Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo was stunned to be recognized by fans of the hit TV show while holidaying in Italy. The 37-year-old actress, who plays Meredith Grey in the drama series, was unaware the show was so popular outside America.

She tells People.com, "They're quite surprised to see me there. They just can't believe I'm in Italy. It's sort of out of context for them. They say 'Meredith! Meredith! It's you, Meredith! Oh my God, could it be Meredith?' "

I think I would be surprised too because I'd be in a different country and I wouldn't expect them to know about Grey's Anatomy. I wouldn't expect it to be popular somewhere other than the U.S. but I'd be happy to know that the show I was in is so popular.

we have just about to finish season 2 on Living TV and i for one cannot wait until series 3

Season 3 was really good! It must be so frustrating for the foriegn fans to be behind the US. Esp. on a show like GA, w/ all the twists and turns.
