There were some folks here recently commenting that they did not like the Ricardos' first apartment. Last night I was looking at the color footage of the first apartment on the seasons 7-9 DVD, and I must say it looks sooo different in color. I found it really charming. I kept watching it over and over because I so enjoyed seeing that apartment in color. It made me wish those episodes would be colorized. One of the Lucy books claimed that the apartment was painted in shades of gray because it would look better in black and white. In fact, the replica of the set that they have at Universal Studios is gray, but this color film is proof that it was not painted gray. At least it wasn't gray in this episode, "The Audition." Perhaps they painted it gray later on, but here it's a very soft pinkish color and the doors are accented with have a soft greenish color.
Oh, and the Tropicana Nightclub looks beautiful in color!

So this is actual color footage that someone shot? How cool! Can you post a pic?

Yeah, it was recently discovered that an audience member had sneaked a camera into the studio when they filmed "The Audition." The family of this audience member made the footage available for Paramount to put into the Seasons 7-9 DVD set. It's so cool to see, and I'm so glad this person got away with breaking the rules that night! What I find interesting is that from the footage filmed of the Tropicana, as well as of the apartment, it appears this person was directly in front of each of those sets. Which indicates this individual was walking around to various parts of the seating area carrying this camera, and somehow got away with it!
I'm unable to do screen shots. My computer won't cooperate with me when I try. But I'm also reluctant to do that anyway because I know the guys who put together the seasons 7-9 DVD set. They put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and were paid little to nothing for their efforts. I also know finding this color footage was a big deal for them. So I don't think they would be happy with me if I were to post it here, and I know they had CBS's lawyers go after someone who posted it on Youtube.

I have no idea what's on this new DVD collection. I would think Paramount would have all the same stuff (bonus material included) that was included in all the other releases, plus some additional things, but who knows?
