in!

NATALIE
And I'm your princess.

J0
Oh, G-d. Tootie-

TOOTIE
We're living with both of them.

J0
Do you think it's too late to move out?

Tootie laughs.

BLAIR
Dahlings princesses, you look lovely today.

SUE ANN
Thank you, queen Blair and as always so do you.

NANCY
Simply splendid.

BLAIR
Now, my dears, why don't we trot off to our next class.

NATALIE
Oh, lovely. Drop me off at Geometry.

BLAIR
Will do.

Blair starts to walk off. Nancy, Sue Ann and Natalie link arms and follow closely after. Tootie and Jo exchange looks.

TOOTIE
I am going to throw up.

J0
You know what I just realized? My friend, Amy, is the Homecoming Queen at her school. Blair's friend, Christine was the homecoming queen at her school and Blair is the homecoming queen here.

TOOTIE
Yeah.

J0
I'm surrounded by queens and I intended the pun.

Tootie laughs and puts her arm around Jo. The two walk off.

EXT. EASTLAND -- MORNING

It is Friday, June 4th. The mother-daughter breakfast. There are moms walking with their daughters, eating breakfast. Blair and Monica are walking together.

MONICA
Honey, I can't tell you how proud I am to be here with you.

BLAIR
Thanks.

MONICA
I-I-I am so proud of you for getting through this.

BLAIR
I almost didn't.

Monica stops and looks at her daughter. Blair stops.

MONICA
Excuse me.

Blair turns to her mom, but she can't she look her mom in the eye.

BLAIR
I-

MONICA
Honey, look at me.

Monica cups her daughters chin with hand and lifts Blair's face up.

BLAIR
I tried to kill myself.

Monica drops her hand.

MONICA
What?

BLAIR
I-I-was-I couldn't handle-I'm not that strong and I-I'm so sorry, mom. I'm just so sorry.

Blair starts sobbing. Monica holds her daughter as tightly she can.

MONICA
I'm never letting you go. You can't leave me. You're my baby. You will always be my little baby. Even when you're 80. G-d, do you have any idea how much you mean to me? Do you understand?

Blair looks at her mom.

BLAIR
Mom-

MONICA
You mean the world to me.

Blair smiles. Monica hugs her, tightly. In the distance, Rose and Jo are sitting at a table drinking coffee and eating chocolate crossiants.

ROSE
What's going on with Blair?

Jo looks over at Blair and Monica.

JO
I wonder if she told her?

ROSE
Told her what?

JO
Blair tried to kill herself last April.

ROSE
Oh, G-d.

JO
She stopped herself, but-

ROSE
Oh, Jo. Can I tell you something? I am so proud to call you my daughter.

Jo smiles. She turns her head away in embarrassement.

ROSE
No, I'm serious. What you've been through since January, it's taken guts and strength. To go between Blair and Sophie-

JO
Thank you. I don't miss Sophie. I mean, I do. But I miss who she used to be and I would've missed Blair so much if she had died. Crazy, huh?

ROSE
You two make a good team.

JO
We do.

Rose and Jo look at Blair and Monica.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- NIGHT

June 5th, 1982. Jo is standing infront of the mirror. She looks amazing. She is playing with her hair the mirror in her prom dress. She is wearing a navy silk dress.

JO
(Yelling)
Blair, get a move on!

Blair walks into the bedroom. She looks like a princess. She is wearing a floor length cranberry red silk gown. She is wearing a tiara.

JO
You look beautiful Blair.

BLAIR
So do you. Wow look at us. Hang on.

Blair gives Jo a gift.

JO
You did not-

BLAIR
Open it.

Jo opens it. It's a string of pearls.

JO
Oh, Blair.

BLAIR
I thought it would be great with the dress.

JO
These are beautiful. I hate it when you do nice things, it makes it really hard to hate you.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
Lemme put them on.

Blair puts them on Jo. They hug.

BLAIR
Thank you. We've been through so much these past few months. Both of us and I know it's been hard. I mean, I don't know what I would've done, but I am so...so thankful that I have you on my side.

JO
When Sophie and I were little, we did think about senior prom. I know you find that hard to believe. I wanted to go in jeans.

BLAIR
You, no?

JO
And she wanted to go in Cinderella's ball gown. I know I shouldn't feel sad, but I do.

BLAIR
I understand. And I know you hate it when I use my money and buy you things-

JO
I do. And to show you that I hate it. I'll keep these and wear them.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
You'll show me.

JO
Damn, right.

They hug again, tightly.

BLAIR
And let's make a promise. Tonight, we don't discuss courts, Sophie, death penalty, school shootings, trials or testimonies. We stay out all night, drink champagne and have the most amazing Senior Prom. We talk about college and how beautiful I look.

Blair smiles. Jo laughs.

JO
Blair!

BLAIR
Hey, the bitch is back.

JO
You have a deal.

Blair and Jo shake hands. They hug tightly as Tootie and Natalie walk in.

NATALIE
Hey, your dates are here.

TOOTIE
Wow, you two look like princesses.

JO
Guess what? The old Blair is coming back. She just said we should talk about how beautiful she looks.

Tootie and Natalie cheer.

TOOTIE
Yea!

NATALIE
Welcome back!

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
I'm waiting.

JO
Stunning.

TOOTIE
I'm in awe.

NATALIE
I can't believe...it's...not butter.

Blair cracks up.

NATALIE
Oh, we bought gifts for both of you. Joint. We aren't you Blair.

BLAIR
You know, you have a chateau and everyone's a critic.

Natalie walks over to her trunk and pulls out two gifts. They open their respective gifts. They each got a gold bracelet with a heart charm on it. On Blair's charm, "Blair" is engraved and on Jo's, "Jo" is engraved.

BLAIR
These are gorgeous.

TOOTIE
Look on the other side.

BLAIR
Love, Natalie and Tootie.

JO
Thank you.

Natalie puts Jo's bracelet on Jo. Tootie puts Blair's bracelet on Blair.

NATALIE
You two are like sisters to us.

TOOTIE
Yeah. The four musketeers and neither one of you can ever leave. Got that, Blair.

Blair raises her right hand.

BLAIR
I, Blair Warner, do solemnly swear never to get shot and almost die ever again.

TOOTIE
Good.

BLAIR
Cutie.

Blair hugs Tootie.

JO
Oh, and try not to kill yourself either.

BLAIR
Well, I may kill you. But me, no. I mean, I need to stick around you know. Cause I think you need the challenge.

Jo laughs. There's a knock on the door. Tootie opens it. It's Jason.

TOOTIE
You can't be here.

JASON
Mrs. Garrett gave me special permission.

JO
We'll leave you two alone.

NATALIE
Yeah.

Jo and Natalie walk to the door.

NATALIE
Tootie, come.

TOOTIE
I wanna make sure nothing happens.

NATALIE
Tootie.

BLAIR
Go.

Tootie, Natalie and Jo leave.

JASON
So this is your room?

BLAIR
Yeah.

JASON
You sleep in the bunk beds?

BLAIR
Tootie and Natalie. I sleep there.

JASON
Oh. I am looking forward to tonight.

BLAIR
Me too.

JASON
Let's have fun tonight? Okay?

BLAIR
Yeah.

JASON
Great room.

BLAIR
We've had great times.

JASON
You ever do anything intimate in this room...you know-

BLAIR
You would love that, wouldn't you?

JASON
Foursome?

BLAIR
Ewww, G-d. Taking lessons from Seth?

Blair is laughing. Jason holds her close to him.

JASON
Can't you just humor me?

BLAIR
No. Never.

JASON
Fine. Why not?

BLAIR
Because, Jo knows people that can take my life.

JASON
Ouch.

BLAIR
And you'll tell Seth.

JASON
No. Yeah.

BLAIR
Who in turn will ask Jo and Sue Ann. Jo will to proceed to tell Natalie and Tootie. Sue Ann will tell Cindy, Nancy and Molly.

JASON
You can't humor me?

BLAIR
But, I could seeing kissing someone in this room.

JASON
Jo?

BLAIR
You. Ewww, never mind. Sick.

JASON
No, no.

BLAIR
Sick. But you're my best friend, what does that say about me?

They laugh and kiss.

INT. RESTAURANT -- NIGHT

It is Sunday, June 6th. Blair, Jo, Natalie and Tootie are sitting and eating.

BLAIR
Okay, okay. No. I didn't do anything like that.

TOOTIE
But you wanted to?

BLAIR
Duh.

NATALIE
Which prom did you like the most?

BLAIR
Both.

JO
You were gonna go to Manhattan last year?

BLAIR
Sometimes I wish I had. I used to all the time, but somehow Peekskill, New York keeps calling me home.

JO
I know what you mean. When I got here, all I wanted to do was go back to the Bronx. But Peekskill-

BLAIR
It's like a suction-

JO
It keeps sucking you in.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
Here's to Peekskill.

JO
We can't get away from it.

They clink their glasses together.

TOOTIE
It's not horrible. I mean, you never would've been friends otherwise. The four of us wouldn't be friends and Blair, you chose Eastland over Manhattan and you had many, many opportunities to choose Manhattan. And you didn't, you know why? Three words, Tootie, Natalie and Jo. Mainly me.

BLAIR
No. Okay you wanna know? Ally, Christine, Dina, Seth and Jason are amazing. They're funny, intelligent, can be sweet. I couldn't imagine my life with out them. I've had the best moments of my life with those people. And I've had some of the worst, too. But they're like me..does that make sense?

TOOTIE
Maybe?

BLAIR
Look at them and look at me. They are all rich, beautiful, thin, white. We are all Christian.

NATALIE
Allyson Goldman.

BLAIR
Non practicing. We've all been waited on our entire lives. We come from broken and/or dysfunctional homes.

JO
Really? Even Chris?

BLAIR
Well, Seth, Dina and I have parents that are divorced. Ally's parents work so much, they never see her or her brother. They've worked so hard to give Ally and her brother this amazing life, but they forgot about the being there part. And Chris comes from a family of seven. Sometimes she gets lost in the crowd. Especially cause...I mean, Matt is turning 21 and is a party animal. Lucy's 15 and is a bit promiscuous. Simon's 12 and junior high is filled with problems. Then Sam, David and Jenny are the youngest. Chris is the normal one. We're all dysfunctional and a our own little family.

TOOTIE
There's something to be said for differences.

BLAIR
Exactly, if someone had said to me back in sixth grade before I came here "you know, Blair your closest friends are gonna be a talkative, gossipy black girl, a neurotic, hysterically funny Jewish girl and a tough girl from the Bronx" I'd say that person was insane. Especially with Jo.

JO
And I couldn't say the same about you? Cause you know there are tons of rich white girls in the Bronx.

They laugh and continue talking.

INT. ART STUDIO -- EVENING

It is Monday, June 7th. Blair is painting. She is completely covered head to toe with paint. Jo, Tootie and Natalie walk in.

TOOTIE
Nice look, Warner.

BLAIR
Hey-

J0
You've been in here forever.

BLAIR
Well, my art show is coming up. I got to get them done. Make up for lost time.

NATALIE
That one's kinda creepy.

TOOTIE
I know...depressing. But good.

BLAIR
I know, that's the affect. This is gonna be exhilariting. You're gonna love it. I'm...I feel wow. Hmmm.

J0
Hey, about the mother-daughter breakfast-

BLAIR
Jo.

J0
Well...I think your dad should know.

BLAIR
He does. They both do. I talked to my dad last night.

NATALIE
What did they say?

BLAIR
They're pretty upset. I can't believe I'd hurt them like that.

TOOTIE
Well, it is selfish.

BLAIR
Am that horrible and selfish to-

NATALIE
I don't think so Blair. Something stopped you. I didn't. Something in your mind clicked and said, this is dumb.

BLAIR
Sophie killed herself.

J0
I think Sophie's story was different. No one misses her.

BLAIR
Not even you?

J0
No. I used to. But I'd miss you, Blair.

TOOTIE
I would've too. That's why I got so mad.

BLAIR
I know.

TOOTIE
You forgive me.

BLAIR
Of course.

NATALIE
You forgive easy.

BLAIR
No, I don't. I forgive selectively. If I feel that my life would have a void without you in it, I'll definitely forgive you.

TOOTIE
I fill a void?

BLAIR
All three of you do. I mean, I love the Manhattanites to death but you three have taught me things that they can't cause they don't know. And, I'm starting therapy over the summer. I'm ready, I need it and my parents won't let me out of it.

She smiles and continues to paint.

NATALIE
You know what, you two don't fool us for a minute.

TOOTIE
I know. You two have sick twisted minds.

J0
We do.

BLAIR
He's in love with his monkey.

TOOTIE
Who?

BLAIR
You're man, Michael.

J0
Oh, the glove!

TOOTIE
He's so hot. You're just jealous.

J0
I want the glove.

BLAIR
You know why he has the glove?

J0
Why

BLAIR
Safe hand jobs.

Jo's eyes widen. She starts cracking up.

NATALIE
See, see, she's sick Tootie.

J0
Cause he can't...Jacko likes to whacko.

Blair and Jo start cracking up. Blair practically falls off her stool.

BLAIR
His hand is numb.

J0
Oh, no. Warner. He and the monkey are having intimate relations.

BLAIR
What does the monkey wear?

Blair and Jo can't barely speak they are laughing so hard. Natalie laughs at both of them.

NATALIE
Nothing.

TOOTIE
Nat.

NATALIE
I'm sorry Tootie, but there's just something about that man....just-

Natalie starts laughing.

NATALIE
He goes where no man has gone before.

BLAIR
Oh, Nat. Many men have gone there before. I am so sure.

J0
Many, many.

The three of them can barely control themselves. They're bodies are shaking with laughter. Tootie walks over to a table and picks up a jar filled with paint. She stands on a chair and clears her throat.

TOOTIE
Excuse me. Excuse me ladies, do you want to play?

They slowly look up to see Tootie holding the jar of paint above them. They try to regain their composure.

J0
Ohhhh, Tootie. That wouldn't be a good idea.

NATALIE
You wanna start that again?

BLAIR
I'm recovering.

TOOTIE/JO/NATALIE
You're recovered.

Blair reacts.

BLAIR
Hang on.

Blair gets off her stool and grabs a white sheet to cover the painting she was working on. She quickly puts away all other paintings in the room. She then grabs her own jar of paint.

BLAIR
All work and no play, makes me...have a dull day.

They all look at her and laugh.

BLAIR
Let's play and wait, I think Jermaine Jackson....sucks.

TOOTIE
Does not.

BLAIR
Does too.

NATALIE
Does too.

J0
Does too.

Tootie splashes paint on them and alas, another paint war begins.

BLAIR
He's gonna be a charity case one day, I know it.

J0
He's gonna realize he sucks and crawl into a hole.

NATALIE
I bet brother Michael will probably eventually pay his living expenses.

TOOTIE
And Blair, Prince Charles looks like dumbo, and Jo, John Travolta is probably and egomaniac whom I bet one day will be responsible for one of the biggest movie flops in history and Nat, don't even get me started on Sean Cassidy.

BLAIR
Oh, Tootie. Those are fighting words.

TOOTIE
Then let's fight.

They continue their paint war. They are having an amazing time, laughing.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- NIGHT

Blair, Jo, Natalie and Tootie walk into their room completely drenched in paint. They are snickering and trying to be quiet. They shut the door behind them.

BLAIR
Oh, man.

TOOTIE
Jermaine is cute.

BLAIR
Gross.

J0
Can you at least admit that Prince Charles has big ears? They look like handles.

BLAIR
You know what they say about men with big ears?

J0
Big feet.

BLAIR
Same thing.

Blair lifts up her hands and makes fists with her hands. She moves her pelvis forward and back. Jo's eyes widen. They both start cracking up.

TOOTIE
Oh, my G-d Warner you are sick.

They laugh. There is a knock at the door.

NATALIE
Come in.

Mrs. Garrett walks in.

MRS. GARRETT
Where were you girls?

TOOTIE
We were helping Blair paint?

MRS. GARRETT
Each other?

They smile. Blair and Jo exchange a look. Blair gets up.

BLAIR
Mrs. Garrett I have to thank you. You have been so wonderful to me.

MRS. GARRETT
(suspicious)
Thank you.

BLAIR
Right, Jo.

Jo stands up. The two start to move in on Mrs. Garrett.

J0
She's been amazing.

BLAIR
In fact, we want to give you a giant hug.

J0
Huge.

Natalie and Tootie smile and exchange a look. Mrs. Garrett starts to step away. Blair and Jo keep moving forward.

J0
Mrs. G. It's a thank you.

BLAIR
For everything.

Suddenly, the two of them hug Mrs. Garrett. Mrs. Garrett makes a face. Tootie and Natalie race over to them and join in the hug. Mrs. Garrett smiles.

MRS. GARRETT
You're paying for dry cleaning?

BLAIR
Every penny.

INT. AUDITORIUM -- NIGHT

It is Friday, June 11th, 1982. The stage of the auditorium has been transformed into an art show. Christine is setting up some hors o'devours while Ally is getting the drinks ready. Jason, Dina and Seth are helping Blair set up paintings.

DINA
These are truly amazing.

Ally looks over at one of them.

ALLY
That's us. Oh, Blair...why can't you ever make me tall?

BLAIR
I'm a realist.

ALLY
Bite me.

SETH
It's the last of them. Pretty, good Warner. Who knew you had talent?

BLAIR
Ha, ha.

DINA
Blair, are you sure about this one?

Dina motions to the picture of the church with the red blood stain on it.

BLAIR
Dina, I have to have that one.

DINA
But it's so creepy. That's death.

BLAIR
I know. And I need it in the show. It's...it makes it so real.

JASON
Real....dead.

SETH
Yeah, you should give Rachel credit.

JASON
True. She helped.

BLAIR
Guys.

ALLY
It's scary...it's...yucky.

SETH
It's yucky....what are you five?

ALLY
Oh, oh, this from the guy who still thinks girls have cooties.

SETH
No, only you.

BLAIR
Now, now are we regressing in age?

ALLY
Si, senorita Warner.

Blair smiles.

JASON
How are you?

BLAIR
Nervous. My last art show. I have butterflies. I'm...what is this?

People start to walk in.

BLAIR
People are coming?

DINA
Yes.

CHRISTINE
Well, it's okay. I arranged the quiche like a rainbow.

BLAIR
Yeah, cause Chris, they care.

CHRISTINE
Excuse me.

ALLY
Actually that is pretty.

BLAIR
Stunning. Chris, if your perfectly arranged quiche get more complements than my artwork I'm never speaking to you again.

CHRISTINE
Okay...sorry.

BLAIR
I am gonna flunk. They're all gonna hate me. I suck. I'm a horrible painter.

Christine, Ally, Dina, Seth and Jason look at Blair stunned.

BLAIR
Sorry, interior monologue gone haywire.

SETH
That's a new one.

ALLY
Scary.

BLAIR
Guys, seriously, gather around.

Ally, Christine, Seth, Jason, Dina and Blair huddle together in a circle.

BLAIR
Now, I'm asking cause you're my best friends and I feel comfortable exposing insecurities and doubts to you....is my stuff good? Be completely honest.

DINA
I think the thing with Rachel's blood is really creepy. We know it happened and it's real. But that seems too over the top.

SETH
I agree.

ALLY
Me too.

JASON
Yeah.

CHRISTINE
I understand what you're trying to get across but, it's a dead girls blood. And I'm she was a wonderful person, but it's a dead persons blood.

BLAIR
Okay. Let's get rid of that one.

DINA
As for the rest of them. They're really amazing.

ALLY
They tell a wonderful story.

SETH
I like them. You're good, Warner.

CHRISTINE
Really, good. The colors are very poignant.

JASON
I think they're great.

BLAIR
Good. One more thing...we haven't done this in awhile, but group hug.

They exchange looks.

SETH
Chicks on the inside.

Blair laughs. They hug.

BLAIR
Alright. Seth, get rid of the death painting.

SETH
I'm not touching that.

JASON
He's got a point.

BLAIR
Fine.

Blair walks onto the stage and takes the painting away. She comes back as Jo, Tootie, Natalie and Mrs. Garrett walk in. They walk up to Blair and her friends.

BLAIR
Hey.

MRS. GARRETT
Looks gorgeous.

NATALIE
Great looking quiche.

Blair glares at Christine.

CHRISTINE
Okay, I'll change it.

Christine rearranges her quiche.

BLAIR
Oh, Tootie I need to show you something.

Blair rushes back on to the stage and comes back carrying a framed painting.

BLAIR
Well, it didn't make it into the show, but you wanted it framed. I never back out on a promise.

TOOTIE
Mine?

BLAIR
All yours. A Warner Original.

TOOTIE
Thanks.

They hug. Mr. Parker walks up to her.

MR. PARKER
Ms. Warner.

BLAIR
Mr. Parker, hi? Do you like it?

MR. PARKER
Love it. Family and Friends?

BLAIR
Kinda. I mean, this semester has been...strange and um, I wanted to chronicle it.

JASON
I love this.

TOOTIE
That's the four of us..Blair's hospital bed. That's so sweet. Jo, she signed your cast.

Mrs. Morgan walks over to her.

MRS. MORGAN
You were right. It's always good to save the best for last.

BLAIR
Really?

MRS. MORGAN
Congratulations.

Blair smiles. Tootie gives her a quick hug. People start to pile in.

INT. LOUNGE -- MORNING

It is June 15th. Blair, Natalie, Tootie, Dina, Christine and Ally are sitting.

CHRISTINE
I can't believe. We are high school graduates!

DINA
Oh, life is good!

JASON
Superb.

SETH
Oh the future is looking so bright, I gotta wear shades.

They all look at him and laugh.

ALLY
Guys, did my valedictorian speech suck?

BLAIR
Yes.

Blair smiles.

DINA
I didn't want to say anything.

CHRISTINE
I was ashamed.

JASON
I was embarrassed.

SETH
I spit on you.

ALLY
Ha, ha. Guys.

BLAIR
The funniest...she could barely see over the podium.

They laugh. Blair, Jason, Seth, Christine and Dina quickly put their hands up to their noses and pretend they're holding the podium.

BLAIR
Hi, my name is Allyson Michelle Goldman.

CHRISTINE
Welcome, parents, teachers and congratulations to the class of 1982.

ALLY
I could too. I had heels. And you all suck.

JASON
I wanted to lift you.

SETH
Warner, you didn't see this but on the side of the podium facing us. There was a little wooden box.

BLAIR
Awww.

ALLY
Oh, go to hell. All of you.

They are all cracking up.

BLAIR
Although, you were right about Michael Andom. What happened to him?

DINA
Isn't it gross.

BLAIR
You guys don't think he's...playing hockey on the other team?

The group looks at her.

ALLY
You think he's shooting goals elsewhere?

BLAIR
Yes.

CHRISTINE
I think so.

BLAIR
But how gorgeous did John become? Al, was he a good kisser?

ALLY
He was...Antonio times ten.

SETH
He's gay.

BLAIR
No, he is so not.

ALLY
Oh, no, no.

SETH
Anyone who is that pretty-

BLAIR
Seth, I always thought you were kinda hot.

SETH
Shush.

BLAIR
Really. You know who I kissed who was awful. Charles.

ALLY
Well, you kissed a guy named Charles, what did you expect.

BLAIR
I thought he'd be a prince.

Blair laughs at her own joke.

NATALIE
I wanna know something about Blair.

BLAIR
What?

NATALIE
Something we Eastlanders don't know.

BLAIR
I tell you two everything.

TOOTIE
Doubt it.

NATALIE
We're not stupid.

SETH
Bra stuffer.

BLAIR
Shut up.

TOOTIE
Excuse me.

SETH
Fifth grade-

BLAIR
You do and I'll kill you.

NATALIE
What?

BLAIR
Fine. I-I-I really wanted-

TOOTIE
Boobs?

BLAIR
Yep. And I put tissue and-

ALLY
And she spilled juice on herself.

SETH
See, Nat, Tootie, Blair has given us some of the best comic moments in the world.

JASON
All of them involuntary.

DINA
That's why she means the world to us.

BLAIR
I hate you all.

They laugh and continue to talk.

EXT. CEMETARY -- DAY

Jo, Amy and Jessie are standing around a small headstone. There are no flowers or anything surrounding it. On the headstone are the words, "SOPHIA AMANDA BENTON JANUARY 11, 1964-MAY 23, 1982." Jo, Amy and Jessie stand silently.

INT. GIRLS BEDROOM -- MORNING

It is Wednesday, June 16th. Blair walks into the room wearing a robe. Her hair and make up are done. Jo is sound asleep. She looks over at Jo and smiles. She walks over to Jo's bed and shakes her.

BLAIR
Jo? Wake up, Jo?

Jo opens her eyes slowly.

JO
Huh?

BLAIR
Time to graduate.

JO
What?

BLAIR
I'm done in the bathroom.

JO
It's graduation. And I slept?

BLAIR
Yeah. You slept through Tootie and I's morning concert. The Go-Go's and the Police....and we're thinking of adding Bangles songs. And "Video Killed the Radio Star" is the encore.

JO
Video Killed the Radio Star?

BLAIR
In my mind and in my heart. We can't rewind-

JO
We've gone too far.

BLAIR
Pictures came and broke your heart.

JO
Someone stole my VCR?

BLAIR
Really? We thought it was, blame the VCR?

JO
Could be. Sorry I missed it.

BLAIR
That's okay. We're so glad you slept.

JO
I slept really well. How about you?

BLAIR
I slept. But I spent half the night talking with the Manhattanites.

JO
I do wish Sophie was here, you know. She's not even mentioned in the graduation...I mentioned her in my speech. I had to. But I know no one cares. They'll praise you for making it. They'll remember Cassie, Lauren and Emily and Rachel's parents will accept her diploma in her honor. I just...it's bittersweet.

BLAIR
I know. When I was taking a shower, I was thinking about it. It would've been nice. But you and I both know, life throws you punches. But hey, who would've thought we would end up friends? You were one of my biggest supporters. I can't forget that. You got up on that stand and pretty much called your childhood best friend a killer. Which she is, but, G-d, that took guts. No matter what the Manhattanites or Tootie and Natalie or Sue Ann and those guys said, I know you Jo. If you had wanted to defend her, you wouldn't haven given a rats ass what people thought or what you would've lost. You did it for you.

JO
True. Blair, I couldn't defend her. And it's not just what she did. Because if I can be blunt and totally honest, I would've have liked to have found someway to defend her because no one else was. You had pretty much everyone one your side, in terms of your friends and you were gonna be fine. But the more I talked to her, the more I studied all the facts in my head. I wrote down things regarding who both of you were. And I couldn't do it. I couldn't because I know you don't mean harm and you're not a bully. I'm considered a bully, not you. You're considered a nut job.

Blair smiles.

BLAIR
You're not a bully either. I mean, if I can take you.

Tootie and Natalie walk in.

TOOTIE
Giant steps are what we take. Walking on the moon. I hope my legs don't break. Walking on the moon....come on girls!

Jo and Blair look at Natalie and Tootie.

TOOTIE
Good morning.

BLAIR
Good morning, Sting.

JO
Hey, you two.

NATALIE
What are we talking about?

Natalie and Tootie walk over to Jo and Blair. They sit on Blair's bed.

JO
You.

BLAIR
We think you smell funny.

TOOTIE
You smell like cheese.

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
I have to thank you two as well. For everything. Natalie for helping me that night and Tootie-

TOOTIE
I'm sorry.

BLAIR
I know. Tootie, I need to stick around because your first date, no way am I leaving you in the hands of these two.

Natalie and Jo exchange looks.

TOOTIE
I agree.

NATALIE
Hey, Ms. Warner. Jo and I have had good dating experiences.

BLAIR
No, you haven't.

Blair smiles. Jo slowly takes her pillow and whacks Blair with it. They laugh.

BLAIR
I'm recovering!

JO/TOOTIE/NATALIE
You've recovered!

Blair laughs.

BLAIR
Now let's go graduate. Jo, hit the showers. And remember to use soap.

Jo gets up.

JO
Airbrain.

BLAIR
Grease Monkey.

JO
Snob.

BLAIR
Barbarian.

Jo walks to the door.

JO
Oh, do I need a gas mask before walking into the bathroom Blair?

BLAIR
Naaaw, you just need a mask in general.

JO
Ehhh, I'll let you win this one. Cause I feel bad.

Jo walks off.

NATALIE
Comin' back?

TOOTIE
I think so. You can't leave.

BLAIR
Can I graduate?

TOOTIE
Ha, ha. Do you feel okay?

BLAIR
Yeah. I'm here. My friends, my family...everyone who I care about is here today.

Mrs. Garrett walks in.

MRS. GARRETT
Blair, your fan club is here?

BLAIR
What?

Ally, Dina, Christine, Seth and Jason walk in.

ALLY
We have buttons.

Ally hands one to her. Blair laughs. The button says, "In Support of Gemini. Class of 1982".

DINA
Oh, you look divine. Simply divine.

Blair gets up.

BLAIR
So do you, Becker, my dear.

DINA
And your hair as always, a model a perfection.

BLAIR
And that coat, beautiful and.....furry.

DINA
Thanks.

BLAIR
My mind is mushy.

ALLY
See Tootie and Nat, you know how your measure of Blair coming back was when she and Jo argue?

TOOTIE
Yeah?

CHRISTINE
Ours is when Dina and Blair complement each other excessively and pretend like they're British royalty.

Dina and Blair hug and laugh.

DINA
Oh, my dah-ling. Your make up is just superb. And have you lost weight? You look simply magnificant.

BLAIR
Becker, thank you for noticing. Why I have lost 40 stones.

DINA
My, my, disappearing aren't we? My, my where have you thrown the stones?

BLAIR
Away, away. Away. Away.

TOOTIE
I think I like ours better.

NATALIE
Me too. You can hardly tell they're not British.

BLAIR
It's authentic.

DINA
Yeah. Or as the Brits would say....yeah!

TOOTIE
(in British accent)
No, it is not. Your voice does not have the same diction and tone as mine. And therefore you can not be thought of as a Royal Subject of the queen mum.

BLAIR
Oh, sure, if you compare to an actual actress.

DINA
Really. Show off.

TOOTIE
(in a British accent)
Actually, you do sound like the British natives of Texas. Are you two Texan Brits.

BLAIR
You know, oh go suck an egg.

Tootie laughs.

TOOTIE
After you, my dear.

Blair walks over to her bed, grabs her pillow and smacks Tootie with it. They are cracking up.

MRS. GARRETT
No more.

ALLY
Oh, and we have a gift. Sit.

Blair sits down. Ally hands her a giant box. Blair opens it.

BLAIR
Blair Nicole. This is beautiful.

Blair takes it out. It's a giant scrapbook and photo album.

BLAIR
Oh, my G-d.

CHRISTINE
It's your life.

Blair opens it. Everyone gathers around.

BLAIR
This is so beautiful.

DINA
Look at the end.

SETH
That was my idea.

DINA
Yeah, that you stole from me.

Blair flips to the back.

BLAIR
Dear Blair, also known as, Warner, Gemini, Nickie, Princess, Blondie and airbrain.
(she laughs)
Hope you've enjoyed the last 18 years. We've all enjoyed getting to know you, laugh with you, cry with you and being your friend. This is only the beginning. This story is to be continued.

Blair closes it.

BLAIR
Thank you.

She puts it on her bed and stands up. She opens her arms up.

SETH
Chicks on the inside.

They laugh. Blair, Christine, Ally and Dina hug. Seth and Jason join in.

BLAIR
I'm graduating!

SETH
Hey, there's no yelling in the group hug.

ALLY
How about biting? Seth get your hand off my ass.

They laugh. Mrs. Garrett smiles. This is incredibly touching to her.

TOOTIE
Hey, can we get in on this?

NATALIE
Yeah.

BLAIR
Make way.

The group opens up a little to let Natalie and Tootie into the hug.

BLAIR
Mrs. Garrett you wanna join us?

MRS. GARRETT
That's okay.

INT. AUDITORIUM -- DAY

Nancy Bowman and Elizabeth Brennan are standing in the front. Taryn Freed is standing in the second row. Jo Polnachek is standing in the third row. Blair Warner and Sue Ann Weaver are standing in the last row.

MR. PARKER
Elizabeth Sarah Brennan.

Elizabeth walks up to get her diploma. Everyone applauds.

MR. PARKER
Nancy Emily Bowman.

Nancy walks up and gets her diploma. Everyone applauds.

INT. AUDITORIUM -- MOMENTS LATER

MR. PARKER
Joanne Marie Polnachek.

Jo walks up and accepts her diploma. Everyone claps.

INT. AUDITORIUM -- MOMENTS LATER

MR. PARKER
This year proved to be incredibly rough. We experienced a tragedy and every grade was touched by a loss or an almost loss. This years senior class was no exception. In memory of their daughter, Rachel, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sorenson have decided to accept her diploma on her behalf. Rachel Karen Sorenson.

A middle aged couple walks on to the stage. Everyone stands to applaud. Jo and Blair exchange looks.

INT. AUDITORIUM -- MOMENTS LATER

BLAIR
It's our turn, Warner and Weaver.

SUE ANN
-active in lines-

BLAIR/SUE ANN
-since seventh grade.

They laugh.

SUE ANN
Did you think you'd make it all the way here?

BLAIR
Not a chance.

SUE ANN
And even though Jo became your favorite roommate, you'll always be my favorite roommate.

BLAIR
I'm just lucky that throughout my years at Eastland I was fortunate that I had two amazing roommates who both mean the world to me. Okay, four if you count Tootie and Nat. But I'm not. Although they mean the world to me too. But you will forever be Susie Annie to me.

Sue Ann smiles.

SUE ANN
You're the only person on Earth I let call me that.

BLAIR
We started school together. Now we're ending it together.

SUE ANN
As it should be.

They smile.

SUE ANN
I got so mad when you weren't standing there....right infront of me trying to make me laugh. I...congratulations, Blair.

BLAIR
You too.

They hug, tightly.

MR. PARKER
Sue Ann Elizabeth Weaver.

Blair and Sue Ann exchange a puzzled look. Sue Ann walks up and gets her diploma and walks back to her seat. Blair and Sue Ann hug.

MR. PARKER
Don't worry, Mr. and Mrs. Warner I did not forget her and I know Warner comes before Weaver. I wanted to say something. A few months ago, this school experienced a terrible tragedy. Every grade was touched by a loss or an almost loss. This years graduating class was no exception. We lost Rachel Karen Sorenson, she would've been graduating with honors. We also almost lost another vital part of the class. Without her, we'd have no one to tell us the importance of being Harvest Queen and we would not be blessed with her magnificent artistic ability. We would not see her smile, her laugh and her signature toss of the hair. This woman is the staple of the class of '82 and has proved to be the strongest. She entered Eastland at age 12 and has grown into a confident young woman. In all of my years of administration I have never admired a student as much as I admire her. Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure I introduce Blair Nicole Warner.

Blair walks up to get her diploma. The audience goes crazy, along with the seniors. She looks out into the audience. Her parents stand up, followed by Mrs. Garrett, Charlie, Rose, Ally, Christine, Dina, Tootie, Seth, Jason, Jessie, Amy, Natalie, Cindy and Molly. She smiles and waves. She looks back and sees Jo stand up as well. Nancy and Sue Ann soon follow. Soon everyone is giving Blair a standing ovation. Blair smiles. She does a little bow.

BLAIR
Wow.

MR. PARKER
You deserve it. I could not have handled what you went through with as much grace.

BLAIR
Thank you.

MR. PARKER
Would you like to say something?

BLAIR
I should.
(she leans into the microphone)
Thank you. Wow, I never thought I would say this, but I am very, very humbled. Thank you. I wanna to thank the class of 1982. I would not have pulled through with out your support and to three very special Eastland Seniors, Jo Polnachek, Nancy Bowman and Sue Ann Weaver, you three will forever hold a special place in my heart. You've made me laugh, scream and you taught me so much. From farms in Kansas to the streets of the Bronx. And to Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson, your daughter was not was only an inspiration. But a good friend who will be missed. These last few months have made me realize how truly lucky I am to have met some amazing people and to have had a chance to grow in such a wonderful place. Thank you.

Blair turns and walks towards her seat. Sue Ann and Blair hug, tightly. Jo and Nancy move down from their seats and walk over to Blair. Nancy and Blair hug and then Blair and Jo hug. The four girls stand arm in arm.

MR. PARKER
And now may I present...Blair, would you do the honors?

BLAIR
Of course.
(she steps up)
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to...Us. The class of 1982!

SUE ANN
We rock.

NANCY
And roll?

BLAIR
We're gonna rock and roll all night.

JO
And party every day.

They cheer and scream.

BLAIR
How about a Mary Tyler Moore moment?

JO
Right behind you.

The four girls take off their hats and toss them in the air. They do a group hug as the hats fall to ground.
