View Full Version : I Love Lucy TV Sets
Madame X 10-02-2007, 04:56 PM "Lucy Does a TV Commercial" set. Totally phony with a test pattern on the screen and it's not plugged in. Fred says he came up to watch because his set is on the blink. We never see or hear of a Mertz TV set again until "The Courtroom."

Ricardo's set in "The Courtroom."
130367
Ricardos' gift to the Mertzes.
130368
Apparently the judge has a set just like the Ricardos!

I guess the Ricardos got their set fixed after Fred put his foot through it, but now it's on wheels.

New house, new "modern" set.

comedyfreak 10-03-2007, 04:46 AM talk about keeping the budget down, LOL.
Ireneparalegal 10-05-2007, 07:23 PM Great pics!
 comedyfreak's comment above.
Ok, notice in the first pic above, (I noticed this last night) the television was situated in that corner of the living room (right near the hallway). In the opening scene you will see it in that corner, we never see it there again.
Also, the famous Lucy wall clock is hung on that wall. That is the only time we see it there other than where we normally see it...on the wall right next to the kitchen door.

I didn't notice that before! The clocks in ILL have always bothered me. They usually are set to the wrong time according to the story that's going on. I have halfway determined that the ILL clock you refer to that hangs by the kitchen is a barometer, although I'm not quite sure yet. The hands constantly point in some other direction than the time and it looks like it says "fair," "rain," "change," etc. What do you think?

Ireneparalegal 10-05-2007, 09:35 PM Yes, you are right, it is a barometer. It is definitely not a clock, that's for sure. And it has always been right there in that last pic above. I just remembered, their clock was above the fireplace. That one didn't seem to be correct, as you stated, to what was going on. I think the only time it was set accordingly was in THE SCHEDULE episode.

I have a friend up in Burbank who has been busy for years tracking down exact copies of the items in the Ricardos apartment (much of it bought through Ebay and at flea markets), including that clock and those Chinese figurines on the mantel, their china, and many other items. He has his own living decorated with this stuff. It's pretty amazing to see, and to be able to see those items up close.

When I visited the I Love Lucy museum at Universal Studios in Hollywood, they had the exact replica of many of the ILL items. Thinking back, they also had that barometer. Why I continue to think of it as a clock is weird.  I guess because for sooooo many years, watching ILL, I would see it and think it was a clock. Once something gets embedded in your brain like that, it is hard to just shrug it off.
Ireneparalegal 10-13-2007, 11:16 PM In the Country Club episode, where the boys are in the Mertzes' house talking abt how they are in the dog house with the women, we see a tv set in the Mertzes' living room as well.

Good catch, Irene! I guess Ricky got a two-for-one special!

Ireneparalegal 10-14-2007, 02:50 PM OMG, it is the same darn television. I was wondering, if the Mertzes' just brought their own television. If so, looks like the tv manufacturers at that time (in their area) only had a few select choices, seeing as they are identical.
