I can't for the life of me describe for the title what I will say here. Stacy, Rick and I shared a great laugh last week regarding the music that played while the subway was speeding along in the episode LUCY AND THE LOVING CUP. We roared abt how that music went so well while the subway sped along. :rofl:

Anyhoo, I noticed in the scene in Lucy in the Italian Movie, while they show the train speeding along, again, we hear a snippet of that famous music we heard in the loving cup scene. :rofl: I recognized it instantly. Was there music played when the Ricardos left Hollywood on that train bound for New York? Hmmmmmm.....

Also, in the Carlota Romero episode where Lucy dreams abt Ricky leaving her for that Carlota woman, we hear this sad, sad music being played as we see Ricky bidding farwell to Lucy and Little Ricky. It is almost too much to bear, the music makes for such a sad scene. :lol: It continues to play throughout Lucy's dream.

Then, in the episode where Ricky and Lucy appear on the radio game show because Lucy thinks Ricky is a genius, we see the fab four watching tv and they decide to watch an old movie. We don't see the tv screen but we hear the supposed music of the movie they are watching and it is the same old corny music we hear throught out many episodes of Lucy. :lol:

Great post, Irene! Being a musician, I have always been a fan of the music on ILL. Of course, there are the many wonderful songs played by Ricky's orchestra and the ones in the skits, plays and shows. Usually no mention is made of the incidental music, which is amusing, corny, catchy and hilarious! Reocurring themes pop up here and there that add to the charm of the show and help give it its identity.

I think the train snipets in Italy and across country are similar and also a variation of the ILL theme song was used. The subway had that memorable duh do duh-duh, do duh do duh that I find so hilarious. I wish someone could post a link to that song so we could all share it!

That Carlota Romero dream music is dramatic and schmaltzy. The castenets really add to the scenario! :lol:

I want to find out more about who wrote the incidental music. I know the writers wrote many of the songs in the plays and shows, but I am not sure if anyone has ever been credited for the "other" music.

Yes, I know the music you're talking about there! That reminds me of Here's Lucy. During the first couple seasons, every time someone was listening to the radio or dancing, they played the same instrumental version of Petula Clark's "I Know a Place" (at least I think that's the title). Now what about that Fred Mertz music they started playing whenever Fred was alone in a scene, or entering into a scene? The "Harpo Marx" episode is one instance that comes to mind, in the scene by the pool. But they actually used this music quite a lot. Do you know what I'm referring to?

I would do it, but I've found there is a block on the "I Love Lucy" DVDs that prevents copying anything off of them, which makes me wonder how you have managed to do those screen shots. I can't even play my ILL DVDs on my computer.

That is a shame because the picture quality on a computer is excellent compared to a TV. Did you purchase your seasons seperately? I bought the boxed set as soon as it came out a couple of years ago. I have no trouble playing the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour DVDs either.

Yes, I do know what you mean! I guess a true Lucy fanatic would know. As a matter of fact, it reminds me of my fave nighttime soap DALLAS. Whenever some particular character was shown, they played a certain song or instrumental music JUST FOR THAT CHARACTER. I think they did it on Little House on the Praire too. For the blind daughter Mary, there always seemed to be the same soft-style music whenever the scene was focused on her. I know there are other shows that do that as well.
