One thing I've always wondered about was what was Thelma Lou's job supposed to be? I don't recall it ever being mentioned. She didn't have an inheritance to live on...:D

For some reason I'm thinking she was some type of secretary. It seems like she referred to it on one of the early episodes but I may be wrong.

According to THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW BOOK by Ken Beck & Jim Clark (1985): Thelma Lou (we're never told her last name) works in an office in
town (we're also never told exactly where she works or what she does). She,
Andy and Barney all graduated from high school in Mayberry in 1945. She
has one brother and two cousins, is in the town choir and plays the piano.
She is a good cook. After Barney moved to Raleigh, she left Mayberry and
settled down in Jacksonville, where she married Gerald Whitfield, the foreman
of a wrecking crew.

I doubt they told all of that in one episode, but the part about Andy, Barney, & Thelma Lou all being in the same class and about her moving and getting married does all come from the class reunion episode.

I thought I saw on 1 of the closing credits that her last name was Dobbs ??

The only thing I can recall is her making some allusion to "the office" in at least one ep. So to me it's implied she is a secretary, clerk, bookkeeper, or something, as she seems 'learned' but not really professional, like she went to a one or 2 year business school. But as she had her own house, maybe she did have an inheritance or insurance settlement, or else she's just thrifty and saves and spends money right.
