View Full Version : Hush Little Baby
Madame X 10-23-2007, 02:46 PM I am watching "Olesen vs. Olesen." In the scene where Charles is trying to cook and makes a mess, baby Grace is "crying." OMG, it is so annoying! Her cry is a weird-sounding whine that almost doesn't sound human! It goes on and on and on while Charles struggles. I just wanted to slap that kid! :wallbang
Ireneparalegal 10-23-2007, 08:34 PM  :brent
But you know what? That was for real! OMG...what did they do to that poor child to make her cry like that for so long? I loved how Charles lost it for a split second and yelled at her.
catlover79 10-23-2007, 08:48 PM I know I've mentioned on this board that I know Brenda and Wendi (the Grace twins). Here is their version of the story, according to this fansite they gave info to:
"The twins loved being part of the happy Ingalls family (although they sometimes argued about who got to do what scene). Both twins were close to Michael Landon (who played their father, Charles Ingalls), in spite of the fact that he once gave them VERY spicy food for an episode of "Little House on the Prairie". The idea was to get Grace to refuse to eat the food that Pa had cooked - and boy did it work! Both twins refused to eat ANYTHING Michael offered them after that..."
Q&A with Wendi:
Do you have a least favorite episode of "Little House", or a scene that you didn't enjoy?
"I'm sure the episode I enjoyed the least was when Ma was gone for some reason and Pa was doing the cooking. They didn't want Grace to like Pa's cooking so they put pepper in the oatmeal. We cried and cried... we would never eat anything from Pa again."

My pleasure, Salt Sisters!! :D My mom even said, "What did they DO to that poor child??" after watching the episode with me.
Ireneparalegal 10-23-2007, 09:17 PM My son is having a tantrum as I type this...MY HEAD HURTS!!!! So, reading this thread and hearing him crying fits just right in.

Well! That explains it! If Pa put salt in the oatmeal instead of pepper, there would be no crying. Right, salt sisters?

AMEN SISTA AMEN!!!!! :notworthy
catlover79 10-26-2007, 05:56 PM Wendi was the baby used in the crying scene, and Brenda was the calmer baby chatting with Ma earlier in the episode before leaving. They revealed that at a Q&A panel at the Tombstone Festival in 2005.

Thanks for the info, Kitty Cat. Knowing things about behind-the-scenes helps to explain stuff we can only speculate about (and jump to conclusions). I will never again watch that scene and want to strangle Grace. I hope Wendi can understand that at that time I wanted to slap her, but I don't now! Wendi and Brenda turned out to be beautiful women and it was great to have them on one of my favorite shows. :)

Oh, I'm sure they wouldn't be offended. They are both very sweet with great senses of humor. Keep in mind that they are both mothers in real life with young kids...so they have dealt with their fair share of tantrums.
catlover79 11-17-2007, 11:42 PM Here are some recent pictures of Brenda and Wendi taken at a Little House fan event in June 2007. I found these pictures on http://prairiefans.com:
Ireneparalegal 11-17-2007, 11:44 PM How beautiful they are!!!! If you look at their faces, you can see "Grace" as a baby. Awwwwwwww.
catlover79 11-17-2007, 11:48 PM The girls are just as sweet, humble and kind as they are beautiful. They are seated between Karen Grassle and Charlotte Stewart in the last photo. You know...the teacher with the thong??

OMG, let me see that pic again. I was focusing on the girls.
Ireneparalegal 11-17-2007, 11:53 PM Ok, yeah, I seen them. Are there any recent pics of Karen and Charlotte anywhere?
catlover79 11-17-2007, 11:58 PM Ask and you shall receive:
Ireneparalegal 11-18-2007, 12:02 AM Awwww Charlotte really is pretty. Love her hair! and of course, Karen is still looking young and beautiful. Wow! Karen had such lovely long hair, I guess getting older she didn't want to deal with long hair and chopped it off.
catlover79 11-18-2007, 12:10 AM There were truly some fine-looking folk to come out of Walnut Grove. :D
schoolmom 11-18-2007, 05:51 PM In the Oleson vs. Oleson episode, while Ma is gone, Pa tells Laura that Grace
won't eat anything except sugar, and she cries all the way through that!
