We've talked a lot about Lucy's wonderful outfits, but I am interested in Ethel's attire also. It seems Lucy and Ethel have a set of "housedresses," dresses for outings and meetings, and formal wear.

I like how many of Ethel's housedresses have geometric designs around the collar or yoke. Here are some of her most memorable ones:

And she always said she only had "one" dress.

I never could get the arrows design dress.

I like the dark one with the arrows the best.

I like the dark one with the arrows the best.

A friend of mine sewed her own version of that dress and wore it to a Lucy convention!

That might be her most well-known dress because it is so unusual. She wore the one in the first picture a lot during the first two seasons, but it wasn't quite as memorable as the "arrow dress." :)

^ It seems dresser than the others and she really looks good in it.

In the lower right hand corner? Are those arrows? I can't tell.

I was referring to the one on the lower left where she's standing in front of the open door. I like the neckline and the whole style of that dress.

Here's another one of Ethel's geometric dresses I saw on Cuban Pals. I wonder if this dress is ever worn again.

I have a question about a Lucy outfit.......just what was the deal with wearing slacks and then having a split skirt over those slacks??

What outfit are you talking about?

Wearing a skirt or dress over pants is still done today. A long dress over leggings is what I think you mean. What the deal was is comfort! Ever wear a dress??

I'm a guy.......no need to wear a dress! Not even if my name was Boy George or Pete Burns!

Sorry, but I have never seen that in real life. This is not leggings--these are SLACKS.

And I think other people may know what I'm referring to.

Yeah, I know the outfit you're talking about. I have no clue what the deal was with that either! You're right, they were slacks not leggings.

If you want to see some of those outfits, check out an older discussion about them from a thread called "Odd Moments" from Oct. 07! :happyface

.

Ah ha. Well I refer to a straight legged lounging type pant as "leggings". Sorry for all the dreadful confusion! ;) There are 2 famous outfits Lucy wears that have a dress over these let's just call them PANTS then. In LA AT LAST she meets Bill Holden in that pretty black outfit (and that dress turns up in 9 other eps. Then she also had the white dress with green and red print over the red
loungingpantsleggingsslacks. As I said earlier people are still layering dresses over pants and leggings. So I don't find anything weird about that.

Did you look at the old thread link with the pics? there are two outfits on there that match what I am describing.

Yes I did indeed. And the 2 dresses I mentioned were there. So I guess it's more the "look" than the actual dresses. I see. Hey it was a "looK but this one sure was UGLY!! It made Lucy look ENORMOUS!! At least the other "dress over loungelegginspants" look slim and flowing and elegant. This just looks totally stupid! She looks like she's gonna wait tables or something.

I knew immediately what you were referring to Jude. Thanx to Stacy for finding that old thread above. I so bad want to know the name of that thingamajig. It is ugly. I realize it was a style from the 50's. Some casual/loungewear. It definitely made Lucy look large in the hips, something she accused Ethel of on her birthday.

Hey thanks for digging up that thread Madame X. You know what's funny? I don't even remember the thread and I posted on it!
