Hi all,
I write a blog about classic TV and I am running a poll about 70's sitcoms. Please stop by and vote for your favorite! Later this week I'll be posting my "Classic TV Spotlight" feature and this week the show I'm spotlighting is, you guessed it-Barney Miller! :D

I voted on your poll ( M*A*S*H ) but, you should have put the link on a general sitcoms thread, cause by putting it here, youre squewing the results toward Barney Miller and are less likely to get a true result ( Just a thought )

Barney Miller is definitely my fave show of the 1970s, followed closely by The Bob Newhart Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, WKRP, Good Times and Sanford & Son.

OH Nuts!

I love Barney Miller but the problem is there were other great 70s shows. Sorry, but I have to go with All In the Family as my personal favorite - to me it was historical and broke so much ground. However, if we get to pick our top 3 - Barney Miller is definitely included! (I really really loved Mary Tyler Moore too - also groundbreaking so its my #2 but only a tiny bit ahead of Barney)

The 1970s is hands down the best decade of TV, imo. So many of those shows are still fresh and FUNNY today. :D

I voted for Sanford And Son
Don't forget that Sanford & Son also featured Gregory Sierra as Julio before he moved to Barney Miller. Ron Glass also guested on S&S.

OH Nuts!

I voted for Sanford And Son

Another fun show and LaWanda Page was to die for as Ester. She was hilarious!!! "Watch it sucka!!"

OH Nuts!

And another thought on LaWanda's Ester, I soooo loved how Ester went at it toe to toe with Fred - one good rank out after another - at least to me, I thought she won practically all of them - guess that "Watch It Sucka" was just her way of warning that you mess with me you gonna get a good verbal whuppin' and maybe a swat too if you REALLY mess with me. She was such a great character! My absolute fav on the show!!!

Very well said. The shows from the 1970s actually seem fresher to me than alot of today's comedies. They were grittier, realistic, less PC and just alot funnier. Barney Miller is probably in my top 5 of 70s shows: Sanford and Son, Good Times, Bob Newhart, Barney Miller, AITF- too many to mention!;)
