hey i saw some reviews on amazon and it showed that it got five stars, cbs/paramount must have read the nagative reviews and feed back from how many fans was upset about season 2 hopefully they made season 3 good and may have finally got some of the music rights, i also read allot of good comments on season 3 it looks like they are doing all they can but i hope that it will be worth buying because paramount/cbs cannot affored to screw this beloved season up we have waited too long

Did you read any of those reviews? Nobody's seen the actual DVD set yet, so the reviews are either about the actual season itself or what people think or hope the DVD set will be like.

studd911: We will get the set in a few weeks. No one has it right now. So stay tuned, but there will be no original music.

hey anglemark good too hear from you again, as for what i read on amazon, i saw 5 reviews on season 3, and it said that the dvd will cost $29.49 like season 2, i recently called amazon.com and they told me that on there page that allot of hd fans gave season 2 a big f and they even said that 52 reviewers had complained about the lack of picture quailty, the sound and music replacements and a couple of missing scenes, but based on what i read it looks like they are given season 3 five stars, amazon told me that ocassionally the company that gives them the product too sell they usually read all of the comments, which is why i hope that they will not screw up season 3 because if season 3 is like season 2 with everything missing i cannot see cbs/paramount going through with the other seasons you no that fans are going to complain which they have a good reason too, but what ever happenes happens i just hope the series is worth buying but here are the quotes and reviews from other people about the season 3 but again cbs/paramount bet have read these reviews because it is what the fans want too see peace

I hate when ignorant people give WRONG info, October 3, 2007
By TheRealDeal (mAssachusetts) - See all my reviews

um, "truthteller" guess your're not "FACT" teller. Rock Around the Clock was replaced in the second season with the Happy Days theme. THAT'S THE WAY IT IS! Gad I hate when people who don't know, speak. As for the rest, hopefully this is as good as possible, the more original music, the better. Season 2 wasn't so bad, it's still better than nothing Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

I've been hoping they would continue releasing seasons. This is the quintessential season I've been waiting for. Fonz at his most popular, before he became a cartoon of himself. Yeah! Comment (1) | Permalink
Season 3 is the best Happy days season of them all! We get to see Fonzie jump his motorcycle and crash it into Arnold's chicken stand, the dance contest with Charlene Tilton, Ralph destroys Fonzie's motorcycle, and Fonzie does his "Elvis" impersonation. This is also the only season where Pat Morita plays Arnold!

I'll be pre-ordering this one for sure! Comment (1) | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

okay chances are the original music has been replaced but hopefully the video quality will be better lets not jump to any conclusions just yet. Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

just a heads-up to those of you who care, or are just tuning in...
season two edited out the original music in favor of an inept clipart soundtrack. rock around the clock was also replaced during the opening credits. the video quality of season two was inconsistent...very poor in some scenes, and okay in others. if you are looking for the real stuff, my advice to you would be to wait until this thing is reviewed thoroughly before deciding to venture any hard-earned cash on it. i loved happy days as a kid, but season two was so disappointing that i traded it in for store credit toward something else. ***PLEASE DO NOT REPEAT MY MISTAKE. I WISH I HAD WAITED BEFORE BUYING SEASON TWO.***

here are all of the nagative reviews about season 2 which at this point i now that nobody really cares but i thought you all wanted too see and hear all of the negative feed back
I don't know what these other critics are talking about. This collection deserves five stars because it DOES have the original music, including the song "Happy Days" at the beginning of each episode, in this collection. And unless the original second season had the song "Rock around the clock" at the beginning of each episode instead when they original aired, - which I was too young to remember back then - then it DOES have ALL of the original music. The collection is a MUST for any reasonable "Happy Days" fan, at least. Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

These are our Happy Days!, August 23, 2007
By Tripp Rogers "Radiodude" (The Jersey Shore) - See all my reviews

Another series long overdue for DVD treatment...kinda disappointed it too so long after 1st set. the 2nd season is when the show started to come into it's own and storylines and characters became more of what we remembered... Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

Why?, July 31, 2007
By Steen Kærsgaard (Copenhagen, Denmark) - See all my reviews

My two favorite shows growing up in Denmark was Alf & Happy Days. Both shows have been edited and changed for DVD release. Don't the responsible people in USA know what a golden piece of culture they are mutilating whith these changes of favorite american shows? I would have payed anything for this DVD - if it was done right! Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

Not so bad., July 27, 2007
By Gterrier3 (Ohio) - See all my reviews

I was one of those who constantly called Paramount to get , what I believe is the best season out;two. I was about to boil when I heard about the opening music being changed, as I have been a fan of Happy Days since it began over 33 years ago. The opening has been changed to 'Happy Days', instead of Haley's 'Rock around the Clock'. This is the only real disappointment I had, but it is a pretty significant one. However, the stories themselves are intact, and the minor original music is still there (opening and closing acts). Also, the ending with the old 'Happy Days' song is still there, as well. I have to admit, I had fun watching this. It was so much easier than dealing with vhs tapes, with their commercials. Once the stories start, it's still the same old Richie and Fonz...good to see them on dvd. So, I have to give this only four stars because of the altered opening theme. Everything else looks good. These Happy Days Are Yours And Mine...., July 16, 2007
By TheRealDeal (mAssachusetts) - See all my reviews

Yea yea, i'd like it to be the original music, but, I have to say, I've watched the first two ep's already, and I don't see any difference. As for the idiot complaints about picture quality. Um, IT WAS FILMED FOR TV IN THE 70'S!!! What do you clowns think you are watching, The Matrix 3d???

As for me, GET THIS SET, I don't care, I can't TELL you how happy I get watching these shows. This was a special series and unfortunately never eclipsed, (other than maybe the Wonder Years) It speaks to a time and place, both the 50's and the 70's when people were happier, nicer, and when life was better. The only fears we had were the Russkies, and since they actually had half a brain and gave a hoot about their own lives, (unlike the religious fanatic toilet mongering terrorists we have today) it wasn't so bad. So, GET THE DARN DVD, put it on, and just be HAPPY! also, if you buy it, Paramount will be more inclined to release the rest of the seasons! Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? From a Reviewer not even Aware of the Music Problem!, July 12, 2007
By 70's Girl "Born to Talk" (Far From My Hometown) - See all my reviews

Wow, what a firestorm over the music! I watched the show religiously growing up in the 70's, but did not even notice the music was changed! My only comment would be that this show starts out slow, gains speed and dies down at the end. The second season is not one of the better ones, but things will improve. Better to rent if you are not interested in having every season for a collection.

I Don't Care About Aspect Ratios and Missing 50's Tunes - Bring Me Happy Days!!!, July 4, 2007
By Mr. Sinister (El Cajon, CA USA) - See all my reviews

Wow! People certainly have their [...]. in a bunch over the fact that some of the original music has been replaced in the DVD version of Happy Days: The Complete Second Season. People are missing the point here! I've never seen a bunch of geeks this upset since George Lucas tinkered with the original Star Wars Trilogy. Again, I say WOW! The fact that I get to watch the second season of Happy Days (with or without a Bobby Darin song or two)is enough to make me happy. Apparently I'm THAT shallow. Should I be pitching a fit? Should I demand that everyone boycott this DVD set? Apparently I should, but I'm not. Bottom line is this, Happy Days is classic tv and I wanna watch it. What am I gonna do, wait another 30 years for Paramount to release the episodes with the original music? I don't think so. I want to be able to share the show with my kids before they're 40.

Season two is just as good (even better) than the first. You can see that Fonzie is starting to take on a major role, and that's just cool. Hilarious episodes abound and some episodes that didn't get very much air-play in syndication are here as well. It's so refreshing to see them again. My kids love this show and so do I. It brings back a lot of memories. This is what Classic TV is made of. A must have, in whatever condition Paramount seems fit to release for my buying pleasure.

So....freak out all you want about "Alley Oop" or "Sh-boom" missing from the background! Dance around in your underwear singing "Splish Splash" until you're blue in the face! Call Paramount! Send nasty letters to Ron Howard! E-mail Scott Baio! All I know is that while you're doing all those foolish, temper-tantrum things, I'll be enjoying Happy Days on DVD and laughing very hard.

It's about copyrights, folks., June 29, 2007
By D. Baxter "D. Baxter" (Middletown, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews

I've read the reviews of "Happy Days -- The Complete Second Season" with interest. I own the first season of the show, and would probably be inclined to buy the second. I understand the frustration of those who are disappointed that the original tunes that made the show so authentically '50s' are not included. And, I agree that the studio is cutting corners in that regard. One of the biggest disappointments I've had in this area was with the best of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson video set. When Johnny's final show originally aired in May of '92, it featured a montage of the musical acts that had appeared on The Tonight Show over 30 years; and it was a truly nostalgic look back at the greats who had played on the show. When the videos came out(I purchased the VHS set first, then the DVDs when they became available), the final show video was missing the musical segment. I was very disappointed; but here's the facts: When a show is filmed or taped, the producers only have to pay the 'synchronization rights' -- that is, the right to use a copyrighted piece of music in conjunction with a video production. The producers don't have to pay the 'performance rights' -- those rights are paid by the TV stations around the country in yearly 'blanket license' fees. But...when the shows are put onto video, the studios would have to pay more money in copyrights for the privilege of including those same original songs in DVDs to be distributed and sold in non-broadcast forums.
That's why they don't include the original music. Are they being 'cheap'?
Perhaps. I've been frustrated by that practice, too. But that's why you're not getting the original music on many of the DVD sets of TV shows. Comments (2) | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD VIDEOTAPES!!, June 28, 2007
By David W. Witherington - See all my reviews

While the first season DVD set RULED, the second season DVD set SUCKS!! The box on the package that reads "Music has been replaced for this home entertainment version" may as well read "Don't throw away your homemade VHS tapes, as they are superior in every way to this butcher job." I mean, come on Paramount- the 50s music used in this classic series was as much a star as the actors. Please pay the music fees and straighten this mess out! Until then, I'll watch my old videotapes, thank you. Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)

As I said, none of the Amazon season-three reviews mean anything because nobody has actually seen the DVD set yet.

As Pavan has said and everyone else has predicted, there will be music replacements. tvshowsondvd.com has the rear cover art, and it features this cryptic phrase: "music has been changed for this home entertainment version."

Anglemark much as i hate too admite this you are right, but again cbs/paramount really cannot afford too screw up this season because this is what we all have been waiting along time for, again we do not have any control over what these compaines does to these dvd sets but us people buying and spending money on there product do have control over our mind and thoughts about there lack of work and what they do to the dvds and to me i thank god for the dvd reviews because they are letting us no about the product before we buy it, happy days is a classic and with a show like that i do not care who you are if you are going to put a product out, you have too make an effort by puting everything into it, and todd fuller had said something very interesting when he reviewd happy days season 2 that he would like too see the next season looking better with all of the original scenes and use as much music as possible especially the ones that the band did and special features. Again what ever happen happens but if cbs/paramount does not put in the effort in by making season 3 worth buying then it would not make any sense to continue with the rest of the series. but again complainning about is not going too do anything. i look at season 1 occassionally and at times i feel like either selling it or throwing it away the reason why i say that is because how does it look buying a first complete season of a show which had everything intact, and when you buy the second season of that same show and it does have the same quailty as the first season then it mess up the collection that is just my personal opinion, me and a friend of mine was talking the other day and he is a happy days fan and he said that hd was a popular show which was based on the life and times of the 1950's and it was the music which really kept the show intact, and he also said something powerful, if hd was just a regular show then the music would not be such a big deal, but we all have to face the fact hd was known for everything the music social issues and comedy, and too me you cannot take the flavor out of the cake and the cake out of the flavor but again lets see what happens i no that some would agree with me and some who would disagree with me which is ok because we all have our own opinion

It will be tough to replace the music that Postie, Richie & Ralph's BAND plays/"sings" at Arnold's -- it will be interesting how "They" (Paramont/CBS) get around that. (See the episode where Laverne & Shirley first appear - in the opening scene the "Band" sings "Great Balls of Fire")

And who can't forget the "Band" singing "Honey Comb" at Richie's house during the episode where Sticks Downing joins the band (Fonzie's friend who is black).

Also remember when Fonzie sings "Heartbreak Hotel" with Laverne & Shirley doo wopping? -- will they include that pertinent scene?

There are other examples....

My hope is that at least the picture is a little better on this one than Season 2.
