View Full Version : Can you Believe this guy? The Strangest Ebay Experience I ever had in my life
TVFactFan 10-16-2007, 09:49 PM I won this magazine and kind of forgot to pay for it because so many things happen in the past 2 weeks. So a unpaid item claim was open on me and I said-"OH **** i forgot to pay and did that today and after paying for the item and asking the seller when it would be mailed, this is the response I got
"WE ARE OUT OF TOWN AND WILL MAIL YOUR ITEM wHEN WE RETURN.
So i said F*ck the item and I demanded a refund and will dispute through paypal tomorrow. I don't even want the item anymore. I can't believe that someone would send such a rertarded a$$ email after I made a payment
Ireneparalegal 10-16-2007, 09:53 PM Well, they are going out of town, is it their fault you forgot?
Hollow 10-16-2007, 10:00 PM what are they supposed to do? it was up to you to pay on time....not their fault you didn't remember until they were temporarily unable to ship the item.
TVFactFan 10-16-2007, 10:01 PM Well, they are going out of town, is it their fault you forgot?
I received no return date after paying my money. they can be out of town until nov 8th. So i just didn't like the email

Ireneparalegal 10-16-2007, 10:06 PM I received no return date after paying my money. they can be out of town until nov 8th. So i just didn't like the email
Exactly. They can be out of town til January for all they care. They obviously put the item up for auction and when you bid on an item that is auctioned, you have the responsibility to pay up ASAP and abide by the seller and how they go abt getting you your item.
And just because you didn't like the tone of the email gives you no contractual right to bow out of the deal. It is no one's fault you have a bad memory. If that is the case, and you have too much on your mind, don't bo bidding on items on ebay. ;)

So it's ok for a seller to say-"I DON"TKNOW" to a buyer after asking when the item would be mailed?

Read between the lines Solomon. I believe they are ALREADY ON VACATION...they may have access to a computer or have a laptop, therefore, they don't know offhand when they can mail that out to you.
It says above "WE ARE OUT OF TOWN..."

Unless they've changed their rules, Paypal won't do anything until 30 days have passed and even then they won't take any kind of action based on what you've mentioned here. Paypal will only intervene if you don't receive the magazine and it's up to the seller to prove you got it by providing a tracking #.
If you have a confirmed address and the seller can prove it was shipped there then you might as well forget it. If the seller hasn't left you a negative comment then I suggest that you just be patient and let him ship the magazine when he returns. He waited on you to make payment so extend him the same courtesy.

Well, it seems they are wanting to continue doing business with you even though you didn't extend them the courtesy of remembering to pay for your item on time. Sorry Solomon, you are completely in the wrong here.

And with nothing directly personal to you, I don't really do business with buyers who act as you did. When you buy something, you're expected to render payment as soon as possible. If paying via Paypal/Credit Card, that pretty much means as soon as you're online after winning the auction, if by Check (which I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone you NEVER pay by) or Money Order (Better than Check, but still not great) as soon as the thing gets there.
I wouldn't have even waited as long as the seller in your instance did - and considering you made *him* wait because you "kind of forgot to pay for it", I think waiting because he's out of town is perfectly justifiable.

The point I'm trying to make is I DON"T KNOW WHEN THEY ARE RETURNING. So i feel like i was robbed because I have no info on when my item will be mailed
Ireneparalegal 10-17-2007, 02:51 PM And that is YOUR FAULT. Had you rendered payment ASAP, they would have mailed you the item quickly. But, you decided to forget abt paying them and now you are upset because they went on vacation.
Considering they are on vacation, you are damn lucky you even got a response. So, you deserve to feel the way you do because frankly, anyone else might not even bothered giving you notice they are on vacation.
You better hope they are not traveling Europe. That can take a LONG TIME.

I understand what you're saying but the seller doesn't owe you a timeline on his return. You should allow him sufficent time to return and ship your magazine. After all as most of us have stated, You are at fault here.
You should also consider the fact that there's probably other buyers who are also waiting for him to return & I just wonder how many of them are as impatient as you. All things considered, I wouldn't blame the guy if he added you to his blocked bidder list.

Are you asking the seller for a refund or are you filing a complaint with Paypal?
TVFactFan 10-17-2007, 03:16 PM Are you asking the seller for a refund or are you filing a complaint with Paypal?
I'm asking for a refund through paypal since I was told-"I DON't KNOW" when asking when my item would be mailed. I don;t accept I don't know when you have recieved my money, i need a time frame

Wait a minute, You can't accept his answer after you took 2 weeks to send payment and only did so after a non-paying bidder alert was filed? It's not his fault that you didn't pay on time and he has stated that he will ship it upon his return. You're extremely lucky that he didn't give you negative feedback and relist the magazine. So far I think the seller has been very patient with you.

Is this the entire E-mail?
"WE ARE OUT OF TOWN AND WILL MAIL YOUR ITEM wHEN WE RETURN.
If it is, Did the seller use all caps or did you do that? Surely you don't consider this nasty.

Yes that was the email in all caps and no return date was mentioned which basically saying-"I REALLY DON"T KNOW WHEN I"M GOING TO MAIL YOUR ITEM"
Zoneboy 10-17-2007, 03:56 PM One other thing, Since this is a magazine, I'll bet that the seller will ship media rate unless you paid for priority. If that's the case then you're looking at anywhere from 7-10 dayd before you get it and possibly longer.

he won;t have to ship anything because i already requested a refund and don;t want the magazine
Ireneparalegal 10-17-2007, 04:22 PM You may with that nasty attitude cause the seller to post a negative feedback abt you. Refund or not. I am sure ebay will look into this matter since you asked for a refund. They will want to know the details and as far as they will be concerned, the seller will have ebay in their corner since they did nothing wrong.
You are asking for a refund. Good. But that doesn't mean the seller didn't hold up their end of the bargain. You goofed on this one. You want $$$$ back IMMEDIATELY, but you didn't have the courtesy to pay for the item IMMEDIATELY when it was required. The seller took your flimsy excuse (I forgot) why can't you just be nice abt it and wait? I don't think you want a negative feedback attached to your name do you?

It doesn't have to be immediately, I just have no interest in doing business with him and want my money back before November.
TVFactFan 10-17-2007, 05:42 PM So s a seller would you have told me when you were returning or just say I will mail it when I return?
Ireneparalegal 10-17-2007, 06:08 PM If I was on vacation, you would be DAMN LUCKY to have even received a response from me. I wouldn't have bothered. If you didn't pay me on time, then I would not even bother with you.
The point is, you are pissed because these people went on vacation. Had you paid up immediately, you'd have that magazine in your hands right now rather than griping abt seller(s) who owe you nothing for your flimsy excuse. You got a response that in my opinion, is more than you deserve. You know how many fools don't pay for the items they bid on ebay? You think those people are going to wait around for you to pay them when they have lives and a vacation to tend to?
Zoneboy 10-17-2007, 06:19 PM I sell on eBay and if it were me & I were on vacation you probably wouldn't get a reply unless it was an automatic one and it would be something similar to the one you received. You only have yourself to blame and you won't find anyone who agrees that what you did was right. Not to mention how petty your argument is. Look at this thread, too many posts telling you the same thing. You just don't get it.

Are you wanting to know when the seller plans to ship or when you can expect to receive it? Once the seller ships the item, They have no control over how long it takes to reach you. I've seen more than one seller get an undeserved negative comment because of the postal taking too long to deliver a package.

That is understandable. The first time I dealt with ebay, I wasn't comfortable with the whole paypal thingy either. I mean, giving my credit card info... The worst thing that can happen is that you have to wait awhile for the magazine. But ebay is good abt these things. If you want a refund, that is your choice, I just feel you should give these people a chance since they let you "slide" because you forgot. I am sure if you allow these people to mail you the product, you can email them after, thank them for their patience and that you are deeply sorry for making the payment late. You can tell them you had personal problems and it slipped your mind. Things happen Solomon, they will understand.

You need to look at this from the sellers point of view.

It is NOT the sellers job to remind you to pay for an item that you decided to purchase. If you are able enough to sign onto ebay and buy something than you should be able enough to remember to pay for it! If you need to be reminded like a five year old child to pay for something you bought.. than you really have no business using ebay.
