View Full Version : If you go out to a restaurant to eat and discover it's 30 people in the
TVFactFan 10-14-2007, 12:29 AM waiting area, do you leave and try another restarunt or
stay and wait for 35/40 minutes which is added to the wait time once you are seated?
I went out to eat tonight with my friends and I ws so mad that they decided to wait after seeing so many people outside waiing to be seated. I mean it's not like it was the only restarunt on the planet-lol
Zoneboy 10-14-2007, 12:31 AM It depends on the restaurant, If it's Olive Garden or Outback then I'm staying.
Max Whittaker 10-14-2007, 12:35 AM Depends on the restaurant. Depends on my mood. Depends on my appetite. Depends on the company.
Generally, if it's too crowded or noisy, I'd sooner stay at home than eat there.

Well even with my favorte places i look at it as-"It' always another day and just can go to a nearby restarunt that's less crowded. I was so PISSED tonight but really hiding it from everyone
Nighthawk76 10-14-2007, 12:45 AM I'd probably find a different restaurant. But I tend to be a little impatient at times.
HE Pennypacker 10-14-2007, 12:46 AM I'm out. I don't wait to be seated. Surprisingly enough, this has only ever happened to me at IHOP....and I already have other issues with IHOP.

I see your point but since you live in Philadelphia, I would assume that your favorite places are nearby. The ones I mentioned are about 30 miles away so when I have a craving for their food, That's what I want. Luckily, I've never had to wait no more than 20 minutes to be seated at either place.
dawsongirl 10-14-2007, 01:06 AM Depends on how hungry I am. But no amount of fullness will make me wait 45 mins or more for a table. I don't wait well.
dawsongirl 10-14-2007, 01:08 AM But I tend to be a little impatient at times.
When I'm hungry, waiting makes me go into a panic attack, because I get sick if I get too hungry. I'm terrible waiting. This is why my purse usually has food in it.

Yup,and then the waiting area time is added to the table waiting time and you really HUNGRY!!!!-lol

Exactly!

Then you're in a foul mood, and then you're rude to the waiter and don't tip him, then his mood suffers, and he's rude to another patron....
And the cycle goes on, and on, and on...
Dean Winchester 10-14-2007, 02:08 AM depends on the place really and what's in the vicinity around. Like awhile back I went with someone to Buckheads and there was a 45 minute wait, so we decided screw it and went to IHOP right next to it, where we were seated as soon as we walked in
Number 9 Dream 10-14-2007, 09:53 AM I think it really depends on the restaurant or the mood I'm in. If I'm really hungry, I'd rather not wait 40 minutes for a table.
However, there have been times that I was craving that specific type of meal (like the one time my friend and I waited 45 minutes to get in to Cheesecake Factory), that I'll wait a long time.
coffield3 10-14-2007, 10:15 AM Depends on the place! if its my regular i would wait because it would be worth it.:)
theshark8777 10-14-2007, 11:36 AM On the weekends here at dinnertime, there is always a 40-60+ minute wait to eat, so it's nothing new here. I have waited that long at Outback many times.

Someone mentioned Outback is like that all the time. But there are no LESS POPULAR restarunts in your area that you can go to?
theshark8777 10-14-2007, 11:41 AM Not on a Friday or Saturday night, they are all like that around here. Unless you hit them at the right time.

So you are telling me that EVERY SINGLE restarunt in your area on a friday or saturday is crowded? Why do I have a hard time believing that?-lol I know there are some places in your area that is not crowded on a fri or sat
theshark8777 10-14-2007, 12:16 PM You wanna come over, I'll take ya out to see for yourself.
TVFactFan 10-14-2007, 12:19 PM You wanna come over, I'll take ya out to see for yourself.
So everyone in your town eats out on fri and sat?
theshark8777 10-14-2007, 12:29 PM You have to take into account I don't live in a city the size of Philly.

Yeah but I just thought it would be one restarunt that's not crowded like
Applebee's
Bennigans's
Denny's
theshark8777 10-14-2007, 12:40 PM Believe it or not Applebee's is one of the most crowded here!
They closed our Denny's so it must not have been too crowded lol!

I think you need to get a complete listing of all the restarunts in your area because I know it's one that's not crowded on the weekends
Courtnee 10-14-2007, 02:03 PM It depends on the restaurant. Most of the time, We'll go somewhere else.
tdf4077 10-14-2007, 05:17 PM Not on a Friday or Saturday night, they are all like that around here. Unless you hit them at the right time.
Even during the week, it's like that here. Unless you go to a dive, virtually every restaurant has a minimum of a 15 min. wait most days of the week if you go between like 5:30 and 8.
Ireneparalegal 10-14-2007, 05:21 PM It depends on the restaurant, If it's Olive Garden or Outback then I'm staying.
Definitely I would stay if it is Outback or something similar. We just kill time in the bar area having a few cocktails and some appetizers. No big deal. Usually those are the places that are worth waiting for.
dawsongirl 10-14-2007, 11:24 PM The most time I've ever waited was like 90 mins at a place in Austin, TX. It was a very good thing that there were free chips to eat, otherwise I would have gotten very sick. But I had no say in the matter since I was being taken out by people I just met. Yay for free chips!

Why in the world would you wait 90 minutes to get in a restarunt? That had to be the only restarunt that was open in your area

Because I was a guest in someone else's party, and out of town. Had I been with my family around here, we would have left.
catlover79 10-15-2007, 08:56 AM I guess it depends on how hungry I am.

One time I went to a Buffet and the line was out the door!
I skipped the line and went and ate.... When I was done,THERE WAS NO LINE! (So I just paid then)
Caroline13 01-31-2023, 01:46 PM I'd wait if there were maybe 6 ahead of me, but not much longer. No matter how great the restaurant is supposed to be, unless I was drunk and time didn't matter.
Theda Bara 01-31-2023, 06:30 PM I am a very impatient person, so I would most definitely leave and go somewhere less crowded. Or just go home and make my own meal (I am a pretty decent cook ;) ).
Bonniegirl 01-31-2023, 09:42 PM No way ! I don't even like a few people ahead of me wait ! If I can't be seated right away, off to another restaurant , no matter how good the place is!
Like the original poster ( TVFact fan )said, " It's not the only restaurant on the planet" ;)
Esp. If you are in a big city there are a million places to dine , I'm way too impatient( and hungry) to wait ! :D
Bonniegirl 01-31-2023, 09:48 PM I'd wait if there were maybe 6 ahead of me, but not much longer. No matter how great the restaurant is supposed to be, unless I was drunk and time didn't matter.
True! Now if there were only a few people ahead of me for a wait of a table and the bar had room to have a couple drinks before the table was ready, that would be OK ! But I've always found if there was a wait for a table the bar was crowded too, no room to sit really and than you know your drinks wouldn't come quickly either ! :(:p
So, I still stick with leave and find a less crowded restaurant! ;)
Yong Fang 02-03-2023, 12:55 AM I remember when I was a young teenager with my parents at a restaurant with about ten people waiting for a table. The waiting area was a bit seperated from the dining room. I needed to use the bathroom and walking there I notice the dining room almost empty. This means to me the place had few staff to take care of the people wanting to dine there.
This was many years ago and then it should not have been difficult for a restaurant (and this was a popular local chain) to find young people to wait tables. The management should know every week how many customers come in the place and staff accordingly. I told my parents and wanted to leave but they wanted to wait and so we did.
No one eats out on the weekend anymore. The restaurants are too crowded.
Dude111 02-03-2023, 03:31 PM Has anyone done what I did and skipped the line as it was too long and then after you ate you went and paid??
I know they dont want most ppl doing that because most people would walk out w/o paying afterwards.......
