Will Smith is developing a sitcom based on his hit 2005 movie Hitch.

The actor will be executive producer of the TV version of the comedy, in which he played a "professional" date doctor. However, he will not star in the programme himself.

The project is backed by Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment and is expected to be pitched to US TV networks in the near future.

Great! Another show I probably won't watch!

i have my doubts about this. i think this might flop but it all depends on how well the pilot does. and anyway, sitcom versions of big screen films have never translated well on the small screen. remember the awful 'my big fat greek life'? based on the hit film 'my big fat greek wedding?' that was a huge flop

i'd be very surprised if he decides to star in the role, because he's already big in the movie world anyway. it will be interesting to see who the producers and makers cast as Hitch. i doubt very much though that will would go back to starring in a sitcom. besides, his other show all of us, is based on the real life antics of himself, jada and his kid- and yet he doesn't star in that show, one bit on the small screen

oh of course! thanks for pointing that out! but if this show is as good as it sounds, then we might be in for a treat. i also doubt that kevin james would reprise his role, considering the success he has had with the film itself and the comedy flick 'i now pronounce you chuck and larry'

Will is talented I'll be sure to check it out when it comes out. Maybe as sucessful as Fresh Prince

Why shouldn't it? Instead of being all Fresh Prince, all the time, it would be all Fresh Prince and that other Will Smith show, all the time.

if, as i mentioned before, this turns out to be good, then i'd rather watch that than some drama or reality tv show. of course nowadays will rarely needs the money- he is a rich filmstar now. if however this bombs and fails to cut the mustard, then so be it. currently, we have back to you and perhaps hitch will follow its lead. but i hope it is a hundred times better than 'my fat greek life', which sank without a trace

i hated that record btw, it got on my nerves when it was played on the radio endlessly a couple of years ago when it was a massive hit
