View Full Version : Why did Jack not like Lana bluthree 10-23-2007, 03:53 PM Can someone please tell me why Jack did not have any feelings for Lana?I could never understand why Jack kept running away from Lana? Yeah I know she was an older woman then Jack, but so what. vtunie 10-23-2007, 07:03 PM Fatal repulsion, I guess. One of those things that he did despite himself. Besides, she wanted him far too much.... Yeah, it's all very dissatisfying, but ever so true to life! :talk: Skywalker 10-23-2007, 08:01 PM I think Jack liked her, obviously not half as much as Lana liked Jack, but he was so used to being the chaser. Lana was always hitting on Jack and I don't want to say it scared him or anything, but to some guys, it's a huge turnoff. Another thing which I never really thought about, is that if Jack had dated Lana, he might have gotten thrown out of the apt. since Furley was always chasing after Lana and Jack was supposed to be 'gay' so maybe he was afraid Furley would find out. bluthree 10-23-2007, 09:09 PM I wonder what became of Lana? The last episode she appeared in was A Black Letter Day.She dumped her drink on Jack and ran off and never was scene again. catlover79 10-23-2007, 09:11 PM She was way too pushy, clingy and desperate. That's why Jack didn't like her. I Love John Ritter 10-23-2007, 10:06 PM Jack liked being the persuer. With Lana, she was the aggressive one. bingbangbaby 10-24-2007, 01:47 AM Can someone please tell me why Jack did not have any feelings for Lana?I could never understand why Jack kept running away from Lana? Yeah I know she was an older woman then Jack, but so what. Eeeuuuwww...because she was icky and whiny and desperate and...eeeuuuwww...icky. :p I didn't like that character so much, too annoying and I think Jack found her annoying too. Carrie 10-24-2007, 09:46 AM I agree. She really annoyed me too, LOL. I think she was just too aggressive for Jack. TVFactFan 10-24-2007, 11:04 AM The real reason was because she wasn't that much younger than Mrs. Roper and we no Jack wasn't ito Women that much older than him Ireneparalegal 10-24-2007, 11:10 AM She was way too pushy, clingy and desperate. That's why Jack didn't like her. Exactly. And besides, if she was like that with Jack without ever having had him, can you imagine what it would be like for Jack if he had sex with her once? She'd be all in love and her clinginess and desperation would be worse. FATAL ATTRACTION. TVFactFan 10-24-2007, 11:15 AM She was way too pushy, clingy and desperate. That's why Jack didn't like her. and almost 50 bluthree 10-24-2007, 01:24 PM I dont think Jack had a problem dating an older woman as he did got out with an older woman in season 3 in the episode The Older Woman.Of course that woman was alot nicer then Lana, and she was not trying to get Jack in bed. Ireneparalegal 10-24-2007, 02:15 PM I dont think Jack had a problem dating an older woman as he did got out with an older woman in season 3 in the episode The Older Woman.Of course that woman was alot nicer then Lana, and she was not trying to get Jack in bed. Yeah, I was trying to remember, I knew there was an episode where he dated an older woman. So, it can't be the "older woman" excuse for Jack. He just preferred a particular type of woman and Lana being desperate and clingy was just a turn-off as Monika stated on her post. catlover79 10-24-2007, 02:23 PM Exactly. And besides, if she was like that with Jack without ever having had him, can you imagine what it would be like for Jack if he had sex with her once? I hope no one has bunny rabbits in that complex!!!  Ireneparalegal 10-24-2007, 02:24 PM I hope no one has bunny rabbits in that complex!!!   Chrissy reminds me of a rabbit...those two huge ponytails on her head. catlover79 10-24-2007, 02:25 PM  Chrissy reminds me of a rabbit...those two huge ponytails on her head.  I Love John Ritter 10-24-2007, 06:50 PM  Chrissy reminds me of a rabbit...those two huge ponytails on her head.  How about when she wore three ponytails--crazy! catlover79 10-24-2007, 10:09 PM  How about when she wore three ponytails--crazy! I actually tried wearing three ponytails - that was earlier this year. :o  Ireneparalegal 10-24-2007, 10:12 PM Could it be she wore extensions of some sort, because if you really look at her hair in the first season, she didn't have so much hair. When she really gets blonde, all of a sudden she can make three ponytails??? How can that be? catlover79 10-24-2007, 10:14 PM I do know Suzanne Somers did a lot of bleaching, but I'm not sure if she wore a hairpiece or extensions of some sort to make all those ponytails. That's a good question! Jack Gomez 10-25-2007, 10:20 PM I always felt that Lana probably turned him off because she was a constant reminder of his lowest point in the series, being a male escort. "You're a call boy!?" Also, how many other male escorts has Lana been with??? BensonFan 10-25-2007, 10:29 PM Because she was way too aggressive and Jack didn't like that. Well, maybe he would if she was a young hottie but being that she was an old nottie, she was rendered a major turnoff. Plus you could tell she'd been around the block way too many times. Jack knew he could do better. tanquant 11-02-2007, 12:32 PM I always thought that Lana was fast and experienced for Jack. Not to mention that she looked old enough to be his mother. I wonder what his mom would have to say. Lana was not the type of woman to bring home to mother. They would be at the dinner table and Lana would have her foot up Jack's leg the whole while. janet42 11-02-2007, 11:42 PM Lana was too agressive for Jack. Jack like some guys like to chase women, but they do like to have women chase them. I think the Lana story would have worked out better if it just remained Mr. Furley chasing her and her resisting him until Lana see that Mr. Furley is not that bad and is a good guy in his own way, and they become friends. :) janet42 11-02-2007, 11:47 PM Lana was too agressive for Jack. Jack like to chase women, but he does not like women chase him. :) Poke1313 11-05-2007, 07:46 PM From the beginin' she was all over Jack. Jack didn't want to be her male escort, 'cause the girls would lose all respect for him. Once he was sayin' no from the beginin', I don't think anythin' would change once she moved in to the apartment complex. First impressions matter somewhat. She also told him in the beginin' that she'd had three husbands and none of them satisfied her. That is a huge red flag right there, that she's never satisfied. Plus, I guess she's been divorced a lot, so if she can never make it work with anyone, that's another red flag. It would be a matter of time, 'till Jack met the same fate as the other husbands. Not that he wanted to get married anyway, but she'd probably just end up leavin' him. She just has too many "issues". BensonFan 11-07-2007, 11:37 PM Here's another theory: She was just too SKANKY!! :rotflmao: Ireneparalegal 11-08-2007, 12:34 AM Here's another theory: She was just too SKANKY!! :rotflmao: Skanky and desperate. vtunie 11-08-2007, 12:52 AM SKANKY?? Did that word even exist back then? catlover79 11-08-2007, 01:24 AM Skanky panky - that was Lana's deal. BensonFan 11-08-2007, 10:01 PM SKANKY?? Did that word even exist back then? I don't know, but it does now and it applies to Lana. vtunie 11-09-2007, 04:19 AM Egads, you guys must all be very rich to think that Lana is cheap!! :dollar: :dollar: :dollar: :D SlayerShel 11-11-2007, 10:44 AM I never quite understood it myself. I seem to remember seeing an interview or something somewhere, they said this was one of the things about the show that was unbelievable. BensonFan 11-12-2007, 12:03 AM I never quite understood it myself. I seem to remember seeing an interview or something somewhere, they said this was one of the things about the show that was unbelievable. Yeah, in fact John Ritter said it himself, that the way Jack Tripper was portrayed he would rub up against a lamp post (or something like that!) but yet he ran away from Lana. He didn't get it either. johntealman 02-12-2008, 08:14 PM She was too old for his style. Janice 02-12-2008, 10:15 PM I don't think Lana was attractive. It would have been a better storyline had they chose a younger and prettier actress, but still older than Jack. Ireneparalegal 02-12-2008, 10:51 PM I don't think Lana was attractive. It would have been a better storyline had they chose a younger and prettier actress, but still older than Jack. That's probably why they chose her, because she looks like the kind of woman that Jack wouldn't go for. Had they chosen a prettier lady, than it would not make sense for Jack to not "go for it". catlover79 01-06-2009, 12:00 AM Yeah, in fact John Ritter said it himself, that the way Jack Tripper was portrayed he would rub up against a lamp post (or something like that!) but yet he ran away from Lana. He didn't get it either. Supposedly, John Ritter thought that Jack being repulsed by Lana was unrealistic. At least Ann Wedgeworth went onto later sitcom success with Evening Shade. sodalake 01-06-2009, 03:42 AM I never thought of Lana as being that much older than Jack and agree that I never did understand why he resisted her unless she just was someone he wasn't interested in or thought of as a friend. I liked Lana and thought her appearances were funny and I also liked how Furley chased after Lana and made her mad. It was kind of boring without Lana after she was gone. AB 01-06-2009, 11:24 PM ^ I also liked the Lana character. She was kind of aggressive in her pursuit of Jack and I suppose that may have been a turn-off for him. *Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-08-2009, 11:55 AM lol I think the answer is simple: Lana was crazy. Jack dated a lot of women that seemed to be older than him, so I'm sure that wasn't an issue. Loopie63 01-08-2009, 04:24 PM She was desperate and un-attractive. catlover79 01-08-2009, 05:20 PM lol I think the answer is simple: Lana was crazy. Jack dated a lot of women that seemed to be older than him, so I'm sure that wasn't an issue. Maybe she was the inspiration for Glenn Close's character in Fatal Attraction??   catlover79 01-10-2009, 01:35 PM Here's an interesting fact - Ann Wedgeworth and Jordan Charney played husband and wife on Another World back in the late 60s/early 70s and even headed up AW's spinoff Somerset when it debuted in 1970. Jordan Charney, of course, went to TC as Mr. Angelino. Here are pics of them from the Another World Home Page. catlover79 01-31-2009, 06:49 PM Watching the Lana episodes again...I have to say subtlety was NOT one of her strongest suits.  BensonFan 01-31-2009, 07:06 PM Watching the Lana episodes again...I have to say subtlety was NOT one of her strongest suits.  "Vroom VROOOOOOM!!" catlover79 01-31-2009, 08:06 PM "Vroom VROOOOOOM!!" I love how Jack barred the door at the end of her first episode. catlover79 01-31-2009, 08:11 PM Here are more pics of Ann Wedgeworth (Lana), Jordan Charney (Mr. Angelino), and Audra Lindley (Mrs. Roper) in character on Another World. I found these on the Another World Homepage. They all were on AW at the same time. |
