Well, there was that time he actually told her! :lol:

First of all, Erin, glad to see a new thread here! LOL

Anyway, I've always thought one of the cutest ones was in "Best of Enemies" (one of my fave eps, BTW!), when Mary asked Murray if he thought she was right to be angry with Rhoda for revealing that Mary didn't graduate college. Murray's response was, "You know how I feel about you. I still think you graduated college." (Insert "Awww!" here, hehe!)

I also seem to remember in "Mary Moves Out" when Mary was showing the others her new apartment, she showed them her garbage can, and Murray said something to the effect of, "Gee, I never thought of you as having garbage." hehe.

I know in The Slaughter Affair when Mary agrees that they are just friends he says, "I know." With a look and with what sounds like disappointment. In the same episode he also mentions how Marie says that he talks about Mary all the time.

In the episode where Mary and Rhoda aren't speaking (S4: The Best Of Enemies), he staes, "You know how I feel about you." (and then states even after the whole ordeal with her not graduating from college, he still believes she has)

In the show where Mary takes the writing class she says she doesn't want him to read her paper because he thinks everything she does is terrific. He promises to be very fair, but then starts smiling broadly and even stomping his foot as he reads her report until he finally announces "it's terrific!". It's also a very funny and well done scene. I think they wanted to show Murray having a crush on her pretty early. Who can blame him? And I think it's very common for guys to have crushes on the pretty girl at work who is nice to everyone. Underneath, it seems all the guys had crushes on Mary. Real life is like that too.

He just better remember that he has got a wife and kids at home.

Very well said! :D I totally agree. She was the only woman in the office, was sweet and pretty, and she sat right next to him!! It makes complete sense that he'd have a big crush on her.

As the series progressed you saw a brother/sister relationship that Mary and Murray had.

Mary seemed to really enjoy Murray's adoration as long as he didn't take it too far. I think she probably would've gone for him if he wasn't married.

I've been watching it over and over for the past several minutes. And the ending to the ep is cute too! :) He tells her that her C+ is 'Terrifc!'.

I agree with the whole "crush" thing.
Heck, I still have a crush on Mary Tyler Moore, mostly from her portrayal of Mary Richards on TMTMS, so why wouldn't Murray, Lou, and even Ted?
Work relationships can always be interesting, but there are certain realities that 98 times out of 100 preclude anything from happening. Murray was married and lacked hair...Lou was married for most of the show and a bit older and the boss...and Ted was, well, Ted. Plus, she really was stunning looking.
Could it have happened? Yes. Was it likely to happen? No.
That's why for the sake of reality I was happy it never did, but of course the guys are going to think about Mary, so we still got some great episodes out of it, plus the one Kristen recently recapped with the fantasy sequences where they had a lot of clever fun with it.
All in all I think it worked out just right.

That never would've happened. The network wouldn't even let Mary be divorced (which she was supposed to be originally) - they never would've gone for an interracial romance!!

Here's some "moments" to remember:

Party Is Such Sweet Sorrow

- Wanting everything perfect for Mary at her going away party.

- Getting angry at Ted for not saying Mary's last name correctly on air.

Christmas And The Hard-Luck Kid II

- Giving Mary a Christmas present even though they had said they wouldn't.
(but she did it too :D)

- Angry that she had let Fred talk her into working for him on Christmas Eve.

I remember in the very first episode, when Mary first enters the newsroom, Murray is too busy to look up when he says "Hello." But when he does look up and sees he's talking to a pretty woman, he says "HELLO!" So you could say he liked her the first time he saw her :)

I really like the way the writers dealt with Murray's crush. They could have ended the episode right after Murray tells Mary he loves her, and she responds like a friend, "I love you too!" It was really cute, but that would have been a cop-out. Luckily, the writers had Mary come back in and acknowledge that she knows what Murray really meant. This show was always emotionally honest, rare for sitcoms.

And even later, Murray still has that crush! When Mary expresses interest in dating Lou, he asks Murray what he would do if Mary asked Murray out. His one word reply: "Salivate." :crazy: Nowadays, a sitcom would probably go for some sleazy line. Not the talented MTM folks!

I think Gordy mentioned being married with kids once or twice, if I'm not mistaken. Plus, as I mentioned before, CBS never would've gone for an interracial relationship. Maybe if TMTMS had been a Norman Lear program, though...
