LESSONS IN LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP

In the living room ……
Blair, and Natalie are sitting down on the couch. Tootie and Mrs. garrett are working on some things for the store sitting down at the table Jo enters the room

Blair: (looks up at Jo) hey jo wanna go to themovies tonight

Jo: (says it in a rude way) Why Blair your inviting me to the movies

Blair: yea do you wanna go?

Jo: sure why not Ive got nothing better planned

Mrs. Garrett: (she gets up from her chair and walks towards the couch) speaking of plans have you girls made any for spring break

Natalie: I was gonnea visit mygrandma in Florida, but she broke her hip

Mrs. Garrett: (in a symatic way) Oh Natalie Im sorry to hear that is she alright

Natalie: (smiling) sure she is shes dating her doctor

Jo: (smiling really big) wow love after 70 tell yougrandma we said you go granny

Natalie: (lauging a little bit) actually she was lucky itwas a clean break the doctor said it should heal quit nicely

Tootie: how did she break her hip in the first place

Natalie: She was in was doing senior jazzercise when it happened

Tootie: (nervously looks at her wrist to see she doesn't' have a watch on) what time is it

Mrs. Garrett: (looks at her watch) almost 9 in themorning way?

Tootie: there gonnea announce the winner of the radio contest this morning at exactly nine am

Blair: (looks up at Tootie with a confused look on her face) radio contest

Tootie: (walks over to join the others) yeah I entered it 3 months ago and today there finally picking the winner

Jo: I hate to break it to you tootie but you have to be 18 to a win a contest like that

Mrs. Garrett: (everyone stands up and they start walking towards the shop) Well come on girls wed better open up the store

Tootie: (talking to everyone as there walking) your right I mean the oddsof them calling me are a million to one
(the phone suddnely rings and everyone freezes Natalie turns to Tootie) you think

Natalie: I dont know

Tootie: What should I do

Mrs. Garrett: (getting impatient) Answer the phone

Tootie: I cant what if

Jo: (getting angry she walks towards the phone) Oh tootie relax Ill answer it

Tootie: (tootie quickly runs over and passes Jo up) No jo wait I'll answer it. (getting her breath) …… Hello……… yes this is her……… I did really. (getting excited)……. Oh my gosh thank you (she hangs up the phone and turns towards the others) guess what I won the radio contest

Jo: (really happy for tootie) no kidding Tootie thats great

Blair: So what did you win

Tootie: an all expensives paid trip Rainbow Cove during spring break

Natalie: (puts her hand on her chest and takes a deep breath) Rainbow Cove Tootie you are so lucky

Jo: Just how many people can you take with you

Tootie: 3 other people can join me

Blair: (turns to Jo with a phoney sad face) Oh Jo will miss you (smiles really big) but dont worry Im sure the others will send you a postcard

Mrs. Garrett: no I think you girls should just go and have a good time look your young you need to get out thereand experience life Ill be fine here

Blair: Ok that works for me (They all turn to Blair with dirty looks on there faces)

Natalie: look Mrs. Garrett if your not going then Im not going it just wouldn't be the same without you

Jo: Natalies right a vacation without you just wouldnt be right If Natalie doesnt go Im not going right Blair

Blair: wrong Im going Im not gonnea miss my chance to be in Rainbow Cove

Natalie/jo: Blair

Blair: Ok ok Natalie and Jo are right it just wont be the same with out you

Mrs. Garrett: look girls I appriciate it but Tootie only has 4 tickets so one of us has to stay at home

Jo: Oh thats right and something like that has to cost a pretty penny

Mrs. Garrett: (with a worried look on her face) yeah I just don't have those kinds of pretty pennys right now

Blair: (puts her amrs on Mrs. Garretts shoulders) Wait a minute I have those pretty pennys I could pay for your ticket

Mrs. Garrett: Blair I cant ask you to do that

Blair: (takes her hands down) you didnt ask I offered

Jo: (walks up to Blair and raise her voice) Thats still your answer toeverything isnt it Blair

Blair: Im only trying to help

Jo: Well Mrs Garrett doesnt need any hands out from you shes a proud women

Mrs. Garrett: (smiling) Thank you Jo

Jo: a women of her age has to beable to stand on her own to feet

Mrs. Garrett: (her smile quickly fades) Thank you Jo

Natalie: Mrs. Garrett I have 300dollars in my saving account you can have it

Mrs. Garrett: but Natalie don't you need that money

Natalie: na I was saving it for a trip and hey thanks to tootie I get to go on one for free

Tootie: I have about 150 dollars saved up its not much but you can have it

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles as she looks at each of the girls) Girls I thank you for what your trying to do but I don't
believe in hand outs you girls go and just have a great time

Blair: (in a very serious voice) your going with us Mrs. Garrett we wont take no for an answer you've done so much for us over the years this is or chance to do something for you

Jo: Blair's right we wouldn't of made it this far if it wasnt for you

Tootie: there right Mrs. Garrett say youll come with us

Mrs. Garrett: I dont know what to say Im (almost starting to cry) Im Im so (she sneezes)

Everyone Else: Bless you

Mrs. Garrett: Thank you girls: I'm so over joyed but I can't afford a trip like that not now anyways and besides what about the store

Tootie: The store's closes next week

Blair: and you won't have to pay for a thing well all chip in

Tootie: ah Blair even split 4 ways a trip like that is pretty expensive

Blair: you girls pay what you can, Ill pay the difference and you can pay me back later

Natalie: (looks at everyone with a smile) sounds good to me. Jo how do you feel about this?

Jo: look guys as much as I want mrs. Garrett to come along, theres just no way I can afford to pay Blair back

Mrs. Garrett; how about if we find another way for you to pay her back

Jo: (looks at Mrs. Garrett with confusion) what do you mean?

Mrs. Garrett: Well you can work a few extra hours in the store, and the store room needs to be cleaned and organized

Tootie: come on Jo what do you say?

Jo: (looks at everyone and then starts to smile) I say Rainbow Cove

Everyone: HERE WE COME

ONE WEEK LATER…….
Down in the living room.

(Mrs. Garrett enters in a panic) Mrs. Garrett: are you girls all packed. I know Im forgetting something Ijust know it lets see we got the plane tickets, our luggage, what am I forgetting I no Im forgetting (takes out a hankie and and starts to rip it)something Im becoming a nervous wreck

Jo: (comes down stairs carrying some tickets) hey Mrs. G you left the shuttle tickets upstairs (hands her the tickets)

Mrs. Garrett: the shuttle tickets (starts to smile) right see I knew I would I remember there was no need for you girls to worry Im gonnea go and double checkeverything in the kitchen (she leaves and goes into the kitchen Jo takes a seat on the couch and seat over by the table and graps a quick breakfast)

Natalie: (looks at Tootie and smiles) Rainbow Cove just thing tootie by this afternoon well be sitting on the beach tanning next to some of the cutiest guys God ever put On this planet (bits her fist)

Tootie: (smiles and laughs a little bit) and to that I say Amen sister let the good times roll (they high five each other)

Mrs. Garrett: (enters the room and is a little bit calmer) Ok everything turned off in the kitchen we (looks at her watch) still have 20minutes before the shuttle gets here and I can finally sit down and relax (takes a seat on a chair next to the couch)

Jo: (gets up from the table) good for you Mrs. G has anybody seen Blair

Tootie: last time I saw her she was upstairs packing her make up

Jo: I better go give her hand or will spend or entire vaction waiting on Blair

Natalie: (Natalie and Totoie look down to the floor right where Mrs. Garrett is sitting) Mrs. Garrett are you sure you didnt forget anything

Mrs. Garrett: yes I got the tickets, I turned everything off

Tootie: are you sure you didnt forget anything

Mrs. Garrett: (getting a little upset) girls Im postive there isnt one thing that I forget

Natalie: what about your shoes

Mrs. Garrett: (Mrs. garrett looks down to see that she doesn't have her shoes on laughing a little bit) Oh Oh my now wonder my feet were so comfortable I'll beright back (she leaves the room)

Natalie: you know I still cant figure out how you could of won the radiocontest I always thought you had to be 18

Tootie: (looks around the room to make sure that there alone) Ok I guess I can tell you, but you have to swear not to tell anyone (Natalie nods her head) I didnt enter the contest

Natalie: just how did you win a contest that you didn't Enter (Tootie looks the other way and then slowly turns back again Natalie starts to raise her voice) Tootie how did you win the contest

Tootie: (mumbles the words) I sorta wrote Jo's name on the card

Natalie: (raises her voice) You enter Jo's name in the contest how could you do that

Tootie: hey if it wasnt for me We'd all be stuck here in Peekskill overspring break

Natalie: well the only place your gonnea be stuck is in a hospital when Jo finds out about this

Tootie: (has a panic look on her face) and when she finds out about the thing shell just finish me off

Natalie: Right (pauses for a second) what other thing

(Jo Blair and Mrs. garrett all start coming downstairs. Jo's helping blair with her suitcases)

Tootie: (whispers to Natalie) Ill tell you later

Blair: (once there downstiars Blair takes a look at her suitcases) I forget my other makeup case (she stars to go back upstairs)

Mrs. Garrett; (gets in front of her) Blair you know someone like you with all that natural beauty really doesnt need to where a lot of make you

Blair: (smiling) Really Mrs. Garrett your right after all I was bless with perfect skin

Jo: (gives a phoney smile) to bad you cant say the same thing about your body

(the shuttle arrives and everyone is off to the airport)

(after a 2 hour plane ride and another 30 minute shuttle ride they finally arrive at the hotel)
(They all walk towards the hotel looking around)

Mrs. Garrett: finally we made it here wow would you just look at all that scenery its fantanstic

Natalie: (spots this really cute guy walking by) your so right Mrs. Garrett your so right Ill be right back (starts to follow the guy)

Jo: (places her hand on Nat's shoulder) later Nat we gotta check in

Tootie: (has a panic looked on her face) Check in

Blair: yes Tootie when you stay in a hotel checking in is something normally do

Mrs. Garrett: well come on gang lets check in so we can explore the island (they all walk inside the hotel a young girl in ratty clothes is over by the hotel clerk)

Hotel Clerk: look I already you thats against policy your gonnea have to leave

Jo: this is some fancy hotel were staying at

Blair: (looks around and smiles she then turns to the girl who's walking towards a man and has a discussed look on her face) yeah except for the riff raf over there I mean look at the (points to the girl) girl she certainly could use a hair brush and a bath oh and would you look at that man hes even grosser then her (The man and the girl leave the hotel)

Natalie: well you dont have to be grossed out anymore there leaving

Blair: thank goodness they left there smell was beginning to sting my eyes (rubs her eyes)

Jo: how could you be so heartless and cruel

Tootie: its easy your talking about Blair I'll go and check us in (tootie walks up to the front desk)

Mrs Garrett: Blair there homeless (Blair stares at Mrs. garrett like she cant' believe it))\

Tootie: (approches the Hotel clerk) hello were the Radio contest winners

Hotel Clerk: are you Samantha Carlton or Jo Anne Polinicheck

Tootie: no I'm Tootie Ramsey my friend Jo's over there

Hotel Clerk: ah yes well congraulations I'll just need to see Miss Polinicheck's id card and get her signature (he hands her a piece of paper and a pen)

Tootie: (has a worried look on her face) sure no problem (smiles a little bit) (the phone rings and the hotel clerk goes to answer it. While he's not looking Tootie graps 4 other pieces of paper)

(back over where the others are talking)

Blair: homeless thats crazy I never heard of a child being homeless

Natalie: it happens parents lose there jobs and cant afford decent housing and food for there kids

Jo: with the way prices are increasing and employment is decreasing more and more people find themselves living out on the streets

Blair: (has a concerned look on her face) thats just awful

Tootie (approches the group)

Tootie: hey guys I need your drivers licences and they need you to sign these papers)

Jo: (has a confused look on her face) what for

Tootie: hotel policy I guess (everyone hands tootie there licenses) thanks Ill be right back (tootie leaves again she quickly takes a look at the papers and puts them inside her pocket all except for jo's)

(Blair sits down on a near by couch with a worried look on her face. Mrs. garrett sits down next to her)

Mrs. Garrett: Blair is something the matter

Blair: I never imanged that kids could be homeless

Jo: its pretty scarey isnt it

Blair: yeah I wanna do something to help them

Mrs. Garrett: (smiling) good for you Blair attitude (Blair smiles)

Natalie: why dont we help serve dinner down at the mission

Blair: (smiles quickly fades) you mean we have to work in order to help them

Jo: (in a rude way) yes Blair thats what helping means I'll go and call the mission to see what time they serve dinner (Jo walks over to the pay phone

Tootie: Well where all checked in Mrs. Garrett you can bunk with Natalie and me. Jo and Blair have there own room I figured since there both in college they didnt need your supervision

Mrs. Garrett: (smiling and she puts her arms around Tootie)and Im so glad To see that you and Natalie still do

(Jo comes back to the group)

Natalie: what time should we be over at the mission

Jo: they start serving dinner at 5:00, the guy on the phone said to comeon over

Tootie: (confused by what's going on) what are you guys talking about?

Mrs. Garrett: we all thought it would be nice if we went down to missionand helped serve dinner tonight

tootie: sounds like a good idea, but on the way could we stop at the burger joint Im starving

Natalie: (puts her arms around Tootie and smiles) excellent idea

Jo: (looks over at the Women's room) Ill be right back I gotta use the restroom (she walks over to the restroom

Mrs. garrett/Blair/and Tootie all start to talk. Natalie spots a sign over near the front desk)

Natalie: (she walks over to get a better look at the sign) whats that the Rainbow Cove Hotel proudly presents the K.W.I.N radio beauty contest. The following (she contines to read and suddenly stops she turns towards Tootie) Tootie dear can I see you for a moment

Tootie: (walks over to Natalie) sure Nat whats (she suddenly freezes when she see's the poster) uuuuuppppp oh no

Natalie: Im just gonnea take a stap in the dark here this has something to do with the other part of the secret doesnt it

Tootie: (studders as she says the words) you could say that yea. Natalie what am I gonnea do if Jo sees this poster Im dead

Natalie: the contest is Monday afternoon I think your gonea have to tell her

Tootie: your right Ill tell her (pauses) from a payphone in Finland (Natalie gives her a look) alright Ill tell her tonight when were back at the hotel

Natalie: and the radio contest

Tootie: (starts to raise her voice) your really pushing it you know that (natalie gives her another look) alright Ill tell her about the radio contest too

Natlalie: (natalie see's Jo walk over towards the others)oh here comes Jo

Tootie: (Natalie and Tootie walk over to the others) hey Jo are you ready

Jo: yeah lets go (they all walk outside and walk down to the mission) The guy said it's just 3 blocks up Sutter street

(Arriving at the mission Blair walks up to the first person she sees)

Blair: hello were to help serve dinner tonight

Eric: (shakes Blairs hand) oh great my name Eric Brown and I run the mission lets see (takes a look around) it looks like we just need servers youll find some aprons in the back room

Blair: are there a lot of kids that come here

Eric: (pauses before he speaks) more then you could possibly imange

Mrs. Garrett: thats just heart breaking where do these families sleep atnight

Eric: theres about 3 missions here in town that supply about 200 beds would you please excuse me (he see's some people starting to come in. Mrs. Garrett and the girls all look at each other with concern in there faces.)

(They all start serving dinner, and young girl approches Jo)

Erin: excuse me can I please have another roll

Jo: (looks down at the girl with smyathic look) Sure would you like some butter with it

Erin: no thank you my names Erin Ive never seen you here before

Jo: (smiling) were actually here on vacation from Peekskill New
York

Erin: (smiles) your from Peekskill

Jo: actually Im from the Bronxs I moved to Peekskill when I started atEastland Boarding School

Jack: (Erin's father walks up to her) Erin come on sweetie dont brother nice the lady

Mrs. Garrett: (enters for the kitchen carrying a salad bowl) Hey jo hows it going?

Blair: (looks over at the man and the girl sitting at a nearby table) wasnt that the man and the little girl we saw at the hotel earlier

Jo: yea it was

(about 45 minutes later everyone's been served and Mrs. garrett and the girls are up in front talking)

Blair: Im gonnea go check out the tables to see how everybodys doing (Blair leaves the group. Tootie also
deciedes to go check things out and Natalie follows her)

Natalie: have you deceided how your gonnea tell Jo

Tootie: I tell her that the whole thing was your idea

Natalie: (screams) WHAT

Tootie: (quickly speaks) and at the last minute you chickened out, (slows her words down) and being such a wonderful friend agreed to step in and take the fall for you after all (puts her arm around Natalie) that's what friends are for (Jo suddenly walks by and gives both of them a strange

Tootie: I guess somebodys gonea have to sit jo down and just explain the contests to her someone whos kind and understand let me know how she takes it (she turns to Natalie and pats her on the back and then quickly leaves. Natalie follows her)

Blair: (walks around the room and she then approches the table with the man and the girl) hi have you gotten enough to eat

Jack: Oh yes I just felt like ate enough for 3 thanksgiving meals

Blair: (smiling) My names Blair Warner (extends her hand to shake)

Jack: Hi Im Jack Horowitz (extends his hand to shake and this is my daugher Erin (he turns to erin)

Blair: its nice to meet you both (says it with a smile)

Erin: Im gonnea go get something for dessert (she gets up from the table and Blair takes a seat)

Blair: how long have you and your daughter been homeless

Jack: (in a rather sad tone) I was downsized 4 months ago. We still ha enough money to last us while, but pretty soon the money was starting to ru out and the job offers weren coming in

Blair: (with a tearful voice) so you and you daughter live out on th streets

Jack: no we live the van its little cold during the middle of the night but it sure beat having to sleep in an alley (gives a little smile) I do miss the confronts of home, but as long as I have my daughter (he looks over to Erin) that's all I really need

Blair: (gives a smile) you and your wife must be very proud of her

Jack: (nods his head and smiles) thank you my wife passed away a few months ago

Blair: oh I'm sorry

Jo: (approaches the table) Hey Blair are you abou ready to go

Jack: Well I better go an check on my daughter it was nice talking toyou (Jack gets up to leave the table)

Blair: (gives a little smile) you too (her smile fades and she holds her head like she has a headace) Jo I feel jus awful

Jo: (makes a face like she's gonnea get sick) I know me too I had 4 pieces of cake

Blair: (looks up at Jo. Mrs. Garrett/Natalie/and Tootie all walk up to the table) Im not talking abou the cake his wife died several months ag And they've been living in there van all this time months

Jo: I just wish there wa something we could do to help

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles as she looks at the girls) I know wha you mean if we could help just one family that would make all the difference in the world

Blair: (gets a look of mystery in her eyes) just one family

TO BE CONTINED: I'll try and add some more this afternoon (I've finished writing the scribt now all I have to do is finish putting in the stage directions; howevr I wanted to send what I have now)

ARRIVING BACK TO THE HOTEL…….
Mrs. Garrett; I dont know about you girls but I feel s good about myself right now

Jo: (smiling to show how proud she is) me too Mrs. Garret helping out tonight really was a good thing

Mrs. Garrett: I'm gonnea go up to the room and finish putting the rest of my things away. Ill see you girls later (Mrs. Garrett heads towards the elevator)

Blair: (looks at everyone)So what should we do now

Jo: (has a sick look on her face)Well I dont know about you guys but Im gonnea walk across the street to the drug store to get something for my stomach

Blair: Ill go with I need to get a some items (Jo and Blair head out of the hotel)

Tootie: (stretches and yawns really big) Well Im going up to bed night Natalie (starts to walk away)

Natalie: (places her hand on tootie's shoulder) hold there Ramsey you were suppose to tell Jo about the contests

Tootie: look Nat she already doesnt feel good why bring her down even more

(Jo comes back inside and Blair follows her in holding her stomach and breathing really funny)

Blair: (asks in a concerned voice) Jo whats wrong

Jo: I feel even worse now

Blair: (helps her over to a near by bench) here lets sit on this bench take some deep breaths is that better

Jo: (pauses for a second) no not really (puts her hand on her mouth and runs to the bathroom) excuse me

Natlaie: (looks over to see Blair walking towards them) I thought Blair was doing to the drug store with Jo
Tootie: (they start walking towards Blair) Blair how come your not at the drug store

Blair: Jo's in the restroom tossing her cookies

Natalie: (has a sick look on her face) Oh gosh I wonder what made her sick

Blair: I think it was the 4 pieces of cake she had I'm gonnea go over to the drug store to get her something (Blair leaves just as Jo comes out of the bathroom. Natalie and tootie walk over to her)

Natalie: hey Jo how are you feeling

Jo: I feel like Blair looks when she wakes up in the morning

Tootie: Blair just went over to the drug store to get you something

Jo: Thats good I dont know what I thinking when I ate all that cake

Natalie: at the time it proberly seemed like a good idea

Jo: to bad my stomach doesnt agree with that (takes a seat on the bench and holds up stomach)

Blair: (rushes back over to the hotel) here Jo drink some 7up that should help

Jo: (takes the can from Blair, opens it and drinks some) Thanks Blair ah thats much better (takes a couple deep breaths)

Tootie: (sits down on the bench next to Jo) is your stomach starting to feel better

Jo: yeah a little bit Im just gonnea go up to the room, (slowly gets up from the bench)and sleep it off (Jo heads back upstairs)

THE NEXT MORNING IN Mrs. Garrett/tooties/and Natalie's room….there all getting ready for the day

Mrs. Garrett: morning girls howd you sleep last night

Tootie: (streches her body to wake herself up) Great slept just like a baby
Natalie: (gives Tooties a dirty look) yeah you kept making girgling sounds all night (tootie gives her a dirty look right back)

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles a little bit) Im gonnea go and check on Jo and Blair

Natalie: are you gonnea tell Jo today

Tootie: Im gonnea tell her right after breakfast

Natalie: Good Im gonnea go take a shower (natalie goes to take a shower and Tootie walks over to her suitcase to get somethings out)

(over at Jo and Blair's room Mrs. Garrett is outside the door)

Mrs. Garrett: (knocking on the door)knock knock knock

Blair: (Blair opens the door and smiles to Mrs. garrett) hi Mrs. Garrett come on in

Mrs. Garrett: wheres Jo

Blair: she went across the street to the drug store to get some Rolaids

Mrs. Garrett: (with a look of concern on her face) oh dear is she sick

Blair: she got sick last night from over eating, but shes feeling better now. Shes getting the Rolaids just incase she might need them

Mrs. Garrett: Well Ill see to it that she eats a light breakfast (Jo suddenly walks in the room carrying a piece of paper) hi Jo did you get your Rolaids

Jo: (almost yelling) never mind about that look at this (hands Blair the piece of paper and she starts to read it)

Blair: Radio beauty contest (looks up at Jo and does a tiny smile) Jo I didnt know you entered any contest And do you really feel that a beauty contest is right for you

Jo: I never entered any contests (there's a knock at there door)

Mrs. Garrett: I'll get it (walks over to the door) Whos there

Natalie: (her voice is heard from outside the door) its me Natalie

Tootie: (her voice is heard from outside the doro) and tootie (Mrs. garrett opens the door and and the girls enter) hi guys ready for breakfast Im starved (she suddenly see's the Jo's reading a paper about the contest and quickly says) but suddenly Im not so hungry bye (she turns to leave, but Natalie stops her)

Natalie: I think you better tell her

Tootie: (with panic in her voice) why dont you tell her

Natalie: (yells at Tootie) youre the one who enter Jos name in the contest in the first place (Natalie places her hand on her mouth when she realizes she told and Jo walks over towards Tootie with angry in her eyes)

Jo: (raising her voice) you entered my name in the radio beauty contest

Tootie: well I couldnt enter it Im under age

Jo: tootie how could you do that to me I hate beauty contests why Didn't you enter Blairs name (looks over at Blair)

Tootie: Oh I did and out of despression I also put in Mrs. Garretts Name (Mrs. Garrett shoots her a look)

Mrs. Garrett: tootie I cant believe you did that I want you to go downstairs right now and tell them the thruth

Tootie: (yells at Mrs. garrett) but theyll kick us out

Blair: (talks to Tootie with a concerning voice) Tootie Mrs. Garretts right (starts to talk in a rude manner) and besides Jo has no chance of winning a beauty contest why should she go all that humilation

Jo: (Jo's smile fades) No April Fools day (Natalie and tootie start to laugh Mrs. garrett starts to laugh, but she stops herself)

Natalie: (puts her arm around tootie) tootie Ill go with you downstairs if you want

Tootie: (smiles at natalie) thanks Natalie, but I got myself into the this mess and Ill get myself
out of this mess (Tooties leaves the room and everyone turns towards Jo)

Jo: I know what all of you are thinking look what Tootie did was wrong she had no right to enter my name in some stupid contest

Natalie: Jo what Tootie did was wrong, but look at it this way if she tells them thruth are vaction is gonnea be cut short

Blair: and take the next plane home to Peekskill (clasps her hands together) Jo Im begging You please say youll be in the contest

Jo: (pauses for a few moments looks around to everyone) alright but tooties gonnea owe me big when we get home Ill go and get her (Jo leaves the room and Tooties standing right outside the door leaning against the wall)

Tootie: (yells as she walks back into the room) well its about time I thought you would never come around

Jo: Mrs. G what do you think am I doing the right thing

Mrs. Garrett: you girls all know how I feel about lying

Blair: (looks towards Mrs. garrett and then back at Jo with a smile on her face) you see she's all for it

LATER THAT AFTERNOON BLAIR AND JO ARE UP IN THERE ROOM…..

Jo: Blair I dont know anything about a beauty contest

blair: Jo relax I can teach you everything you want to know about being in a beauty contest after all I did win Eastlands Harvest queen 3 years in a rows come on lets go shopping for a new dress

Jo: Blair I cant afford to buy a new dress

Blair: dont worry about it just consider it an early birthday present come on weve got less then 24 hours to turn you in a raving beauty (smiles at Jo and she smiles back Blair's smile quickly fades) and your're gonnea need all the help you can get (Jo smile fades)

DOWN AT A CAFÉ IN THE HOTEL….. Mrs. Garrett / Natalie and Tootie are sitting down)

Waiter: (a waiter comes up to there table and hands Natalie her drink) heres your coke miss can I get you anything else

Natalie: no thank you

Tootie: (waves she she spots them) theres Jo and Blair
Blair: (Jo and Blair approch them) hi guys Jo and I are going shopping anybody want to come along

mrs. Garrett: Sure I havne't had a chance to check out the shops yet What you say Natalie Tootie

Tootie: sounds great (they all leave the hotel and start walking down the stree as there walking they point out different sights in town and talk aobut them near a street corner Blair spots Jack and Erin and smiles)

Blair: why dont you guys go ahead I'll check up (they all watch as Blair walks over to Jack and Erin) hi its great to see You again

Jack: (smiles) Hi its great to see you again Blair isnt it

Blair: (smiles as she looks over at Erin) Right hi Erin

Erin: (smiles back at Blair) hi Blair

Blair: how would you like to meet me and my friends later for Dinner tonight were going to the beach for a barbarque

Erin: (looks up at her dad) can we daddy

Blair: great we'll meet you in front of the Rainbow Cove hotel (pauses for a moment) say around 4:30

Jack: (looking at Blair and smiling) well be there

LATER THAT DAY BACK UP IN JO / BLAIR AND MRS. GARRETTS ROOM
Jo: (paces the room for a few seconds with a worried lookon her face. She
then stops at her bed and turns to others) I dont know that dress really
wasnt me

Blair: (smiling to reassure her) Jo the dress you got was prefect you
lookedgreat in it (Jo does smile)

Natalie: (Jo and Natalie both take seats on the bed) so have you decied
whatyour gonnea do for the talent portion

Jo: (stands up and looks at everyone) What

Blair: I forget all about that part

Jo: (starts to panic and paces the room) Im dead I have no talent

Natalie: (looks over at Jo with concern) Jo there must be something you can
do

Jo: (crosses her arms and thinks for afew seconds) I can change a
transmission or drain a crank case do you thinkPeople would applaud at that

Blair: (says it with a completely straight face) I think they'd throw
tomatoesto you on stage

Tootie: (starts to laugh) You sing that's funny (Jo walks over to her

Natalie: (stands up from the bed, and puts her for support) thats perfect Jo
singing always wins over anaudience

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles as she's looking over at Jo and the others) and Jo if
youwant Ill play the piano for you

Tootie: lets go over to the music store and get a book of songs (Mrs.
Garrettand Blair grap there purses. They all go out the door. Natalie and
tootie stopat there room to pick up there purses. Jo has a money clip)

LATER THAT DAY OUT IN FRONT THE HOTEL. Mrs. Garrett and the girls are
waitingfor Jack and Erin
Natalie: (looks over at blair) What time did you tell themto meet us

Blair: (glances at her watch and then back to Natalie) they should be here
in15 minutes (she turns to Jo) so did you pick out a song yet

Jo: (smiling) yeah its an old but it still has a lot of meaning

Tootie: (smiles right at Jo)I cant wait to hear you sing

Jack: (jack and Erin walk up to the group) Hi I hope were not to late

Blair: oh no we just got out here a couple minutes ago this is (points to
Jackand then to Erin) Jack Horowitz
and his daughter Erin this is Edna Garrett (points over to Mrs. Garrett and
shesmiles to them) Natalie Green,(looksover at Natalie who waves a little
bit) and tootie Ramsey (Blair looks over atTootie who waves back to them) you
already know Jo (Jo smiles at them)

Jack: (he looks at the girls) Hi ladies its nice to meet you (pauses for
amoment when he looks at Jo) didnt we meet at the mission the other night

Jo: (points at him and smiles as she remembers) yeah we did your daughter
was asking me about the Bronxs

Jack: (looks at Jo and smiles) my wife was raised and born in the Bronxs

Jo: (smiles back )really what street did she live on

Jack: (thinks for a few seconds) I believe she lived in Chester Place and
4thStreet

Jo: (says it kind of loudly) No kidding (lows her voice) I lived about 2
blocks from there

Erin: (looks over at her father) daddy I'm getting hungry can we go down to
thebeach now

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles and puts her arm around Erin who's looking up at
Mrs.Garrett and smiling back) Im with you sweetie come on lets go

THEY ALL HEAD ON DOWN TO THE BEACH. OVER AT THE BEACH THERE'S BARBAQUE'S SET
UPFOR PUBLIC SEVERAL OF THEM ARE CARRYING GROCIES THAT WERE ALREADY BROUGHT
STARTHERE

Jack: (jack walks over to Mrs. Garrett who's working the barbarque leans in and smells the hamburgers) mmm smells delicious may I

Mrs. Garrett: (she hands steps aside and lets Jack work the barbarque) be my guest

Natalie: (Natalie Tootie and Erin coming walkign up) Hey Erin tootie and I are gonnea go collect sea shells down the beach

Erin: can I daddy

Jack: (thinks about it for a second and then in a very stern voice) sure go ahead just stay in sight where I can see you (natalie tootie and Erin all head on down the beach and Jack makes sure to keep a watchful eye on Erin)

Mrs. Garrett: your daughters very lovely

Jack: (after a brief moment Jack turns back to Mrs. Garrett) oh thank you shes my pride and joy she reminds me more and more of my wife everyday

(30 minutes later)

DOWN THE BEACH A LITTLE BIT TOOTIE NATALIE AND ERIN ARE COLLECTING SHELLS

Tootie: (Tootie takes a look at her watch and then walks over towards Natalie)we better start heading back now

Natalie: (putting her shells into a small bag) good idea Im starving

Tootie: (Looks over near the water to see Erin collecting some more shels and shouts to her) come on Erin lets head on back (they all head on down back to the barbarque and enjoy the rest of the afternoon)

MONDAY AFTERNOON (JUST BEFORE THE CONTEST)

DOWN IN THE CAFÉ…..EVERYONE IS EATING A LITTLE LUNCH

Mrs. Garrett: That was a wonderful barbarque yesterday Erin and Jack seemed
to enjoy it

Blair: I know Im thinking of calling my father to see if maybe can hire Jack you know to help get him and his daugher get back on there feet

Mrs. Garret: (Looks at Blair and smiles) what a wonderful idea Blair Im sure Jack and Erin will Love
that

Blair: (turns to Jo with a totally serious face) and I suppose you feel what Im doing is wrong helping someone out

Jo: (has a serious face) I didnt say that.(pauses for a moment and then smiles) Actually I think its a great idea

Blair: (smiles at her idea) Me too Ill call my father just as soon as the contest is over

Mrs. Garrett: (looks over at Jo and smiles) right come on you raving beauty weve got a contest to Get too

OVER TO THE CONTEST NATALIE AND TOOTIE ARE ALREADY THERE SAVIGN SEATS FOR THE OTHERS

Natalie: (she's reading her program. Looks up and sees Mrs. Garrett walk in) hi guys we saved your seats

Tootie: (puts down her program to talk to Mrs. Garrett) Wheres Blair?

Mrs. Garrett: She back stage with Jo

Natalie: oh making sure that her makeup looks just right

Mrs. Garrett: (lauging a little bit) no holding her hand I think shes getting nervous about The contest Im getting a little nervous to

Tootie: (smiles) Ah Mrs. Garrett thats so sweet your worried about Jo

Mrs. Garrett: (looks at her with worry in her eyes) who cares about Jo (points to herself) what if I mess up when Im playing the piano for her

Natalie: (taps her hand to reasure her) youll do just fine Mrs. Garrett


BACK STAGE JO'S SITTING DOWN ON A CHAIR AND BLAIRS IN FRONT OF HER PUTTING ON HER MAKEUP.

Blair: now Jo remember when you go out there hold your head high, walk tall, and remember to smile (Blair steps to the side, Jo stands up wearing a light shade of green dress. That just has a simple pattern no ruffles or anything fancy. She walks across the room. Blair nods her head to show that she's doing everything right. She turns to Blair and smiles Blair walks up to her and smiles) very good

Jo: (Jo's smile fades as she feels nerovous) Blair Im getting nervous what if mess up, what if freeze out there,what (she starts pacing the room)I cant remember the words to the song what if. (she turns towards Blair)

Blair: (Blair places her hands on her shoulders for support) What if you stop saying what if Jo win or lose this contest You'll always be a winner to us (she smiles to reasure her)

Renee: (another contestent walks bye and is very rude) you just remember that when I take away the crown today

Blair: (Jo shoots her a look and Blair takes rudly to the girl) Oh yea and just who do you think you are

Renee: (says it with pride) Im Renee Johnston, and Ive won every beauty contest Ive Ever been in

Blair: well get ready to lose because my friend shes gonnea win today

Renee: (starts lauging)keep dreaming honey (she walks away)

Blair: (Blair stares at her for a moment and then turns back to Jo)can you believe the nerve of some people

Jo: Blair cool it shes just trying to sic me out (she calms blair down)

Blair: (breathes a sigh of releif) I better take my seat good luck

Jo: thanks Blair

Blair: now remember beat the sot out of brat

Jo: (looks at Blair like she could less about Renee) blair come on were all in college now

Blair: (smiles) your right it's time like these we gotta act mature I'll see you later (Blair heads on out and passes Renee she sticks her thumbs in her ears and sticks out her tonuge) NANNY NANNY NANNY

JO: (walks over to Blair and is a little upset) oh that's really mature Blair (Blair shoots Renee another look and then turns back to Jo) would you just go (Blair starts to leave)

Renee: just goes to show you some people cant' stand around of a loser (she turns towards the exit where Blair's standing)

Blair: (turns back towards Renee) and I'm sure that's how your parents felt about you

Jo: (Jo starts pacing the room and see's the other girls standing and watching the show bewteen Renee and Blair Jo walks back over towards blair and Renee)

Renee: (turns towards Jo and in a very stuck up manner) get ready to lose

Blair: (walks up to her raises her voice) she's only lose if she had your face (she's lunghes forwards towards Renee but Jo hold her back Jo shoots her a look that says would you just get out of her) alright I'm going (Blair finally leaves)

Mike: (he's walking back and forth across the stage as he speaks) good afternoon Ladies and gentlemen on behalf of KWIN Radio station and the Rainbow Cove Hotel I want to welcome you all to the 7th annual radio beauty contest each of the girls being presented tonight have all won a radio drawing which brought them all here so you can see them in all there glory. (he turns to the side of the stage where the girls are waiting) Lets bring out the girls now (the girls start to enter from both sides of the stage) Gretchen Anderson (everyone claps as Gretchen comes out on stage) Renee Johnston (everyone claps as Renee comes out on stage.) Jo Anne Polnicheck (everyone claps as Jo comes out on stage)

Back in the audience…….

Tootie: (jo looks up and smiles when she see's Jo. She point to her so the others can see her. There all smiling for her) Theres Jo she looks so Beautiful

Natalie: I love the color of that dress its so pretty

Mrs. Garrett: Ill say (smiling she turns towards Blair) Blair you really out did yourself that dress really brings out the green in her eyes

BACK UP ON STAGE……

Mike: (mike turns his attention to the ladies) Jamie Wakefield (everyone claps as Jamie comes out on stage) and finally Samantha Carlton (everyone claps as Samantha comes out on stage) Thank you ladies you all look lovely (turns to the audience) dont they the ladies will now perform there talent numbers first up (the girls all exit the stage)

(first girl goes out and she doesa tap number). (The second girl comes out and she does some magic tricks. The next girl comes out and she goes some gymastics)

Mike: (comes back on stage just as Samantha finishes her number everyone's clapping for her) ladies and gentlemen Samantha Carlton

Mrs. Garrett: (smiles at the girls as she goes back stage to get ready)

Mike: (smiling and looking at the audience) and now please welcome Renee Johnston as she sings over the rainbow

Renee: (Renee enters the stage and beings to sing) Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly

Mrs. Garrett: (talking to Jo who's wearing a tan blazer a tan skirt and a small hat)Jo you look great I love that custom you picked out

Jo: I dont know maybe Im not doing the right number (starts to pace the room and she gets a little nervouse)

Mrs. Garrett: well you couldalways back out

Jo: (starts to walk past mrs. Garrett) Ok

Mrs. Garrett: (pauses for a moment) on the other hand (Jo turns back to her)we've all come to hear you sing today

Jo: you really know how to make a person feel guity (pauses for a moment and then smiles) ok Ill go out there

Mike: and now for our final contested please welcome Jo Anne Polincieck as she takes us
back to the 40s singing Boogig Woogie Bugle Boy

Jo: (Jo enters the stage just as the music starts) He was a famous trumpet man from out Chicago way He had a boogie style that no one else could play He was the top man at his craft But then his number came up……. (Jo contines to sing)

BACK IN THE AUDIENCE……
Everyone's: (really getting into the song there clapping along with the music, and some people are dancing in the isles)

OUT ON STAGE…..

Jo: (singing) He makes the company jump when he plays reveille He's the boogie woogie bugle boy of Company B He's the boogie woogie bugle boy of Company BE

Everyone: (stands up and cheers and claps for Jo)

Mike: (comes back out on Stage and the other girls Join him) you ladies all did a wonderful job today (turns to the audience) let's give them another round of apploause (everyone claps for the girls) but there could only be one winner and the winner is (he pulls out an enevelope open it) Jo Anne Polnicheck (everyone ,except for Renee, clap, and cheers for Jo (mike takes her hand and leads her down in front of the stage)

Last years winner: (comes out on stages places a crown on her head a sash over her shoulders and flowers in her arms)

Jo: (smiling and walkign across the stage. From the side just off the stage she glances at her reflection in the mirror only to discover it's Blair reflection looking back at her Dressed exactly like her she blinks her eyes for a couple seconds when she looks again she still see's Blair reflection in the mirror her eyes get wide as saucers) AAAAAHHHHHHUUUUGGGG (she screams) (the picture gets all fuzzy when it's in focus again were back in the girls room in peekskill)

IN THE GIRLS ROOM IN PEEKSKILL…

Jo: AAAAAHUUGGG (still screaming she suddenly wakes up and starts to breathe really heavy)

Natalie/Tootie/and Blair all wake up Mrs. garrett comes running in)

Mrs. garrett: (yelling) girls what's wrong

Natalie: (with concern in her voice) Jo are you alright

Jo: (still trying to get her breath) I just had an awful dream

Tootie: (sits up in her bed) Jo what did you dream about

Jo: I dreamed that I won a beauty contest and all of a sudden I turned into Blair (she looks at Blair with panic in her eyes)

Natalie: that''s no dream that's a nightmare (Blair shoots her a dirty look)

Mrs. garrett: (walks over towards Jo bed and sits down on the edge. She puts arms around Jo's shoulders) well your safe now

Jo: (smiling at mrs. Garrett) yeah (she turns towards Blair) oh did your father come through for Jack and Erin

Blair: (looks at her with total confusion) who are Jack and Erin

Jo: the father and daugher we all meant while we were on vaction…..(she stops and see's that everyones giving her weird looks) in Rainbow cove ……. (pauses for a few moments) I must of dreamed that part too it just all seemed so real

Tootie: Well tell us more about your dream jo (the others all look at jo)

Jo: Well it started a week before spring break…… (she contines talking as the closing credit start to roll)
