-For those of you on my ( The Canadian side ) of the border, Season 5 of Corner Gas begins Monday (tomorrow).....The promotional ads for this season are a wonderful vignette depicting a Dog River dancing contest with Davis and Karen, Emma and Oscar, Hank and Wanda ( As strange as that seems ) and of course Brent partnered with Lacey all vying to win the contest with varying styles, with Brent eventually winning the contest with his famous "Dopey dance" from the harvest dance episode! Lacey looks a little embarrased until the judges award the contest prize to her and Brent......which leads to them fighting over the prize! :lol: ( When the CG s5 DVD comes out, i hope they add this wonderful and entertaining promo as a bonus!!! )
-Hopefully, this promo is hinting that the Lacey-Brent relationship that seemed to cool off in season 4 will rekindle in season 5, cause lets face it, thats what we die hard fans of the show WANT to see!!!
-People who've seen the promo will also notice that Tara Spencer-Nairn ( Who plays Officer Karen Pelly ) has let her hair grow out to its natural dark brown colour ( Last year it was halfway there and looked pretty strange ).....the jury is still out as to whether she looks better as a blonde or as a brunette!

The outing has some wonderful moments, as when Frank (Fred Ewanuick) chirps about how cannily The Beachcombers resembles life in Dog River.
"Yeah," Brent replies wryly, with the wisdom of the ages, "If you replace the ocean with no ocean at all, the similarities are eerie."

The actors in Corner Gas clearly enjoy each other's company. They're having a blast, and the show is a blast to watch as a result.

I can't understand why CG has been shoved to such a late time-slot as 9:30 ET, but, you can be sure ill be watching tonight!!! :D

Well, I've just finished watching the season 5 premiere episode, and, I LAUGHED SO HARD MY THROAT IS SORE!!! This was easily the best ep of CG in at least 3 years, and the closest to the original concept since season 3....
The fresh blood ( they hired 2 new writers this year to replace the 2 that went over to the CBC ) has really paid off in giving the show a freshness that was missing in season 4, for the most part.
I knew I was in for a great show as soon as I heard the opening gag....Hank compares Dog River to The Beachcombers ( A Classic Canadian show about men scraping a living out of the recovery of stray logs in the vast lakes of BC ): "Yeah," Brent replies wryly, with the wisdom of the ages, "If you replace the ocean with no ocean at all, the similarities are eerie."...but what was the real kicker for me is Karen saying that "Street Legal" was in HER opinion the greatest Canadian TV show ever, only to have Oscar yell "STREET LEGAL SUCKED!" :rofl:
( For those who dont know, this joke is only funny if you realise that Eric Peterson , who plays Oscar, starred on Street Legal before he joined the CG cast!! :lol: )

Well, the new time for CG is Mon at 9:30 ( after DWTS) < it was mon 8 pm last year, but, because DWTS was 2 hours ( until 10 ) it knocked out CG from its new timeslot.....CTV has been screwing around with the shows timeslot for 5 years, and i always hated that, but now, I have a place to bitch about it, and I did! :lol:

Well, finally after a 2 WEEK wait, the second new ep of the season will be on tonight and I cant WAIT til 9:30....thx to Dancing with the stars going 2 hours last week, there was no broadcast of CG....I thought that wouldnt be TOO bad, as the Comedy Network was supposed to air the show on Sat; and promoted it as such, but, come Sat. night, I tuned in , only to see a rerun of a show from Season 3!!!!! So, it's been 2 weeks since the season debut and i'm chomping at the bit!!!....... Tonights ep was a classic "3 story" ep, with Brent , Lacey and Hank playing golf, Brent losing on purpose cause he cant stand hearing Hank whine; Wanda attempting to fix a parking ticket, but, finding that Karen isnt as easy to bribe as Davis and the older Leroys buy a new adjustable bed...........and Emma has romantic dreams......about the bed salesman!!! :lol: An ok ep, but, not as good as the first 2, of this promissing season! Yep, no doubt about it, Lacey is still attracted to Brent........but, it seems that she wants a more manly version! As usual, Wanda is the only one who can see how Lacey really feels, whereas Brent seems completely oblivious to her gazes. (Well, this IS Brent were talking about here!)
Theres a side story about Hank & Karen making crop circles and Oscar and Emma giving Davis the idea that they're getting a divorce ( Which results in a kind of "Odd Couple" story when he offers Oscar a place to live for a few days!) One cool thing is, the Dog River police dept have TWO cars again....the old one, now Karen's and a brand new cruiser , which is Davis' car, of course! " I'm always car one!!" ;) :lol:

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is his dry and stiff self during his turn on the next Corner Gas.

Well, there’s plenty goin’ on in the season-ending episode that airs on CTV on March 12.

And we aren’t talking merely about the guest appearance by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

So much is goin’ on, in fact, that the basic premise of Corner Gas, if not its outright future, has been thrown into question.

Now, it would be going too far to conclude Corner Gas is finished. Loyal fans probably can quit hyperventilating, unless they’re enjoying themselves.

That said, when creator/star Brent Butt decides he’s had enough, that’ll be it. For the time being, we’re betting CTV is making it financially worthwhile for Butt to continue, given the fact Corner Gas is poised to deliver its 69th consecutive episode with a million-plus audience.

These are dire days in Dog River, though.

Of the eight main characters on Corner Gas, seven on the March 12 show will experience staggering changes, most of which relate to employment.

The one person whose situation doesn’t really change — Hank, as played by Fred Ewanuick — is the unwitting cause of the turmoil.

Ultimately, Brent sells his gas station to the Pump N’ Go conglomerate, and Lacey (Gabrielle Miller) moves back to Toronto. If this means Miller is leaving the show, maybe her character will get her own spinoff in the Big Smoke.

We suggested in a column last October that perhaps it was time to shake up the cast on Corner Gas before the gas went stale. This isn’t just shaking, it’s baking.

Then again, Corner Gas is a sitcom, so maybe next season everything will be back to normal and we’ll discover one of the characters merely was having a dream.

Here’s a serious plea, though: If next season begins with someone in the shower, a la Bobby Ewing in Dallas, please let it be Miller and not Butt. Thanks in advance.

As for Harper’s performance, heck, he fits right in. After all, part of the shtick on Corner Gas is that it’s a little dry and a little stiff.

We will say this, however, without a hint of sarcasm:

We are very glad to live in a country where our prime minister can go on a show like Corner Gas and poke fun at himself.

I just rewatched season 5 ep 4 "Bad Boy Brent" and, ive decided to change my rating from 7/10 to 8.5/10~~~!! that show was SO funny!!! :lol: :woohoo:

I finally saw the episode! Seeing as Alberta is right next to Saskatchewan you'd think we'd get to see CG a little bit more often but nooooo. Reruns from S1-4 are on a couple evenings a week on Comedy, but that's it.
Oh well, I finally saw the last episode and thought it was hilarious! Davis's "Alien parking violation" cracked me up! Also, Oscar's line about the sleep around made me laugh: I've got a friend from the UK who didn't know what 'sleep around/sleeping around' meant over here, and we used to tease her mercilessly when she'd ask if we wanted to get together for a sleep around. It's kind of a running joke among us now. Ah, good times.
Can't wait for Monday, and hopefully a network in the States will pick up season 5 for you guys Irene (fingers crossed for you!).

WGN has a 2 year contract, so, likely they will show season 5 next year

Just watched S5 #5 ..and well, its the weakest show of the season, some good laughs , especially Hank trying NOT to wash his truck, while being chased by a troupe of scouts trying to get their "Car Wash" badges! :lol:
Another good part is the "teaser".....Wanda has a crush on the new milk delivery man, and trying to make conversation, starts by telling him "I really love milk, especially 2%; but, when he doesnt respond she asks him "Oh, are you a homo man?" :lol: (In Canada Homoginised milk is labelled "HOMO" ) 6/10 Some good laughs

This week, they are repeating the FANTASTIC Oscar's cel phone show on Comedy on Sat, no new show this week :( That stupid dance show is running late again.....so i'm watching a special on Carol Burnette (She had the greatest variety-sketch comedy show of all time)

That dance show always runs late on Mondays. That is the day when all the dancers strut their new dances and we the audience must decide who to vote for this week.

Tonights show was hilarious, the best storyline involved Dog River receiving the gift of an ancient blessed Samurai sword from their new "Twin" town in Japan.......and the entire town takes turns "playing" with it! :lol: The other 2 stories are intertwined, as Wanda takes over the bar for a week......and does her best to "help" her clients (And we all know how good Wanda is at "helping"). Meanwhile, Hank decides he wants to be a bartender TOO, offers to be her assistant, and makes all sorts of new drink concoctions that no one wants to TRY! :rofl: GREAT EPISODE, 8.5/10

Finally saw the show i missed on Monday and man was it worth the wait!!!!
I havent laughed that much since "The Taxman"......OMG hilarious!!!!!!!!!!

The show has the usual 3 segments and they are all equally hilarious!
Wanda goes from the lazy assistant clerk we all know and love, to a dynamo, when she gets hooked on energy drinks; prompting her to clean the pop freezers, from the inside, and to fix the gas station roof...all without Brent having to ask. In another story thread, Karen accidentally knocks out Davis, causing her to lose confidence in his ability to protect her in a "back-up" situation; and, in the third story, Oscar takes over as the driver of the Dog River high-school bus!!!!!!! And, despite the fact that the kids are all well-behaved members of the local church group, Oscar decides it's time to "Lay down the law" with the kids!!!!! (Causing the first ever Dog River school bus riot!) :rofl: Funniest show EVER 10/10 ~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i personally think that they should start airing the new season in a regular PRIME TIME slot - how could it do any worse than anything else they've got?

The ep centres around Oscar's "sponsored orphan" from Kenya, who comes to visit, and Dog River takes a liking to him,, especially Oscar, much to Brent's detriment!

Well, it's been 3 looooonnnnng weeks but, tonights season 5 episode "Classic Corner Gas" was worth the wait..... Brent learns he's not an only child......well, sort of, he has a Kenyan "Foster Child" "brother"......A young man that his parents sponsored from overseas, who is now a doctor, much to Oscar & Emma's delight; leaving Brent the "Child left behind" (Once again Lacey's hot and cool feelings towards Brent, go cool, as she falls under the spell of the "new Leroy son"....only Hank is on Brent's side, much to Brent's dismay!) . Meanwhile, Lacey can't seem to sell her NEW menu items, until she puts the word "Classic" in front of them (She got the idea from Classic Coke!) Probably the funniest joke on the show is a 80s flashback of Oscar, being told that Emma registered them for a Foster parent's plan , resulting in Oscar showing up at the Foster's house down the road, and telling them that he came over to get the kids! :rofl:
The other subplot has Wanda trying to hide the fact that, despite all her degrees, she can't do math "in her head", after the cash register is broken! :lol: 7/10

FINALLY A NEW SHOW......Tonight Comedy is going to show the first new CG ep since before Xmas; I'll be reviewing it tonight, stay tuned! :D

The teasers show that Wanda has a really sore back (probably from all that stacking Brent makes her do in the gas station) and everyone in town uses her as a Guinea-pig for their various home remedies, including Emma's "paste" that instantly gives Wanda an all-over rash! :lol:

Tonight's new CG was a good , but not great episode:
Wanda hurts her back stacking washer fluid (yeah, i called THAT one) and so Emma and Karen both try their "home remedies" on her , neither of which help Wanda in the least (in fact, they make things worse), shes too polite to admit it though (Wanda polite? she MUST be in pain), so the two other women fight over WHO's cure was the best one and it turns into a real war of nasty words! In the other stories, Oscar finds a mouse at the gas station and decides that it has to die, meanwhile Davis (being Davis) is trying to find a safe way to catch the mouse without hurting him (I think it would have been funnier if they had reversed the usual roles and made Davis the one hunting the mouse and Oscar trying to save it) The third story has Brent and Hank trying to outdo Lacey on who can make up the best believeable "lie" (Poor Lacey, as the World's WORST liar hasnt a CHANCE in this contest!)
i give this ep a 6.5 some really good laughs but, not in the top 10 CG eps

Tonights episode ( Knit Wits) was CG at its best.... The main plots have Lacey and Brent at each other's throats over who treats their employees better, causing Brent to boycott eating at the Ruby until Lacey takes down her "Customer of the month" pic; namely WANDA that Lacey put up when Brent complained about the "Employee of the month" pic she put up of her cook Josh :eek:.
In the other stories, Hank joins Emma's Knitting Club when the Model Train Club folded (He was hoping to meet the models :lol: ) and roles are reversed when Emma takes to Hank's being around ("I like talking to you Hank, you actually listen"), while Hank is being driven nuts by Emma's chattering and starts doing anything to avoid her......including getting a JOB! :eek2:
The third story has Oscar taking over a newspaper column, only to recruit Davis and Karen to write it for him.
Hilarious if a bit uneven 8/10

Tonights Corner Gas is likely to upset all the "Brent/Lacey secretly love each other" fans (Like me).......Brent falls for a farmer's niece while hunting for water on their property (with a divining rod) and SPOILER>>>>> "impresses" her by finding the septic tank!
Meanwhile, Davis and Lacey buy a house together (As partners in a "house flip" scheme) , but, Davis begins to imagine living in the house WITH Lacey (And "their" kids! :eek: ), meanwhile, self-proclaimed expert at everything Wanda works as their unlicensed real-estate agent (A little like the ep where she thought she was Judge Judy) and Karen, Hank and Oscar vie to be the Gumball King of Dog River (Trying to outsell each other, with the best gum machine in town....i wont tell you who wins) Some good laughs, but, kind of uneven in timing..... i think the director was taking a 4 day weekend here :lol: 7/10

Tonight's ep was even better than imagined, Lacey has a "girly party" and invites the girls to get their tarot card fortunes read, however, only Lacey tries it and finds out shes destined to meet and marry an unemployed man from Dog River...fortunately, his name starts with "R" (Lacey is relieved because while that all describes Hank, his name thankfully begins with H )......Strangely, Hank Reveals that he goes by his middle name, and is actually a RICHARD (!!) ; sending Lacey into a depression , especially when Hanks learns about her "future" and seems totally thrilled by it!! 9/10 HILARIOUS EP!!!

In tonight's Corner Gas, Wanda finds a NEW way to get "time off" from work....she starts crashing funerals ( A great way to get a day off, and a free lunch!!!) :lol: Much to her chagrin, Oscar finds her out and demands a "piece of the action", as Emma has just gotten a new job, and Oscar would otherwise have to make his OWN lunch!
In the other stories, The town is trying to get a new call centre and Emma has been hired to lobby for it (the aforementioned job), unfortunately, Hank and Davis are against it, and do all they can to kneecap things, by calling everyone in town to show them how annoying call centres ARE. (Pretty intelligent scheme for those 2 half wits!!! :p )
In the third story, Lacey has received a very large box by internation air-mail and Brent and Karen both resort to underhanded tricks to try and find out whats in it! (This may be the only ep of CG in which not a single scene takes place in the Ruby!!!! :eek: )

i am wondering if WGN is gonna show season 5, or if they will just start the series over again at the end of season 4?

i personally think that they should start airing the new season in a regular PRIME TIME slot - how could it do any worse than anything else they've got?

I haven't seen a double dose of Wednesday night CG in a while. I keep forgetting. 5 p.m. is a busy time for me, that is when I make dinner or tend to other stuff.

Well, they were playing season 5 #1 last night, not Wed

I didn't see it last night. I was on here (S.O.) and then I went to bed. I haven't seen it for a week I think.

I've lost track of how many shows we're into, here in Season 5 (Which has now begun showing on WGN in the USA, btw) but, tonight's show was the best so far this year (And this has been the BEST season since S1!), so that's saying something! Hank comes to the gas station with a little present for everyone: PINK EYE and Brent, Lacey and Wanda panic, causing Hank to be banned from the gas station and the Ruby...however, while Hank takes it all in stride, the story is different, on the other hand, when Wanda is next to get the dreaded pink eye, shes out for revenge!!! Meanwhile, Lacey is giving out "Dog River Dollars" as a promotional tool, and Oscar figures out a way to make them "go further" as it were. The third story is arguably the funniest of the 3, when Davis decides that, rather than make his own decisions about what to order at the Ruby, he'll just order whatever Karen does; soon, hes copying her every movement and word, which, understandably, is driving her nuts! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Tonight, Wanda introduces her cousin to the gang, but forgets to call Lacey "a friend", making Lacey think that maybe Wanda doesnt really like her.....and of course, Lacey becomes obssessed. Meanwhile, Hank decides to protest the lack of Daylight Savings time in Sask by adopting it on his own, putting him outof synch with everyone else! While all this is going on, Oscar is telling everyone what Emma is getting them for Xmas; in exchange for favours! lots of laughs
7/10
