View Full Version : Ok ready for these observations made in two different episodes...
Ireneparalegal 10-02-2007, 02:01 PM Remember that table we seen in the hallway for the episodes we see right outside the Ricardos' apt. while their door was open for unknown reasons?
Ok, could the table we see in the Mertzes' apt. be the same one? In the episode LUCY AND ETHEL WEAR THE SAME DRESS, we see Ethel emerge from her hallway/kitchen door in that formal dress and if you look to the immediate right, you can see a table that looks similar to what we see outside the hallway in the later season. I am not sure if it is the same table, maybe our resident screen cap professional Madame X can check for us and post that here.
Also, in the episode NO CHILDREN ALLOWED, we see Ethel in her apt. fuming after that fiasco that took place with Lucy mocking her. Ethel is sitting in a chair that I don't think we see more than two times. Where did that red chair come from all of a sudden? We usually see Fred in that dark, lowback, filthy-looking old chair that sits against that wall next to that lamp that has that shade that shimmies down the pole. You will see that red chair again at the end of the episode when the fab four are in the Mertzes apt. and Lucy discovers they left Little Ricky alone.
Also, is the Mertzes' apt. a bit smaller than we see later on? I mean, it seems that red chair was not against the wall because there would be no room for the front door to open without hitting anything that would be situated right there. If you compare that scene with the one where Ethel is wearing the formal dress, you will see it is pretty different. Also, the wallpaper is different. In the NO CHILDREN ALLOWED, the Mertzes' apt. has what looks like bird wallpaper, it is dark and drab. Then in the FORMAL DRESS episode you will see it is lighter and a total different style.
Madame X 10-02-2007, 02:09 PM Yes, I have noticed that the Mertz' apartment seemed to change. I know the wallpaper changed before the "redecoration," and the room does get bigger. It always bugged me how Fred's chair was right in front of the door!
And of course there is the issue of the door on the left wall that Lucy runs through.
I will dig up pictures of that table!
NOVARick 10-02-2007, 02:50 PM I'm just curious, how can you tell the chair is red?

Madame X 10-02-2007, 02:59 PM The tables were different!

Musical chairs! Maybe they needed to keep getting new stains! How many chairs do two people need?
What a picture! Two different flowered patterns, two different polka-dot patterns, a checkered tie and tacky pictures. The magazine on the table was probably "House Beautiful!" Check out the stain on the chair against the wall! puke:

More chairs and more stains! Look at Fred's grease spot on this stunning example of upscale decor. puke: puke: puke:

I was wondering that too! ;)
NOVARick 10-02-2007, 03:09 PM Man, how horrible! Everything clashes. Their living room makes Archie and Edith Bunker's living room look glamorous. For the record, Fred buys all his furniture, including the table in the hallway, from the local Goodwill store.

Madame X 10-02-2007, 03:46 PM Hey, is this the same table that was in the upstairs hallway?

NOVARick 10-02-2007, 04:04 PM Hey, is this the same table that was in the upstairs hallway?
In reality, I would say yes, the set decorators used the same table for both of these shots. Good catch! But in the fictional world of the Ricardos and Mertzes, I guess we can assume that Fred, for the sake of consistency (and probably because he got a deep discount) bought identical pieces of the same table to put on each floor. But one thing that strikes me as curious, it seems there is a table in the hallway across from every door. How many doors are in that building? Those hallways must be awfully crowded with tables!

I know! There are tables and chairs everywhere that no one uses!
PolarCub75@aol.com 10-02-2007, 05:56 PM I donn't think it's the same table. The one in the Mertz's apartment has a design in the center of it. The one outside the Ricardo apratment, as well as the main entrance to the building doesn't have the design in the middle of it, yet it has a piece of wood going across the legs, under the table. LOL :) ;)

Yes, the one in the Mertz' apartment is different. After we determined that, I posted another picture asking if the one seen through the Ricardo's front door is the same one seen through the front door of the apartment building main entrance.
Ireneparalegal 10-02-2007, 06:14 PM Great pics. Thanx for that. Well, I seen the episode on TVLand and I did mention before that the episodes show up having some sort of red tinge rather than the black and white as I see on other channels. So, the chair appears somewhat red to me. Sorry abt that goof.
Ireneparalegal 10-02-2007, 07:35 PM I forgot to mention I think you did find the table my dear. In that shot with Fred and Ricky packing the car with luggage, that table in the backdrop there in that hallway sure looks the same to me. Excellent job Stacy! You really must have remembered abt that table in the background, I would never have remembered that at all. The only way I would have been aware of that table would have been when I seen the episode.
Also note, in the pics you posted as #4 post, the first pic and the third pic show us a different picture hanging on the wall where we will later see Fred's chair situated. And what is that little table? Weird.
Great pics.

Everything does clash. BADLY! :puke: God, imagine how it would have looked like IN COLOR? :faint:
Bill S. 10-03-2007, 12:59 AM That table in front of the the building looks just like the one outside the Ricardo's apartment.

I see we agree. ;)
I am so grossed out by that greasy stain on that chair in the Mertzes' apt. :puke:
I couldn't help but notice it when that episode aired recently.

"Now you're not going to touch that chair," growls Fred. :nonono: :cuss: The nice thing about a chair like that is you can feel very comfortable having dinner in it, without having to worry about whether you spill food in it. :happyface

Well, if I spilled my food on a dirty, greasy chair like that, I sure as hell wouldn't want to pick it off that chair and eat it. :puke: :eek2: I guess Fred's head was real greasy. Considering he didn't have much hair, he must have had an oily head.

That chair and the Mertzes' apt. doesn't fit in the "five second rule" when it comes to food falling off the plate.
