Hi everyone..in this post I don't mean to be rude or mean at all to anyone, so don't take it that way. But I am not mentioning names or anything just to hold peace. But I am surprised at how many people are showing critisism to people's fan fictions..even when they are not finished! And I am not just speaking for my fan fictions -- there are other fan fictions I see too. But even though people put somehting like 'i don't wanna be rude', and I respect you for saying that, it still gets me a little upset. Because that leaves me in the position when I don't know to continue the fan fiction or abandon it or change the entire plot or anything. I respect EVERYONE's opinion of everything because we do have a free to belive what we do, but sometimes it gets me..and I'm not sure I am the only one, but a little upset. Thanks! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I agree. even though i don't write fan fic iwouldn't because of all the unnecessisary(sp) comments. I also think that that is y a lot of people abandon their stories. it's a shame because they all have real talent., and some of them could really make it to be writters etc.

You should'nt change the story or dialogue or abandon a fanfic just because of critism. I mean, 'not to be rude or anything', but if you are afraid of critism, then don't post. Just look at it this way, if every great author did'nt take any critism, they would'nt be writing great works as they would have. That's what your Lit teacher is there for...

I think you've touched on a subject that is really tough for people to be objective about -- their ideas and their creative talents.

I truly believe that most everyone who comments on a piece of fiction does so with the very best of intentions. Maybe they loved the story and hope to see more of them. Could be they disagreed with some plot point or something a character did. Might be that they want point out a spelling error -- lots of stuff!

The cool thing is that somebody's creativity caused somebody else to think and act and respond in some way. And since we're talking about characters we feel like we know by heart -- there will *always* be an opinion on what you wrote!

That response, this feedback, is the only reward that the writers will receive for their efforts. In that, writers hope for people to respond. The trouble is, not everyone is going to like what we wrote or how we wrote it. That's fair. That's part of taking a creative risk.

As a writer, I appreciate it when people give of their time to let me know what they thought of a story.

As a reader, I hope that writers won't abandon a story or hold one hostage until they get enough positive comments to justify finishing it.

We're all in this for the fun of it. If we remember that -- and play nice and play fair -- we should be okay.

people give you some bad critism so you can help them to write an even better one next time dont take it so personally if someone said that they didnt like and don't give a reason why then they really dont know what they are talking about but you need bad critism to go along with the good critism

I totally agree with you that it is upsetting when people criticise fics. The bottom line is criticism is criticism and despite the fact that people try to disguise it with kind words, it still angers the author and all of the people who enjoy the story. I believe that you should stand strong and continue writing your fic even if you get some negative comments about it. Don't let people's criticism hold you back from writing a fanfic - if you enjoy writing it, nothing else matters.

Oh my gawsh, I sound like such a psychiatrist. LOL!!!!!

I think as long as it's "creative" critisim, helping them write better, it's okay!

I agree 100% on what you said, Jinnyis#1, even about your English teachers! Of course, english is my fav class besides athletics, so that might have something to do with it. But tell me something, did your english teacher ever try to set you up with a really cute boy? And did she talk to you about off-the-topic things until she totally takes up the entire class, just because she knows the class already knows it? (It wasn't an honors class, but it was the best class average wise.) You guys have got to hear the Easter Egg and the Snake story! She HATES snakes! Okay, I'm way off topic, but if any of y'all wanna hear the story, email me, or something, it's hilarious! Oh, I think creative is good, negative is bad. There, am I back on topic now? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
