View Full Version : What's your latest Lucy type purchase?
SPLAIN 10-19-2007, 01:55 PM I just last week finally transferred all my Lucy on VHS to DVD, no more vhs in the house. Now lately, i'm stunned by all the Lucy type things avaiable for us to buy. I'm waiting that I Love lucy boxed set on Oct 23rd. I just got the Untouchables season one volume two which has the Lucy show, Lucy the Gun Moll on it in special features. I await the Facts of Life movie with Lucy and Hope in the next little while. That great Lucille Ball film collection was one of the best yet, with foive great Lucy films including her greatest drama The Big Street all the way to her final act, MAME. I bought the Hepburn and Esther Williams collections to get the one Lucy film on each of those. Lucy's best moments compilation which i loved, point is, there's so much out there right now, why can't they release The Lucy show season by season, so we can have more of her great 500 plus tv shows to add to our collections from the greatest tv performer of all time. No, every horrible tv show that was ever made is on sale but not one of the highest rated by tv's greatest star.
tv star collector 10-19-2007, 06:11 PM I found a very cheap copy of THE LUCY SHOW on 2 DVDs at a flea market a
few months ago. It features guest stars Carol Burnett, Milton Berle, George
Burns, Tennessee Ernie Ford and (in a funny cameo) Jim Nabors. A great buy
for a low, low price. That's the latest Lucy item that I have.

The reason for the low, low price is because, due to someone's screw-up years ago at Paramount, the copyright on those episodes lapsed and they fell into the public domain. So no royalties are being paid on them. If you wanted, YOU could sell those episodes and not be subject to any penalties. The same thing happened with a bunch of episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show, The Mothers-in-Law, and a few other '60s series.
NOVARick 10-20-2007, 03:47 AM My latest Lucy purchase happened this week: I finally got the first season of I Love Lucy. I had put off buying it for years because it's my least favorite season. But I thought, what the heck? I may as well have the complete series. And besides, there are still some good moments from the first year that are worth having.
coffield3 10-20-2007, 05:17 AM Season 2 I love lucy dvd! :)
comedyfreak 10-20-2007, 05:49 AM I have I Love Lucy all six seasons, which bugs me cause they're releasing the complete set with new bonus features. I'm not about to buy something I already have, I'll just have to go without that bonus disc or features.
I have an assortment of Lucy magnets, pictures, a picture frame, movies, and a couple of Lucy barbies and also an I Love Lucy bottle of wine.

I hate it when they release the complete boxset out afterwards!
comedyfreak 10-20-2007, 09:20 AM Yeah, if I had known that then I would have waited.

That's my least favorite season too. But hey, at least you can watch Drafted anytime you want to.

OH Nuts! 10-21-2007, 04:23 PM My latest purchase was Season 2. I have Season 1 and I have to say I LOVE IT. Lucy Does A Commercial is from this Season--a classic ep.

Yeah, I found copies of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES in the "bargain bin" at Wal-Mart, featuring public domain episodes.
The only catch is they don't contain the original TV theme music (which
evidently wasn't in the public domain at the time ... an irony now since
Food Lion--a supermarket in this region--uses that same theme music from
Andy's show in their radio commercials!) Certain episodes of BONANZA were
released in the same manner on both VHS and DVD without the original music.

I grew up in your part of the country, so I'm very familiar with Food Lion. But I miss Harris Teeter!
SPLAIN 10-22-2007, 03:35 PM Hallmark might have skipped Lucy this year, but Carleton didn't make the same mistake, so i got two of theirs. Now I'm looking for the calendars too.
SPLAIN 10-24-2007, 11:22 AM Oh and i forgot to mention that great Lucy at the Movies book, one of the best illustraded Lucy books ever, that aws worth waiting for, now if only Wanda nd Frank would get going with their Lucy books too.

Those should both be interesting books. I had the pleasure of meeting Frank a few months ago and, having worked for her for 30 years, he has some wonderful stories to tell. You know that footage of Lucy and Desi in the pool with their grandson, Simon? Frank was the one holding the camera. And Lucy was apparently giving him directions the whole time as if he were shooting a TV show!
catlover79 10-24-2007, 12:17 PM A black "Vintage Lucy" T-shirt. It has the heart logo, pictures of grapes and a big picture on both the front and back of Lucy in the grape vat.
Ireneparalegal 10-24-2007, 12:24 PM I swear, when I get a chance, I have to take a pic of my items. I have an ILL purse. Everywhere I go I get nice comments abt it. I bought it at our local county fair. It is beautiful.
Madame X 10-24-2007, 12:28 PM I just recently purchased Bart Andrews' other book, An Illustrated Tribute to Lucille Ball: Loving Lucy, with a foreward by Gale Gordon. It has a lot of photos and information. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but at a quick glance, there are photos I've never seen before.
The items I would like to purchase in the near future are: A Book, by Desi (expensive), and Lucy's Really Lost Moments on DVD.
The DVD is $12.99 on Amazon and got great reviews. I figure it's worth the gamble and I can get the segment where Lucy and Desi appear on What's My Line. I have it on VCR and the quality is not too good. The DVD has other things on it too, so I am hoping I'll be surprised and entertained for only $12.99! We'll see...

Oh yeah, i wear my I Love Lucy purse everywhere too, but i get different types of comments, being a guy and all, LOL!

I suggest you break down adn buy that Lucy's greatest compilation, i thought it was terrific.

Hey Splain- When you are referring to Lucy's greatest compilation, do you mean her book Love,Lucy, the DVD I mentioned, or something else? :)
SPLAIN 10-25-2007, 01:52 PM Hey Splain- When you are referring to Lucy's greatest compilation, do you mean her book Love,Lucy, the DVD I mentioned, or something else? :)
Sorry, i meant that dvd, it was much better than i expected and had lots of stuff on it, saved us all transferring our copies of those things from vhs as this one had it all. I think Love Lucy is terrific also, but i wish both Lucy and Desi's books had been covering later periods instead of ending so soon, his after the last Lucy Desi hour and hers at the beginning of The Lucy show.
Lodee 10-25-2007, 02:02 PM Madame X, I got Desi's book on ebay pretty cheap. Seems like it was maybe $5 or so. It's a paperback though.

Lodee 10-26-2007, 11:44 AM Ya gotta love Ebay.
SPLAIN 10-26-2007, 02:08 PM Ya gotta love Ebay. EXACTLY! I used to spend my days in the Lucy section on E Bay.;)
SPLAIN 10-29-2007, 10:06 AM What a weekend this was, the I Love Lucy boxed set AND the I Love lucy calendars too, big and small versions, it's the ROAD TRIP this year.
