LOS ANGELES - TV host and actor Gary Collins was arrested for investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence after a traffic accident that police blamed on another motorist, an 89-year-old man. Collins, 69, was booked after the Tuesday crash in the San Fernando Valley, said police Officer April Harding.

Collins was later released on a $40,000 bond, authorities said.

"He was not at fault in the accident," Harding said. "The other motorist failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with Collins' vehicle."

The actor's 2004 Ford Explorer subsequently crashed into two parked cars, Harding said.

"Officers smelled alcohol on his breath and initiated a field sobriety test, which he failed," she said. Collins was uninjured.

The other motorist was taken to a hospital for examination of unspecified injuries and the investigation was ongoing, Harding said.

Collins' long career includes guest roles on series such as "Yes, Dear," "JAG" and "The Young and the Restless," as well as appearances on "The New Hollywood Squares" and "Circus of the Stars."

He married Mary Anne Mobley, an actress and former Miss America, in 1967.

Here in California we are getting a new law starting in January. If you drink and drive and cause an accident where someone dies...YOU CAN BE CHARGED WITH SECOND DEGREE MURDER WHICH CARRIES A MANDATORY 15 YEARS TO LIFE.

That's the way it is...we vote, it passes and it starts in January. To give people "fair warning". Yeah, like they haven't known for a long time now that drunk driving can kill.

That show aired in the late 1980s, if I recall correctly. He replaced the first male host, Rob something-or-other.
