View Full Version : what got you to start watching Frasier ?

It all started when I was 11 years old. I had just returned home from a vacation to Seattle. That vacation left me fascinated with the city. My Uncle told me that if I was so interested in Seattle I should watch a show called Frasier which was set in Seattle. This was at a time in my life when my sense of humor was growing along with me. I had matured past Nickelodeon and I was getting into three other sit-coms; The Simpsons ( which I had actually been watching since my town first got FOX in 1990) Seinfeld, and Drew Carey. The first episode of Frasier that I watched was the one where Maris leaves Niles and Frasier and Marty tell him to take it like a man. I was H-O-O-K-E-D hooked from then on! Especially to Daphne :) ( Rule Britannia!) For the next couple of years I made sure that I had time to watch Frasier each week during the "TV season". I'm not going to lie; when Daphne and Niles finally hooked up the show lost a little bit of it's edge for me. In fact, I haven't even seen the final episode. Nevertheless I am planing to buy two ( and only two) seasons on DVD; the 96-97 season because it was the first one I ever saw, and the first season because I've heard that the 96-97 season has no special features.

I was a Cheers nut and I really liked the Frasier Crane character from that show, so I just naturally followed the character to this show. :)

My father used to watch the show a lot. I didn't get a lot of the humor, but I still laughed at some stuff. I started watching it more and more (when it came to local syndication), but after a while, I lost interest. A few years later, I saw that it was ending, so I tuned in to the final few episodes on NBC. Then I didn't watch for a few years again. This past summer I found myself Tivoing it every night, and watching it on my own time. I'm loving it more than ever.

I started watching it in the spring of 2003. I had a seen a few episodes before that, but I wasn't a fan. I was a big fan of Cheers in 2003 and figured I'd give Frasier another chance since it was a spinoff of Cheers, so I watched it in syndication for about a week and thought it was a great show and I've been a fan ever since. :)

I watched it cause it was a spinoff of Cheers which i had watched from day one....as it turned out, I found Frasier to be a bit of a dissapointment, compared to its parent show, but, i kept watching until the year of the
"Frasier is fired" storyline, the show really seemed to jump the shark then, so, im still seeing eps ive never seen before, in Syndication.

I was a huge Cheers fan, i didn't really like the Frasie character that much, but after seeing the Cheers Finale, it made me want to see the show.

I seen a handful of episodes in syndication, and when they announced DVD's were coming out I jumped on them. I've bought all the DVD's so far, I just love this show to death now.

I have seasons 8 and 9 on DVD, but I've kept them sealed. I'm waiting for season 10, so I can watch them all in a row. I still haven't watched Disc 4 of Season 7, I want to save the Daphne/Niles cliff hanger for later.

I liked him on Cheers so I figured I'd like his Frasier show too. And I did.

I watched Cheers when I was like 10 and 11, then started watching Frasier in the fall of 1993 when I was 12. After Seinfeld, it pretty much became the only show on NBC that I enjoyed.

I was a big "Cheers" fan and I loved the character of Frasier Crane, but it still took my sister and her husband to get me into "Frasier." It takes a lot for me to sit down and watch a show I'm not familiar with, but after watching about 3 or 4 episodes at their house I was really starting to get into it. Amazing to me that it turned out to be just as good (in my opinion), if not better, than "Cheers." :)

My parents. We all watched Seinfeld, and Frasier came on after. Even though Frasier changed timeslots and nights often, we still watched. I do have to admit I lost interest after the first few seasons, once Daphne and Niles hooked up. I think they should've gotten married in the series finale, but I digress. It was indeed a quality show.

The seasons which followed the N & D hookup were still pretty good, I have to say, but definitely the show did lose something. There was always that interesting angle of what was going on in Niles' love life and seeing where Daphne's life was starting to go. But then when they hooked up that was gone, obviously.

(Personally, I think Donnie and Mel should have hooked up but that's just me. )

I LOVED the episode where they all went up to the cabin and Niles and Roz pretended to be in love to make Daphne and Donny jealous. It was just like a play, where everyone was going in and out, overhearing and misunderstanding everything. The only episode that made me laugh and howl this much was the radio play. Those are my two all-time favorite episodes!! :brent

 Oh yeah! That episode w/Niles & Roz was called "Decoys". That's a great one...:D

Did you see the episode called "Ski Lodge" when everyone is chasing after everyone else? (Frasier wants Daphne's friend Annie, who wants Niles, who wants Daphne, who wants the French ski instructor, who wants Niles. )

It is hilarious. That one will have you cracking up big time. It's from Season 5.

Niles: "Would you please get out of my bed? I am not gay, Guy!"

Frasier had its moments, but, went at least 3 years too long, and the ending was a letdown (Frasier spent all those years looking for a perfect woman, and he had one on the other side of the glass, yet barely seemed to notice!).
Theres no WAY this show was as good as Cheers, but, it was much better than anything else that was on, at the time.

I was one of the people that wanted to see Frasier and Roz hook up, but some people seemed to think it was just too cliche. They might have even made a better couple than Niles & Daphne. ;)

Deffinately! Roz was just what Frasier NEEDED: a free spirit with a bit of sass & vinegar, that would have unclenched that butt of his! (Actually, Niles & Daphne were terrible together, as an actual couple!)

Believe it or not, it was the Jack Russell terrier Eddie (Moose). He was such a
little scene stealer (esp. when he glared at Frasier)!

Frasier and Roz would've been terrific together!! My beef about Daphne and Niles was that she was supposed to be the girl he could never have (at least until the series finale). Much of the humor came from his chasing her and her never figuring it out.

Now I realize it's just a TV show, but if this was a real life situation she would have been the dumbest person on the planet. Some of the things he did and said were so obvious, yet she remained oblivious. I really think a house had to fall on her.

So much for her being "a little bit psychic", huh?

I was never a fan of Cheers so I didn't watch Frasier from the beginning. But I do watch the Emmys and after the show won a few Emmys I thought that maybe it might be worth looking into. That did it!

One of the 1st episodes I saw was the one where Frasier tries to hook Daphne up with Tom(Eric Lutes).

I watched Cheers a lot on Nick @ Nite, but I think the thing that drew me to Frasier was the Niles/Daphne attraction. His reactions whenever he interacted with her with hilarious!

I am not a Cheers fan per se, though I did like Frasier in the show. I was hesitant to watch Frasier because I thought it would be similar to Cheers somehow. However, two of my friends said how funny it was, and occasionally I would catch the end credits with "Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs" and the funny scenes related to something earlier in the episode. It caught my interest and I started watching in syndication a few months ago. Now I'm working my way thru season one on Netflix. Really sharp humor, and I love Eddiie.:D Just great stuff, better than Cheers, IMHO, but that's just me.

Well, I never really liked Cheers and I never even watched 1 episode of Frasier until I started to watch Kelsey in "Back To You". Kelsey Grammer is a fantastic and talented actor. The only show[movie] I saw him in was Down Periscope. I thought he was very funny in it. So the last few months now, I've been watching syndicated shows of Frasier. I didn't really like Cheers because of Shelly Long. Frasier is much better than Cheers hands down. Watching a bunch of people setting around drinking doesn't interest me. I can watch that anywhere. Frasier had such a great cast. I haven't seen such a great cast since MASH. The very first episode I saw was with Laurie Metcalf in "Caught in the Act", I almost wet myself. Peek-a-boo!!!

I always loved Cheers for as long as I can remember, but I never really cared for FRASIER until a couple of years ago. I bought season one 2 years ago at around this time. I started to realize the show's excellence gradually as the episodes progressed on the set. Now I love it.

I liked the Frasier and Lilith characters on Cheers but I I never watched this show when it was on.

My condo complex has a movie library. I was looking for something to watch one weekend, but couldn't find anything that interested me. They had 'Frasier: Season Three' which for some unknown reason, I decided to borrow.

I fell totally in love with the show! I watched the season three episodes over and over, and then went out and bought all the available seasons on DVD. I bought the remaining seasons as they were released.

I must have watched each episode a dozen times by now. Season 3 and 11 are my favorites, I think seasons 8-10 had a few (too many) lukewarm episodes, but a few great ones, too.

Because I had nothing to say until now.

I chose to respond to this thread because there is in fact a story behind "what got me to start watching Frasier." My borrowing the season 3 DVD set was a completely unplanned, random event that probably would have never happened if something else (anything else) at the video library had caught my attention.

And I would have missed out on what I think is one of the best, most enjoyable TV shows ever created!

Yeah, my story is pretty similiar. Except I already knew Frasier (the character) from the crossover episode of Wings. I'm a big fan of that show, and since that was one of my favorite episodes, I always sort of had the idea I might get into Frasier if given the chance. I stumbled on to reruns, and was instantly hooked.

I do agree with those who say the show lost something after Niles and Daphne got together, but there were still good eps. after that. I loved the storyline of Martin marrying the boys' former babysitter. I think Ronee is really good for him. But of course, that's prob. a topic for another thread. :)

I liked all the seasons of Frasier.. It was such a great show. :) I liked that Niles and Daphne got together. :) I think it would have been a shame if they had kept the two apart. IMO, it didn't take anything away from the show when they got together. It's a shame that the show ended when it did after 11 seasons. It would have been funny to see Niles as a parent. We only got a small glipse of that in the series finale.

I agree with the posters who mentioned that Frasier and Roz should have gotten together. :)

I agree about enjoying all the seasons. The closest Frasier came to having a 'bad' year was Season 8, losing Daph for a few episodes and a few lackluster episodes being the reasons. Having Niles and Daphne get together was pretty much required. It would have been weird to see his infatuation for her go on any longer. When they finally did get together at the end of Season 7...wow. My favorite moment of any television show ever.

I do wonder what would've happened had there been a 12th season...

I have to agree about Niles and Daphne finally getting together. "Something Borrowed, Somone Blue" is one of my favorites. The scene on the balcony, then later, when she finds him in the Winnebago is just classic. :) I think, even if you weren't a die-hard Niles/Daphne fan, you kind of HAD to root for Niles. After Maris, and then Mel, the poor guy deserved a break! LOL!

Well, I didn't really care for Frasier at all. My mom watched it when I lived with her and I would watch it with her but I never really got into it. I didn't really pay a lot of attention to it.
But one evening a few months ago, there was nothing on TV I cared for but Frasier was on so I decided to watch. I didn't think anything of it, I was bored and figured why not?
I was only half paying attention to the show but when I focused on the show something caught my attention in the episode and from then on I was hooked.
Before long I became a huge fan of Niles and Daphne. I had no idea before how funny the show was until I really paid attention. The pairing of Niles and Daphne was pure genius and was beautifully portrayed by DHP and Jane Leeves. I became a huge fan of both of them as well. The show was pure genius and I regret that it took so long to become a fan.

Great thread topic. My story:

When Cheers & Frasier originally came out in the '80's & '90's (respectively), I was a kid/young adult who wasn't really a sitcom fan. I do remember Frasier premiering in Fall '93 when I was college, and having 0 interest in watching the show. In fact, I didn't even know the character/series was a spin-off from Cheers at that time.

However, in the past couple of years I've had an interest in watching Cheers, and wanted to dedicate some time in watching the entire series. So, in Summer 2018 I started watching the show, and finished in May 2019. And, I felt that Frasier & Lilith were some of the funniest characters on the series. This led me to wanting to see Frasier, which I started watching in Summer 2019 - and I've been hooked ever since. Excellent series, and possibly my all-time favorite sitcom!

My mom used to like Frasier because it was simply a wonderful show and very funny but my obsession with Frasier began when I had "and still have" the biggest crush on Kelsey Grammer and I thought Kelsey was such a gentleman and included that into Frasier himself and I would watch Frasier every night on Hallmark Channel just to see Kelsey Grammer. I also had a crush on Niles too and thought he was cute. When i see actor Paul Bettany Paul reminds me a lot of David Hyde Pierce and Niles and even looks like Niles too
