That episode did serve as the pilot for Andy's series, but it never was part of
THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW package per se. It was an episode of THE DANNY
THOMAS SHOW. By the same token, "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (the pilot for Jim
Nabors' spin-off) was aired on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW--so it isn't technically a segment of the GOMER PYLE series, either. The pilot for THE
JOEY BISHOP SHOW was also aired on Danny's show--but it is included on
THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW Season 2 DVD.

Danny Williams (Danny Thomas) was arrested for speeding in Mayberry.

In it though, most things weren't the same as they were in TAGS. The exterior of the courthouse was the same, but the interior was different, Andy was also the newspaper editor, he had 2 desks, no deputy, the town drunk was played by someone else (I forget if he had the same name), and the cells looked a little different.
Ron Howard played his son still, but I don't think they said his name, and Francis Bavier played a widow. Oh yes, and they didn't show the Taylors house. They mentioned their housekeeper though, but it wasn't the same one that got married and left on the first episode of TAGS.

This episode is available as a bonus in the Make Room For Daddy Season 5 DVD set and now in the recently released The Andy Griffith Show all-season boxed set. Unfortunately, it has been edited by about 2 and a half minutes in both of these sets.

Strange, because the episode had been released uncut on VHS a number of years ago, but is now out of print.
