I remember our beloved show ALICE was yanked after a couple of months. We ranted abt how that was unfair and so forth. So, we basically warned those whose shows were coming on ION to be prepared to have those shows yanked at any moment. And it happened. Stupid ION. Here is the new show coming to ION, I hope those fans don't get tooooo excited, because it too will be yanked after a while: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=176213 towhead_72 09-28-2007, 05:22 PM  I wonder what crappy show is going to replace it? Very luckily, I have all the episodes recorded, too, on DVD-RAM discs, which allowed me to edit out the commercials. Needless to say, I'm breathing a big sigh of relief and very grateful that I completed my collection in time. JulieSomoski 09-28-2007, 06:27 PM I'm just glad I was able to record all the episodes... I missed a few during the first rotation, and caught them all this round. Yeah, it sucks... but I think ratings are becoming harder to determine as people use Tivo and DVRs to record shows. IMO, a reason for this show not getting the best ratings on ION may be time. I mean, this show is basically aimed towards younger kids, at 19pm is a bit late to be watching it. I'm not a kid, and I could care less what time it's on, but if it was on at 7pm, I'm sure more people would watch. I can't believe they're getting 3, equally-boring shows to replace it. How would anyone rather watch Sue Thomas, Doc, and 48 Hours (which in my opinion don't belong on the network) instead of TWY? Now I just might have to sit through 2 episodes of George Lopez at 10pm  FactoryGirl 09-29-2007, 02:13 AM They're bringing back "Doc" and "Sue Thomas F.B.Eye," as well as airing some show called "48 Hours." Doc had Billy Ray Cyrus in the lead role. Sounds like they are attempting to capitalize a bit on Hannah Montana's popularity, if you ask me. Both Doc and Sue Thomas were on the network when it was PAX. What can I say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.:wallbang BTW, I sent ION a message about TWY getting the axe and this is was their response (probably generic): ----------------------------------------------------------- “The Wonder Years” will be taking a break from the schedule. However, we will continue to feature special “Wonder Years” marathons and programming events, allowing “The Wonder Years” fans to catch their favorite episodes throughout the year. Thank you for the feedback. Your comments will be forwarded to our programming department. ----------------------------------------------------------- Of course, they may say it's "taking a break," but I'll believe that only when I see it return to their schedule since almost all of the syndicated reruns that they have added then subsequently removed in the last year or so have yet to come back. It does not make much sense to me that ION doesn't find it more appropriate to have "Mama's Family" take a "break" for once. Hasn't that show been on the network at least since it was known as i? Also, if I'm not mistaken, it was shown for several years on end on TBS, so it is not as if fans of that show haven't had plenty of opportunity to get their fill up to this point. Don't take that message seriously at all. I emailed them asking what Growing Pains was taken off the lineup, in around last February. They sent me the exact same message, just with Growing Pains in place of The Wonder Years. And, to everyone's amazement, Growing Pains is nowhere to be seen on the upcoming schedules. The next time we'll probably get to see TWY is during their little Christmas week marathons. I can't wait for it to start! Back to the original subject, it was nice for ION to run TWY while it did! Regarding the Hannah Montana connection, they could bring it back since Fred Savage works on that show. PrettyinPink55 09-30-2007, 02:42 AM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!     I thought The Wonder Years was doing very well on Ion!!!!!?????? :( :( towhead_72 09-30-2007, 07:58 AM Don't take that message seriously at all. I knew the message was more than likely generic, so I'm not going to be at all surprised if the "break from the schedule" winds up having permanent characteristics, like that of "Growing Pains". If there's one thing I've learned over time when it comes to these networks airing reruns of shows, it would be not to get too comfortable with any particular show being in the schedule. Yeah, the message is definitley generic. The only exception to this was with Alice. The first time they yanked it off the schedule, I emailed them asking why and when it will return, and they wrote me telling me they removed it due to contract issues, and it should return shortly, which it did. I don't know what exactly the contract issues were, but that was surprisingly the only show on ION that did return once being taken off. I hope the same happens with TWY. ArthurVandelay 10-02-2007, 10:53 PM It kills me that they're yanking this show off the air already. I enjoy it more as an adult than I did as a kid. What a shame... ArthurVandelay 10-03-2007, 11:15 PM If anyone else is looking to trade episodes, I've got quite a few and I'm trying to complete my collection. Send me a PM and we'll talk. One more day of Wonder Years. Sad. shocolah 10-04-2007, 08:51 AM I think I'm going to be sick. When I saw that 48 Hours was coming on in the timeslot two nights a week, I thought no big deal, they just moved TWY somewhere else. But to yank it off....how I wish I would have taped them. I'm heartbroken....thanks, ION, for NOTHING..what a bunch of _____s!!! (insert the worst word you can think of). I'd pay 5000 bucks for all the episodes! OK maybe not but I'm gonna definitely look into trading with someone! towhead_72 10-04-2007, 09:31 AM I got to thinking about this schedule change yesterday, and I'm wondering if perhaps there is something in writing in the syndication contract for this show that limits the number of times the episodes can be aired during a given time period. That would explain why this series never seems to be aired for much longer than a couple of cycles of seasons at a time before it goes back into "hibernation" again. ArthurVandelay 10-04-2007, 11:43 PM Welp, that's it for the Wonder Years. At least there's still Mama's Family. Unreal. shocolah 10-05-2007, 09:14 AM http://www.fanpop.com/spots/the-wonder-years I went to this website ...a few full eps you can watch on your computer. Better than nothing! That's usually the case...if you go to TVLand.com and I think it's in the FAQ section (but I don't remember for sure and I don't have a moment to find you a link right now) there's a very interesting explanation about why shows leave networks, how those syndication contracts work, why sometimes only certain episodes like holiday eps and special eps are sometimes skipped, etc, etc. towhead_72 10-05-2007, 10:43 AM That's usually the case...if you go to TVLand.com and I think it's in the FAQ section (but I don't remember for sure and I don't have a moment to find you a link right now) there's a very interesting explanation about why shows leave networks, how those syndication contracts work, why sometimes only certain episodes like holiday eps and special eps are sometimes skipped, etc, etc. Yes...it is in TVLand's FAQs. It's too bad it isn't on longer. Mama's Family has already had 8 or 9 cycles I believe, which is just insane. I really don't see how that show can do better than TWY. Such a sad day today :( Hopefully they'll bring it back. Or, in my highest hopes, a network like TVLand will pick it up. I'm sure this show does well with the abby boomer audience, since this show was set in the baby boomer life of the sixties, which is exactly what TVland is going for these days. towhead_72 10-05-2007, 08:08 PM It is on this note that I bid farewell to ION. Although I have the series recorded, it's not quite the same as watching it while it is airing and knowing that many other fans are tuned in to it, also. From time to time, I will certainly do a search on my local listings on TVguide.com for the return of this show--on ION or any other network, that is. Unless, maybe I did catch the first cycle . . . It began the first week in April, per Pavan's archived March blog, and a complete cycle takes about two and a half months @ a rate of two episodes a night, five nights a week. The second cycle took longer, of course, since they subtracted the Friday night airings starting the end of June. Classicshowsgurl15 10-07-2007, 03:22 AM It sucks that its being replaced with 48 hours. Perfect Strangers is a nice addition though. I will miss The Wonder Years. I'm glad that I got them all on tape. I watched them all and taped them. I hope they bring it back eventually. The second cycle took longer, of course, since they subtracted the Friday night airings starting the end of June. It never aired on Friday nights. It's always been the RHI miniseries airing then. With only 5 full seasons of the show (seasons 1 and 2 combined total 24 episodes) it will take a lot faster for this show to make a cycle than other shows. Artfiore1 10-13-2007, 12:04 AM Hi, everybody, It's all in how you look at it. I could be really upset that I will no longer be watching "The Wonder Years" every night on Ion. Instead, I am grateful that somebody has decided to do away with the only reason I had for ever watching that channel. Later, Art: Bye and Thanks, Ion  Scoobiedoo30 10-13-2007, 12:59 AM just think of it as Hiatus. JulieSomoski 10-13-2007, 11:16 AM just think of it as Hiatus. A long, long hiatus. The next time we'll probably get to see it is during ION's Christmas marathons. TWY has some great X-mas episodes, so I'm looking forward to that. CaptainCharisma 10-28-2007, 10:08 AM Wow. It just came back on TV in April, and it's already gone? I hated when ION got rid of Growing Pains, and now TWY is gone too. I guess I shouldn't get too attached to Perfect Strangers then (though at least that's coming out on DVD). I already have the seasons of TWY on disc, but it still sucks that it's not on TV anymore (for the time being). |
