View Full Version : What is your favorite and/or least favorite medicine?
ThomasE 09-22-2007, 01:43 AM I was sick throughout this week and my aunt suggested that I take some type of medicine called "Buckleys". That white colored substance is like four alarm ammonia in the mouth with the aftertaste of Robotussin. If not careful, you will have trouble breathing because the taste kicks in so quickly. That is by far the worst tasting medicine that I have tasted. What about you guys?
I later this week saw an episode of "Will and Grace" in which Karen was depressed and her maid told Grace that Karen was pouring milk in her cereal and Grace thought that Karen's case was severe because Karen generally pours Buckley's into cereal when things are normal. LOL.
Zoneboy 09-22-2007, 02:07 AM I detest all medications both OTC and prescription and will only take them if absolutely necessary. My diabetes meds are the only thing I take on a daily basis. I used to take heartburn meds quite frequently but I cured myself of that almost 3 years ago and haven't needed any since.
ThomasE 09-22-2007, 02:15 AM Wow! That's pretty good.
catlover79 09-22-2007, 11:02 AM I hate also taking medicine and won't take it unless I absolutely have to. So I don't have a favorite medicine. I do hate taking those pills that are the size of footballs, are hard to swallow and when you finally do, you can still taste them after an hour or so. YUCK.
Ireneparalegal 09-22-2007, 02:25 PM Benadryl is a medication I take frequently to help me sleep. I was not liking the medication my doctor prescribed me for sleep (insomnia) so he told me if I didn't want to take prescription meds then Benadryl would be a good option. I actually like it because I don't have such a drowsy feeling in the morning.
Courtnee 09-22-2007, 08:10 PM I don't know that I have a favorite.
All I ever take is asprin and Benadryl when my allergies act up. Extra Strength Excedrin is my favorite medicine, it's the only thing that will get rid of a bad headache when I get one. The worst medicine I've ever took was castor oil when I was in the hospital in the 70's. I hate that stuff.
Ireneparalegal 09-22-2007, 08:40 PM I hate taking tylenol w/codeine because it actually makes me jittery and keeps me from sleeping. Though, it relieves me of my pain that I have, still, I don't like the side effects of it.
*ClassicPinUp* 09-22-2007, 09:29 PM I try to keep it natural and avoid any medicine but I have a never ending love for my midol :p.. for the obvious reason but mainly for the energy boost it gives. Although I do limit even that.
Least favorite would be that pink, bubble gum, chalky tasting stuff I use to get as a little kid whenever I was sick. Ohhh, I hated that stuff! Horrible!

PEPTO BISMOL
The one I seriously hated as a child and my father made me take it everytime I mentioned I had a stomach ache was MILK OF MAGNESIA. I guess he figured, if I was lying abt a stomach ache, I was either going to admit it or I would suffer the consequences by having to take that crap-tasting medicine. :puke:

 Yep that was it! Ewww just thinking about it.. Uh I can taste it! Milk of Magnesia was another one for me too! I'd rather suffer through the sick stomach then take that stuff.
dawsongirl 09-23-2007, 01:53 AM I've taken so much Pepto that it doesn't taste that bad anymore. O_O That's scary.
Don't like:
Any pill the size of a house, solid, liqui-gel, capsule, whatever.
Ny-Quil Daytime Liquid. I think it's a lot worse than the nighttime cherry flavored, and that isn't exactly Kool-Aid. Plus, then last time I took it on an empty stomach and I got a stomachache.
Mylanta. I think I'd rather barf. I took this stuff a lot as a kid. *shudder*
Benadryl. Only because on Paxil, the two together make me jittery. Very unpleasant feeling.
Claritin. It doesn't work. No wonder it went OTC.
Like:
Triamcinolon. It stops the eczema itch well.
Advil. Waaaaaaay better than Tylenol, which never even makes a dent in a small headache.
Day/Ny-Quil. Tastes bad, but it does work well.
Pepto. Stops diarrhea well.
coffield3 09-23-2007, 08:05 AM beechams.
catlover79 09-23-2007, 10:53 AM I almost forgot the nastiest stuff of all - several years ago I had to take a CAT scan. Before that, I had to drink liquid barium. puke: That is the grossest medicine of all!!!
Pepto Bismol now comes in pill form, in case you didn't know. Sure beats taking the liquid form! ;)
Ohio8 09-23-2007, 01:06 PM I like Ricola and Fisherman's Friends cough drops. Hall's cough drops are also good, and I also like Nyquil.
ThomasE 09-23-2007, 11:04 PM Until I grew up, I never knew that alcohol existed in medicine.
Yooch 09-24-2007, 01:07 AM A qualifier first: I avoid taking any medicines if at all possible, but when I have to, Tylenol (taken of course, according to directions) is my favorite. It always works for any pain relief or headaches that I may have--and has zero side-effects, unless taken incorrectly.
Another favorite of mine is Loratadine, (I think it's generic Claritin)--for allergies. One small pill is good for 24 hours and I haven't had any side effects (drowsiness, etc.) from it. I only take it as needed, though--not all through allergy season.
As for least favorite medicines, someone mentioned barium--I know; that stuff's gross.
Dude111 05-13-2026, 07:32 PM I detest all medications both OTC and prescription and will only take them if absolutely necessary.I feel the same way Chas......... Most of that big pharma stuff does not work at all and I dont think its meant to!
I prefer alternate meds like MMS or some other thing.........
I guess my favourite big pharma med is PENNISYLIN (I dunno if I spelled that right) I used to take that when I had earaches.... It did a good job on them......
I also like Motrin (I have 800MG tablets) and I like VIT C also.......
stevea 05-13-2026, 07:48 PM Penicillin is an old drug. It was used for everything back in the 1950s.
Dude111 05-14-2026, 02:12 AM Thank you for the right spelling buddy....
I guess they realised it worked TOO GOOD because its harder to get it now..... I suppose if ya bitched and moaned ya might be able to....
