Star Trek actor George Takei was urged to sign up to hit series Heroes by a fan. The star, who plays Hiro's father Kaito Nakamura in the sci-fi series, admits he was alerted to the show by an admirer, and insists he was soon addicted to "Heroes" after watching a few episodes.

He says, "A fan emailed that there was a new show with a fun, nerdy Japanese 'Star Trek' fan in it. I checked it out and got hooked. When my agent called to say the producers of 'Heroes' were interested in me, I whooped! Now, I'm the powerful, mysterious father of the fun 'Star Trek' fan."
