Ugly Betty star Becki Newton found it easy to play acid-tongued receptionist Amanda in the hit show - because she had experienced bullying first hand in the past. Newton, 28, used her experience as a struggling actress in New York to portray the horribly offensive character in the magazine-based series.

She says, "When I got the script for Ugly Betty, I just thought of every person I'd ever met in the New York fashion world and went into each audition imitating them. There very over-the-top characters really do exist. I've met them."

thank goodness that becki didn't become one in the end. i like amanda to an extent but not as much as becki- as she is a much nicer person in real life
